The teaching and learning collaborative is an amazing partnership for our school district. The knowledge and expertise they possess helps us to know we can trust every program they offer for our students and our teachers. We look forward to the math initiatives, science initiatives, stem initiatives, and computer science. I have worked with TLC to collaborate with other educators and to provide high quality professional development for teachers for six years. Many times I have heard our teachers say that this was some of the best PD they have ever received. Just this fall in talking about a new opportunity, one teacher leader who has had intensive PD through TLC said that anything they do is worth the time. Our teachers are willing to make an hour-long drive to participate in what they offer. It is never a "sit and get," but rather interactive, hands-on experiences that can be put to use immediately in classrooms to increase critical thinking skills and build conceptual understanding. We truly appreciate their work and it enhances education for our students.
The Teaching & Learning Collaborative does so much to help advance and support STEM programs while making them available to all. They have a very strong community outreach program and support. I have been a participant in several of their fundraising events and proud to be able to support them.

Teaching math to elementary school children can be tough, but I experienced a classroom full of students eager to learn and to share their knowledge with a visitor. Their teacher had been part of a cohort of educators gaining new tools through this organization that brought hands-on activities into the classroom and had the teachers down the hall begging to know how she had accomplished it! The results of this organization's efforts to use computational thinking strategies with elementary school children will expand and grow over their academic lives and into their careers!

I have been going to TLC workshops for several years. Every workshop has been engaging and full of authentic and practical support for all school staff. The amount of learning I have achieved during each workshop is more than I can ever ask for. Although I leave each session exhausted due to the high level of engagement and thinking, I am thrilled with the new strategies, lesson ideas, and coaching on how to pass this learning on to others. The Teaching and Learning Collaborative is a wonderful nonprofit that "walks the talk". Or in my case, run the talk. Not only do they help educators with professional development, but they give back to the community, as well. I am one of the beneficiaries of their charitable give-back. When I was unable to register for the Star Wars 10K race hosted by Disney World, TLC gave me the opportunity to participate in the foot race by purchasing registration through their organization. This made the race more meaningful to me because not only did I get to fulfill my passion for running, and donate to the Disney World charity, but I was able to give monetary assistance to an organization I respect so much, the Teaching and Learning Collaborative. It was a win-win-win for everyone involved. And not only from the standpoint of a runner. By supporting their honorable cause of education, TLC makes it a win-win-win for teachers, students, and their surrounding communities every day. Therefore I recommend the Teaching & Learning Collaborative as one of our country's greatest nonprofits and I look forward to partnering with them again for the 2018 race season.

Teaching and Learning Collaborative provides so many outstanding professional development opportunities for teachers all across Ohio. One of these opportunities is NFTI- using non-fiction text through inquiry in all Science content areas. This is a great PD that shifts the paradigm from telling students what they should know to allowing them to discover it (and more) through the 5E learning cycle. As a NFTI facilitator, I'm proud to share this paradigm shift with other educators. I see them implement it in the classroom where the impact is huge!

Math PD is what I typically attend. There is very little PD in elementary ed that is centered around Common Core, so their IMPACT workshops, Pre-K Counts, K-5 Structures are amazing and timely!

If you are looking for the most current information on mathematics and science education, this is the place to get your training! They use the most current research to create workshops. Personally, NFTI has been a catalyst in allowing me the opportunity to become a science facilitator. It is a role I never considered for myself but I have discovered I enjoy it very much.
The Teaching and Learning Collaborative has provided professional development to the teachers in my district for over three years now. Their focus on providing high quality professional development in mathematics and the sciences sets them apart from other resources that we have access to in our area. The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and receptive to feedback. Every time one of our teachers attends their professional development they leave appreciative of the time they spent and motivated to apply the new learning in their classroom. The Teaching and Learning Collaborative have also provided a wonderful venue for collaboration between our district and others in the region. Our district will continue to use the Teaching and Learning Collaborative in a variety of capacities for many years to come!
The professional developments they run have good ideas, but the facilitators are very rude. They don't value your time (hours of work outside of PD to collect data for their company, not student data). The facilitators do not like when you question their thinking. If you question they will tell you "you have a fixed mindset" when really all you need is clarification. If you ask "how can I do this in my room?" Their response is "Well I could do it in my classroom so you're not trying". Seriously, most unprofessional teachers who belittle you and your knowledge.

The staff at TLC has been great! They are very supportive and have taught me how to be a great facilitator. They are always prompt in responding to questions and/or problems. I have not only enjoyed working with them, but have become a much better math facilitator as a result of all of their hard work!

I have worked with this organization for over 15 years and through two different directors. It has maintained high quality services and high quality people throughout the time I have known the organization. Though located in Columbus, OH, they continue to support our rural county on the far west edge of the state. They communicate well, share resources, and create outstanding professional development/training. I know the staff personally and would recommend their services to anyone.

TLC has improved the math and science that is available to elementary students over the past several years. The short courses and educational materials that the staff have developed have given elementary teachers and administrators a better understand of math and science and some tools and skills to effectively teach math and science. The benefits received from the TLC programs have exceeded the expectations I had when we started TLC several years ago.
The Teaching & Learning Collaborative is an incredible organization. They understand what educators need and they provide lessons and ideas that can be used immediately to impact student achievement. As a former instructional coach I walked away from every professional development offered with a deeper understanding of the content and the ability to go back into the classrooms and support teachers with rolling out the common core and other best practices in mathematics. Now as a principal I am so excited to support my teachers in attending courses provided by TLC. With limited funding and teachers with jam packed schedules it is crucial to me that professional development be high impact to the teachers that attend, their colleagues and students. With TLC I know it is going to be worthwhile every time. That piece of mind is so valuable. Not only does TLC create and implement high quality professional learning opportunities they also offer them on evenings and weekends which allows for a wider range of educators to participate. The Teaching Learning Center helps in their work to provide districts, schools, and teachers with opportunity, information, and skills by providing support, and professional development for teachers throughout Ohio.
I have personally been involved with the Teaching Learning Center for the past four years. I have found the staff very well trained, personable, and willing to provide support for teacher in math and science. They have provided on site professional development for our math teachers (K-5). They are very well prepared, and very well received by our teachers. We appreciate their support and find them to be a valuable asset to our district.
Science Works (organized by TLC) was one of the most rewarding PDs I have taken in my entire career. It was hands-on, real teacher work that you could take right back to the classroom. I rave about this opportunity to everyone I meet (especially since good science related PD is hard to find), and have had many sign up to come back and confirm how fabulous it was!
We have given the early childhood workshop for the past several summers in Texarkana, Texas. The teachers love the materials and enjoy using them in their classrooms.
I was part of a science summer program, INQUIRE, offered through the Teaching and Learning Collaborative a couple of summers ago. This group has the most up-to-date teaching practices with more hands-on science ideas than a teacher could possibly use. The teachers walked away with field trip ideas for their school yard, knowledge about Ohio mussels and formative assessments with many writing connections. Kelli Shrewsberry, as director, is a full-fledged scientist that shares the love of teaching kids and teachers. A worthy nonprofit organization!

TLC offers courses utilizing professors, current teachers and the most up-to-date research to develop lessons. Every topic covered was fun and full of lessons ready to carry into classrooms the next day for busy elementary teachers. I participated as a facilitator with 30+ years in the classroom. I spent much time learning new information and being so excited at the lesson possibilities. I would not hesitate to take one of their workshops or courses and know the activities they sell to be of top quality.

This was my first of many classes that I will take through TLC. TLC gave me an indepth professional insight into math. Through the TLC professional development programs I am using more specific instruction which helps my students build themselves better number sense as well as problem solving skills.
I first became involved with TLC and their programming back in 2000. Their workshop offerings became an important component of my on-going professional development. TLC has helped me to stay current in the area of science. My use of formative assessments to help guide instruction and meet the needs of my students is due to classes offered by TLC. Their work with teachers focuses on on-going contact throughout the school year. This on-going contact enables teachers to meet, discuss challenges and develop solutions with their peers. Through their work with teachers, TLC is helping the students in Ohio gain knowledge and understanding in the areas of science and mathematics.
The TLC is an amazing organization. They consistently offer high quality professional development that is relevant and very rigorous. Every time I leave a professional development they offer I have lots of activities/games/ideas to take straight back to my classroom and school. The classes are typically spread out over time or offer online extensions. This has allowed me to collaborate with teachers outside of my school district and share successes and challenges. That open sourcing of information has allowed me to challenge myself as an educator and raise the level of instruction that my students have access to. While I love the rigor of the classes that is not what keeps me coming back. In teaching it is easy to feel helpless and isolated. The TLC has opened doors of collaboration within my building and beyond. Learning about teaching math is fun and I am often motivated to seek out more information online and in journals after leaving a class. The TLC is definitely getting it right! They understand that to lead high quality professional development that they must foster relationships, provide rigorous content, and offer information in a relevant way that is easily applied to the classroom.
I first became familiar with TLC in 2003, when I discovered they offered mathematics training for teachers of grades K-3. I quickly begged to take the training for IMPACT 1 so I could offer the primary teachers in Knox County this opportunity. What resulted from that training is no less than amazing!!! Improving Mathematics Practices and Classroom Teaching has been the highlight of my entire career in education! I witnessed teachers who formerly had not enjoyed teaching math ~ AND students who didn't like math ~ decide they LOVED math! I continue to offer IMPACT training to primary teachers under TLC's direction. Kudos to you, Teaching & Learning Collaborative for a WONDERFUL program!!!
I took my first TLC course 6 years ago as a classroom teacher, which completely changed the way I taught mathematics. Two years ago I became a mathematics coach and currently have the pleasure of teaching the same class that changed my teaching, IMPACT 1, 2 & 3. Working for the TLC has been amazing because I am inspired by teachers who take our courses. They are so eager to learn and love trying the new lessons and activities in their own classrooms. I have also learned so much from other teachers and their experiences. My hope would be for all K-4 teachers to take any course offered by the TLC and have it funded through district PD money or grants!
I have worked with TLC for years in a number of programs. They have taken a lead in the state - and I would say set an example nationally - in 2 particular areas.Their more than 15 year old Math Teacher Leader program was continued from a prior organizational structure. They were a leader in the nation with the concept of math teacher leader, and now, as the elementary mathematics specialist initiative has developed nationally, the TLC provides an example of a quality program to train and support teacher leaders. In the second area of their leadership, the TLC's IMPACT program attends to the needs of primary grades teachers teaching mathematics. This often overlooked group is well supported through IMPACT, with a sustained and comprehensive program. The quality of the TLC programs is always a hallmark of their contributions!
The TLC has been a resource of quality professional development and a network for districts in our work to provide quality math and science instruction. They are generous with their expertise and resources; their passion for students and the content is contagious. As a generalist guiding instruction in all areas in my district, including math and science, they have been an invaluable resource as we make insturctional decisions, seek professional development, and transition to new standards. TLC is true to their name: it is a collaborative organization that is always learning and employing the best practices of teaching to share and distribute the latest knowledge.
