Rating: 4.9 stars   42 reviews 3,780

Address:

200 E. Wilson Bridge Rd. Worthington OH 43085 USA

Mission:

To provide innovative, high-quality professional development and support for preK-12 educators in mathematics, science, and technology.

Results:

TLC coordinates several professional development programs in mathematics and science. For the past six years, TLC has coordinated the statewide K-3 IMPACT program. IMPACT helps teachers develop instructional methods which provide all of their students with skills that will lead to future successes in STEM careers. K-3 IMPACT instruction is student-centered and develops the critical foundations in number sense, measurement and problem-solving. Many of the participating teachers are working in schools that serve a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students. Skills developed in this program lead to better intervention with these students so they have a solid mathematical understanding in the early grades. The intention of K-3 IMPACT is to lead to student success which is a shared goal of programs such as Closing the Achievement Gap. K-3 IMPACT was developed by a statewide group of mathematics leaders. It is managed by the Teaching & Learning Collaborative in partnership with Educational Service Centers and universities. To date, almost 400 different schools have participated in the first four years of IMPACT, represented by approximately 1,500 teachers. Eevaluation results have consistently demonstrated K-3 IMPACT's value as a strong well-received professional development experience for K-3 teachers. Results have shown that K-3 IMPACT participants have made statistically significant gains in mathematics content knowledge and improved instructional techniques.

I have had an amazing experience with the TLC group and their IMPACT program. I have teamed up with them to deliver high quality math professional development for elementary teachers. Every session is well planned and expertly produced. The availability of the team for guidance is unmatched. They are amazing!!!!

A practical approach to teaching. Every class I've taken with T & L has helped me be a better teacher. They focus on content and address the over arching goals that parallel our standards I've shared lessons with colleagues and they too find it invaluable.

Throughout the last 5 years I have attended several professional development opportunities offered by the Teaching and Learning Collaborative. All of them have provided beneficial and relevant experiences that have improved my understanding of current best practices in education. The staff is made up of passionate and dedicated educators who make these experiences very engaging and worthwhile. I utilize this valuable training, on a daily basis, in my role as a K-6 Instructional Coach.

I have taken workshops with the group. All that they provide is current, research-based PD. The facilitators are outstanding getting us to stretch our thinking and learning. Math PD is what I typically attend. There is very little PD in elementary ed that is centered around Common Core, so their IMPACT workshops, Pre-K Counts, K-5 Structures are amazing and timely!

I have worked with TLC since 2005. I have helped them with mathematics education by serving on advisory boards and rewrite committees. If you are looking for the most current information on mathematics and science education, this is the place to get your training! They use the most current research to create workshops. The focus is always on building teacher's content knowledge. Absolutely the best group to get your latest and greatest on Ohio's New Learning Standards!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

hire more people to do more workshops asap! :) More money is needed by this organization in order to make this happen. Please, donors, donate!

Will you volunteer or donate to this organization beyond what is required of advisors?

Personally, NFTI has been a catalyst in allowing me the opportunity to become a science facilitator. It is a role I never considered for myself but I have discovered I enjoy it very much.

The Teaching and Learning Collaborative has provided professional development to the teachers in my district for over three years now. Their focus on providing high quality professional development in mathematics and the sciences sets them apart from other resources that we have access to in our area. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and receptive to feedback. Every time one of our teachers attends their professional development they leave appreciative of the time they spent and motivated to apply the new learning in their classroom. The Teaching and Learning Collaborative have also provided a wonderful venue for collaboration between our district and others in the region. Our district will continue to use the Teaching and Learning Collaborative in a variety of capacities for many years to come!

The professional developments they run have good ideas, but the facilitators are very rude. They don't value your time (hours of work outside of PD to collect data for their company, not student data). The facilitators do not like when you question their thinking. If you question they will tell you "you have a fixed mindset" when really all you need is clarification. If you ask "how can I do this in my room?" Their response is "Well I could do it in my classroom so you're not trying". Seriously, most unprofessional teachers who belittle you and your knowledge.

The staff at TLC has been great! They are very supportive and have taught me how to be a great facilitator. They are always prompt in responding to questions and/or problems. I have not only enjoyed working with them, but have become a much better math facilitator as a result of all of their hard work!

A big shout out to all the people at TLC that work so hard to bring us some really incredible professional development. The material is cutting-edge and participated are eager to learn about it and make changes happen. TLC professional development has brought about a change in pedagogy and utilization of materials. My thinking will forever be changed and challenged as a result of this opportunity. Thank you.

I have worked with this organization for over 15 years and through two different directors. It has maintained high quality services and high quality people throughout the time I have known the organization. Though located in Columbus, OH, they continue to support our rural county on the far west edge of the state. They communicate well, share resources, and create outstanding professional development/training. I know the staff personally and would recommend their services to anyone.
