Mission: Team mason foundation was created to facilitate and assist cancer patients and their families throughout their treatment and to educate the public about leukemia and other types of childhood cancers.
Programs: Miracle minute: team mason sponsored a miracle minute for a young man that is battling brain cancer. This young guy has always had a dream of snowboarding, but never been able to do so. At the largest high school dance competition in utah, team mason ran a miracle minute where 50 dancers ran through an audience of over 5000 people and collected an cash donations in buckets. This raised over 5000 in cash for him and his family. In addition, team mason teamed with an outdoor apparel company and a large ski resort to provide all the equipment (boots, bindings, board, pant, coat, gloves, helmet, etc. ) he would need. This young man was also provided with private lessons to accomplish his dream of snowboarding. His family was given lift tickets as well so they could enjoy this dream with him and be there to be a part of it. Team mason has a successful "team mason xmas" which includes gift bins for all children and their caregivers on the ics floor of pcmc. These are the large rubber bins, no small ones. All bins included egg mattresses, heated blankets, professional hair-care products (things family members need but that aren't accessible if they stay and sleep in the rooms), clothing, hygiene kits, toys, art kits, electronics, etc. Team mason is a big believer in making sure every room as access to blogs and support groups, etc. To make sure that parents and family members have access to and relationships with others who are battling and going through similar events. As a result, many rooms received ipad minis, kindle fires, etc. Part of the team mason xmas also includes a fully catered meal in the board room on the 3rd floor at pcmc- just outside the ics. This allows families, patients (if able), nurses, and docs to eat a home-cooked meal (not cafeteria or fast food) with their family together outside of a medical- room setting. It also allows all groups to mingle, meet, and support one another. Plates are also made and left for all nurses and doctors that come on for the following shift. Financial support: team mason provided a number of families cash donations for assistance with bills, xmas presents, travel to and from pcmc for out- of-state patients, etc. We are often contacted specifically in regards to single-parent families where a mother or father is raising children and also support a child battling cancer. Families often mortgage their lives to save their children, and team mason does what it can to provide comfort and happiness for those families that struggle to make ends meet during (what should be) one of the happiest times of the year.
