In 2006, drawing upon personal experience with her own troubled 16-year-old son, Karen Lee founded the Elk River Treatment Program, a residential therapeutic program, and The Pinnacle Schools, an alternative school for grades 6 – 12 in Huntsville, AL. Through perseverance, love and the support of a dedicated, experienced team of professionals, hundreds of at-risk teens have regained their self-esteem and confidence. Too many families have few or no resources to help their child. Channeling the same passion that created Elk River and The Pinnacle Schools, Ms. Lee formed the Teens Path to Success Foundation, a non-profit 501(c) (3). The mission of the Teens Path to Success Foundation, 501(c)(3), is to provide assistance and support to troubled teens experiencing psychological, emotional, medical and family difficulties. At-risk teens typically experience one or more of the following: Anger, ADD/ADHD, Defiance, Depression, Anxiety, Mental Illness, or Substance Abuse. The Teens Path to Success Foundation has been a lifeline for teens who suffer from substance abuse, learning differences and mental health challenges. Assistance has included scholarships for alternative education, psychological care, residential treatment, medical treatment and medication counseling along with nutritional planning and guidance. Teens who were once struggling and felt they had no future are now educated and productive young adults.
Results: Testimonials of children helped by Teens Path to Success Foundation: Teens like 15 year old Hannah. Hannah’s family came to us in desperate need of help. Unable to afford the necessary treatment and medical care for 15 year old Hannah meant that this family was in crisis. She was angry, skipping and failing school, and was contemplating suicide. Teens Path to Success Foundation provided a scholarship for Hannah to receive the psychological and academic assistance that she needed. Having improved emotionally, physically and behaviorally she is now preparing for college with the goal of becoming an attorney. Without the scholarship, financial aid and other resources provided by the Foundation, Hannah might have become another suicide statistic. Jordan came to The Pinnacle Schools as an exceptionally bright student who worked extremely hard. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful in the public high school he attended. Often feeling like a square peg in a round hole, his future was in jeopardy. The Pinnacle Schools brightened his future. His family was struggling to pay for his education so Jordan was working part-time to supplement tuition fees. Jordan was faced with putting his high school graduation on hold when the generosity of a family through Teens Path to Success Foundation donated the remaining tuition fees. Jordan is now a proud member of our Armed Forces.
