Mission: The mission of Tennesseans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (TADP) is to honor life by abolishing the death penalty in Tennessee. We strive to accomplish this mission by educating Tennesseans about the problems with the death penalty system and empowering them to act for change.
Programs: TCASK is advocating for a moratorium (or “time-out”) on the setting of execution dates in Tennessee while a committee conducts a thorough study of the state’s administration of its death penalty system. The TCASK position is that capital punishment, regardless of one’s moral beliefs, is inefficient, ineffective, and inaccurate public policy. The moratorium program focuses on grassroots instruction centered around two calendar based events as organizing tools: Ø March 1st – International Death penalty Abolition Day…TCASK mobilizes constituents in a statewide, coordinated letter writing campaign in support of a moratorium and death penalty study. Ø National Weekend of Faith in Action on the Death Penalty (NWFA) – NWFA is a program of Amnesty International USA. Faith communities of all kinds are asked to devote some time during this weekend in October to an examination of the death penalty issue, using their own faith traditions and values as a starting point.
