Teaching Fellows Institute

I have been a public school educator for 25 years. This is my 10th year with Charlotte's Teaching Fellows Institute. Year after year TFI continues to offer me the very best professional development. I leave these sessions inspired and enthusiastic about being a teacher. I just love being put together in a room with teachers from across the city, from both public and independent schools. I love meeting fellow teachers, comparing notes and ideas, and forming new professional relationships. Barbara Caldwell and the Teaching Fellows Institute continues to make me feel valued and respected as an educator. Being selected to join TFI has been a highlight of my career.

The Teaching Fellows Institute was a fantastic way to enhance my teaching knowledge. It provided me with so many strategies to not only use academically, but also strategies to help build student relationships. I really enjoyed being a part of TFI.

At a time in history, when the value of educators is on the decline across our communities, TFI is a saving grace for its members. It provides wraparound support, professional development, a true networking environment and authentic appreciation for classroom teachers in the Charlotte Mecklenburg area. There’s no other organization like it!

I was honored to attend this years events and was blown away by their dedication to the Charlotte community. The speakers and the experience was truly uplifting and I left with so many strategies and tools to make me a better educator.

TFI has been instrumental in supporting my career in education. I have moved from the elementary classroom to administration to my current position as an adjunct college professor. TFI has supported me all the way!

I was chosen to be a part of the 2023 class. I am honored to have been chosen. The 3-day symposium was absolutely wonderful. All three days were full of motivating, informative, self-care professional development. Every day I left feeling inspired and loved! We were provided delicious food and snacks throughout the day. I cannot believe the level of care that was shown each day!! I am grateful that I am now part of such a wonderful organization!! I look forward to a long relationship!

I’ve just attended my first Summer Symposium and am blown away by my experience so far. The organization and communication of information is outstanding and the programming for this 3 day event has been amazing. Presenters are experts and also engaging presenters and the topics are immediately applicable to my teaching every day. I look forward to my ongoing connection with TFI and taking advantage of the numerous resources and networking opportunities.

I attended a seminar on working memory offered this week. The presenter was insightful and engaging. I learned so much that I can take back to my classroom and use with my fifth graders. The location was fabulous; the food was amazing. I was grateful to wrap up my summer with this professional development as it recharged my battery and rejuvenated my love for teaching. I can return back to the classroom ready to try new skills and push children's learning towards achieving success. Barbara really makes sure that our needs are heard and met as educators. She is a fantastic leader for TFI.

Every year at the beginning of August I feel excited for the upcoming year in large part due to the TFI professional development offered. I always gain cutting edge ideas and new thinking that I am able to implement into my upcoming school year. Thank you TFI for creating a place for teachers to grow and feel valued professionally.

TFI treats teachers as the professionals they are. The workshops are extremely well run, the content is relevant to teachers and educators and is applicable immediately in the classroom.

TFI provides a unique opportunity for teacher collaboration and superior professional development. The experiences are inspiring and equip me to continuously improve my teaching.

Teaching Fellows Institute gave me a wonderful professional development experience this summer. I learned so much, met some wonderful peers to network with, and felt valued. I am re-energized as an educator and can't wait to take what I learned back into the classroom.

I've been participating with the Teaching Fellows Institute for three years. I have had the opportunity to connect with teachers from across my district as well as with teachers from private and charter schools. The professional development that is provided to us is amazing and I have never left a session without things to take back to my classroom.

TFI has been a wonderful experience. I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity to learn and collaborate with other teachers. The professional development has been wonderful. The speakers have been engaging, and I have learned so much. I am excited to implement what I have learned in my classroom. Each speaker has done a wonderful job facilitating conversation. I loved hearing from other teachers and hearing about their experiences. The venue is lovely and the food and refreshments are as well. I have felt so loved, supported, and appreciated this week.

As a longtime public school educator I appreciate the invaluable support that TFI has provided over the years. The many professional growth opportunities that they have made available have enriched my practice and have equipped me to make lasting differences in the academic and personal growth of my students. The collegial relationships they have fostered between teachers in different settings (public and private, multiple content areas, K-12 grade levels) have enriched my personal and professional life in ways that are hard to quantify. Everything about this organization is a win!

The PD offered to me this week was certainly the best PD I've experienced in a long time. I'm amazed at how on target the subject matter was to my current needs in the classroom. The presenters were both highly engaging and left me wanting more. I not only walked away with information that I can take back to my classroom, but information I can apply to my personal life - rarely does that happen in PD. I feel so grateful for the opportunity to take part in TFI and look forward to future offerings.

This organization is really focused on growing and empowering teachers to bring their best selves to the classroom. I am so appreciative of TFI (especially during the challenging pandemic school year) and the four day symposium, at the beginning of the upcoming school, year has really helped me feel prepared as we enter school post pandemic. I could not do what I do as a teacher with them!

I truly appreciate being nominated for such an excellent program! This is a great way to collaborate with fellow educators in the area beyond my school and subject area. I'm excited to take my experience with me into my own classroom and continue to collaborate with other Fellows.

TFI provides excellent professional development training for local area teachers in Charlotte. Having the opportunity to work with outstanding educators outside of your own school from all different grade levels provides a unique and valuable experience. They go above and beyond to make educators feel supported and valued while honoring the desire to continuously learn and grow in our craft.

TFI is an amazing experience; it provides relevant professional development for teachers in the area. I came away with many great ideas I will implement in my classroom immediately.

TFI continues to offer me amazing opportunities for professional development that help me grow as an educator and support the students and families that I work with.

My time with TFI was a well-spent week, full of encouragement, laughter, learning, and community. Not only were we challenged as teachers, each of us were valued as individuals. I feel much more prepared for the year ahead and being a teacher in the future. TFI is doing incredible things for the teaching community in Charlotte and it has been an honor to be a part of it.

My experience is being accepted as a member of a group that is very supportive to teachers who feed us with information that helps us grow, build relationships, share information, being valued and appreciated for what we do as professonals. I am grateful to be a member of this community

As a new member of TFI, I attended the symposium on August 2-5, 2021. We learned a lot of meaningful information that I can take and implement immediately in my classroom! It's definitely been an amazing experience and I am so glad to be a part of this group.

It has been absolutely amazing experience. I have gained so much knowledge of techniques and strategies I need to incorporate in my class to have a more efficient and effective classroom. I have incorporated them in my class and have seen the difference in my students.

I became a Teaching Fellow in 2005. This nonprofit has been on the cutting edge in providing Fellows with opportunities to learn current trends in education via professional development, to fellowship with other fellows in-person and remotely, and to receive technology or other resources to support how students learn. I am interested in becoming more active as a Teaching Fellow by serving as a board member so I can expand my level of influence.

TFI has helped me to grow personally and professionally in my teaching career. My leadership skills and student engagement have increased through the cutting-edge Professional Development that TFI offers. I have met new people and collaborated with them through my TFI Alumni journey. TFI has been an amazing outlet and opportunity for me. TFI inspires me to renew my love for education and youth on an ongoing basis.

I joined TFI in 2018 and have been beyond pleased with my experiences thus far! TFI has allowed me to meet teachers across the Charlotte area, gain knowledge and ideas from other professionals, and take part in incredible professional development. TFI events are always well-organized, informative, and engaging. I am so grateful for the extra support I receive through this program!

TFI is committed to the cause of celebrating and equipping teachers for the cause of students. I am forever grateful for my connection with this amazing organization.

TFI surpasses what a great nonprofit organization should look like. I became a part of TFI (Teaching Fellows Institute) in 2009. They've been a phenomenal resource for my career in education. This nonprofit has provided a variety of opportunities for educators, from professional development to social activities in the community. TFI has provided venues where I've been able to form meaningful bonds with many fellow educators across the city. When I became extremely I'll from Lupus, TFI spearheaded an effort to support and encourage me with cards and meals. They also assisted monetarily towards my hospital/medical bills. In addition to that huge support, they became involved with raising money for our local Lupus organization by forming a team to Walk for Lupus! TFI has consistently given this same kind of motivation and encouragement to so many educators over the years. They truly deserve to be recognized for their work!

TFI 2020 Parent Talk -Raising Resilient Kids (and Adults!) with Dr. Linda Hoopes was excellent with specific suggestions and strategies for encouraging resiliency.

The Teaching Fellows Institute is one of the most unique and excellent non-profits that supports quality teaching and learning in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg region. It offers things that no other teaching program does and is truly unique in its field.

I have been involved with this organization for 15 delightful years and have enjoyed every unforgettable event I’ve attended. Teaching Fellows Institute continues to celebrate excellent teachers across the city by providing opportunities for academic, personal, emotional, and social growth. To say I love this group is an understatement!

Teaching Fellows Institute values teachers and their profession. The programming it provides seeks to increase the depth of teachers knowledge. Being part of TFI means networking with other individuals who are dedicated to their craft and seek to increase their potential to impact students.

I have had the pleasure of working with the Teaching Fellows Institute and executive director Barbara Caldwell for nearly three years, delivering in-person and online workshops for several cohorts of outstanding teachers in Mecklenburg County schools. Barbara Caldwell, TFI's Director does an outstanding job providing Fellows with exposure to cutting edge research and resources. The sessions we attend - face-face or virtual are always beneficial to me as a person and as an educator. I was able to convince a co-worker to apply to the Teaching Fellows Institute last year. We will be able to work together to help grow the organization within our school.

Barbara seems to always stay one step ahead of my school district in terms of providing PD offerings that are relevant to current topics in education that are happening "right now".

Teaching Fellows Institute has helped me to become a better teacher in a short time. I listened to a speaker discuss resiliency, a very pertinent topic at this time, and it helped me to better prepare myself for the school year. I was excited to be chosen to be apart of the Teaching Fellows Institute. Although the time was short and only two days, I still felt worthy and heard throughout the days. To me that's what matters and the workshop allows for that to be felt.

I am an educational consultant for early childhood education. I combine research from brain-based learning with child development knowns, with a focus on the 0-5-year-olds. For three years I have attended the summer seminars provided by Teaching Fellows Institute. The speakers have combined important research with pragmatic applications for the classroom. The Teaching Fellows Institute takes the time to honor teachers both in their profession, and as human beings.Yes, TFI engages and inspires fellows as professionals with symposia focused on the art and science of pedagogy. But the extra perks - like having programs and resources focused on mindfulness, stress reduction, healthy living and simply having a good time together with tickets to professional sports games - honors teachers as the people we are, first and foremost!

Teaching Fellows Institute is committed to the ongoing education of teachers; however, they are equally committed to making those teachers feel appreciated and valued. This is a phenomenal organization, and I am forever grateful to be a part of it.

I have been a Teaching Fellow since the Institute began in 2005. Over the years, I have been able to participate in research-based learning opportunities that provided me with instructional and digital strategies that I implemented with a high rate of success in my classroom.

The PD offerings are always relevant and they support components of the Teacher Evaluation rubric and New Teacher support systems. Other benefits include access to online resources and the opportunity to receive software from training settings that makes the learning experience more valuable when I am able to continue practicing a concept for mastery. Through TFI, I am acquiring 21st century skills that will help me extend learning beyond the classroom for the scholars I teach.

I was chosen to attend a 4 day seminar with this institute, it was an amazing experience for me as a teacher. There were many insightful thoughts that were shared among the visiting teachers. This is by far one of best professional developments that I have ever been a part of while in the teaching field. The need for more teachers to visit is necessary because the field need this breathe of fresh air to help them stand strong for their schools in Charlotte.

This experience is like none other! From the inner searching to the outer display of affection through food, massage, and even car detailing. This experience is informative and it's also a way for us to connect with other people within our discipline who we would have never met. I love the idea of bringing public and private schools together. I so appreciate all those who donate to this experience because it truly is life-changing!

I have had the honor of being invited to facilitate workshops for the Teaching Fellows Institute twice in recent years and have been impressed by the organization's dedication to providing high-quality professional learning opportunities for its members. The Executive Director, Barbara Caldwell is passionate about ensuring that learning opportunities provide actionable strategies and resources that are evidence-based, relevant to participants needs, and responsive to feedback from participants in real-time throughout the workshop. As someone who cares deeply about addressing equity issues in education, I have also appreciated the fearlessness of the organization and the participating teachers in facing into the discomfort of exploring and addressing these challenging topics.

This was an amazing week of collaboration and reflection. It was wonderful to be able to share ideas with passionate professionals from different grade levels and schools. The Professional Development that I have received through the Teaching Fellowship Institute has been PHENOMENAL! The topics have been relevant. The opportunities to collaborate with other seasoned teachers have been inspiring and thought provoking. The TFI staff, speakers, and White Manor staff went the extra mile to show how much they valued us as professionals. The speakers intentionally planned engaging presentations designed to propel us to the next level. This has been the BEST Professional Development that I have ever received in my 19 years in the field of education!

I am so thankful that the Teaching Fellows Institute exists. I was so encouraged this week as an educator. I love that I was able to connect with teachers from all across the city in both the public and private sector. Not only was I empowered as an educator through great training sessions but I have established friendships that will last way beyond this week.

Great experience with fellow teachers from multiple types of schools in various areas of Charlotte. Many times the PD was information I had heard before, although this wasn't the case for all. The experience would have been better if we had all the same experience or could have been separated by knowledge to avoid hearing information we already knew.

I am an orchestra director in Charlotte and was nominated by another music teacher at my school. I was so happy to meet new teachers from the Charlotte area; from charter, independent and public schools. The bonds and the information that was shared during the 4 days was really great and eye-opening. Opening my mind to growth mindset was really great and the ideas learned will help in my classroom in future years. I am so glad that I had this opportunity and am looking forward to relaying the information to my teacher colleagues at both of my schools this year!

This instute was one of the most positive activities I have experienced as a teacher. I felt genuinely welcomed and supported throughout the 4 days of the instute. I have learned a lot about how our brain learns and have met great teachers in the Charlotte area. If anyone has the oppurtunity to apply, they should do it!

TFI is an outstanding nonprofit organization that inspires talented teachers to extend their knowledge, keep abreast with the current research and best practices, develop their leadership skills, and connect with other amazing teachers in the community. What is amazing about TFI is that they truly treat teachers as professionals. This goes a long way with teachers!

The Teaching Fellows Institute provided a wonderfully stimulating opportunity to collaborate with other teachers committed to their profession. I left with things I will use immediately, with information that will inform the future, and with relationships that will be a resource for years to come.

Being a part of the TFI Class of 2017 has been a great experience. This week has pushed me to push myself personally and professionally to ensure that I'm bringing my best self to my students and that I'm bringing my best self to my career and colleagues. So humbled by the opportunity to learn from such dynamic speakers!

This nonprofit has helped rejuvenate my spirit. At the Institute, I felt valued and learned a great deal about research based on the brain. Now I can put a name and explain why teaching methods that I have used work! As a result, I have more confidence and my students will benefit! As an educator, I have attended many trainings. So what sets TFI apart? TFI feels like a community in which I will continually be challenged to grow as well as be supported in a fun environment. I will have a partner for life in my journey.

The Teaching Fellows Institute is wonderful. Through the presentations, group discussions, and collaboration with our speakers and educators from all across Charlotte, I am excited to bring the information I learned to my school to help others. The Teaching Fellows Institute helped me learn how to grow as a leader and how to get rid of unintended implications to get results. This organization helped me to help my students get over "road blocks" they set in their minds that cause self doubt. I will now be able to help my students learn more about their brains, the processes it takes and strategies to help them keep ideas long term to become life long learners.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas with educators all across Charlotte. Through this experience I have developed a network of resources of my colleges for which I will forever be thankful for.

I am a 2017 alum and I have been able to participate in a session led by a nationally known neuroscientist that has been recognized for her work in how neuroscience effects education! This was exciting and beyond useful in my career as a teacher and Dean of Students. I probably would have never been able to participate in such an event for free if I were not apart of the TFI. Also, the institute has made me feel valuable and proud to be apart of a profession that has not had much support lately. The institute has re-energized my love for education!

This week was a perfect transition back to the school year. The speakers were engaging, the information is easily applicable to the classroom, and the participants were collaborative and excited. I look forward to applying this new knowledge into my classroom.

Teaching Fellows Institute supports teachers' sense of themselves as professionals. Its top-notch professional develop programs encourage teachers to incorporate up-to-date research on how students learn best into classrooms across the city, and, in the process, gives educators a renewed sense of purpose and significance.

As a teacher, the work that Teaching Fellows Institute does is essential to supporting educators and the profession. The process to become a teaching fellow is rigorous and reflective, the opportunities afforded are focused and supportive and the network engages educators with each other and the community. TFI does amazing work that engages, supports and motivates teachers.

I enjoyed my time as a Fellow with TFI several years ago, as I had time and the opportunity to sit with other teachers of all different levels and experiences to work on ideas and think about approaches to teaching in different ways. I have benefited from several events and speakers in the years since I was a Fellow that have enhanced my teaching and my outlook as a teacher.

The Teaching Fellows Institute, of which I have been a part since the summer, is a wonderful, supportive organization for teachers which provides amazing professional development opportunities, lecture options and grants for classroom activities. Ms Caldwell's devotion to the organization, and Charlotte teachers, is tireless and highly commendable. I am thrilled to be a part of this organization!

I am a teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools who was selected as a 2016 fellow. I was very impressed with the program I attended in August 2016. Teaching Fellows Institute is unique in that it provides networking opportunities for teachers from public and private schools in my county. The professional development offerings are outstanding. This organization is a tremendous supporter of teachers.

Teaching Fellows has embraced the needs of local teachers, and it uses all of its resources to enrich our learning and nurture the humans inside. Through a variety of speaking opportunities and professional development experiences, it has been clear that classroom teachers are a major priority.

I attended the summer 2014 Teaching Fellows Institute, and it was so restorative and encouraging! The Charlotte area is so lucky to have this nonprofit!

My experience being a Teaching Fellow was nothing short of phenomenal. It was a great honor to be with so many teachers who had attained such a high level of excellence in their field. In addition, the networking opportunities afforded to me by The Teaching Fellows Institute have been a professional resource I have used continuously - by reaching out to fellow attendees for cutting edge curricular ideas or working collaboratively with them on projects.

As a Fellow I have been invited by the TFI to take workshops from worldwide experts in their field or private screenings of movies before they begin trending through the general teaching population. Being a Fellow has made me a better teacher because I’ve been given the opportunity to stay ahead of the curve on rising topics among educators and bring these best practices back to my peers and students for immediate implementation.

It has been a wonderful experience!

I spent a wonderful week learning at the TFI in the summer of 2013. I have continued to learn and grow through alumni events. This is amazing partnership between public and private educators in Charlotte.

Teaching Fellows Institute provides educators with high quality professional development. The variety of opportunities that TFI offers to its members to become better teachers is invaluable. I feel proud of being a part of this awesome community.

It is because of TFI that I am still in education and now leading a turn around school. I became a fellow 11 years ago, right at the time I had decided it would be my last year in education. The experience changed my path, and now I am leading adults and children. TFI is doing great things for our unsung Heroes, our educators.

TFI offers teachers across the Charlotte region a space to come together and learn from experts and each other, all while pampering them and giving them the respect that they deserve.

I was selected to attend the Teaching Fellows Institute several summers ago, and it was an amazing experience! Not only did I get to hear some amazing presentations and learn from the best, but I also enjoyed collaborating with other teachers from the city. It was a chance to be spoiled with excellent food, a beautiful atmosphere, and a very well designed program. I would recommend it to anyone!

TFI helps teachers have the most valuable kind of resources - access to other professionals and leading speakers. TFI treats teachers with the respect of a professional and increases teachers' awareness of important topics.

I was able to participate in some outstanding professional development opportunities through this group. We are lucky to have a group like this that truly appreciates teachers and supports as much as possible.

As a classroom teacher for 4 years and now an instructional technology coach and facilitator at the High School level , I can honestly say that TFI is doing tremendous work in Charlotte, NC. They are bringing together highly qualified and highly competent teachers from both the public school system and the private system and allowing these teachers to share best practices with one another and providing professional development for educators unlike any other that I have seen in the district. It is truly a unique program and one that could and should be replicated across the country. Educators need an organization like this to advocate on behalf of educators and an organization like this that provides the sort of professional development and support that is not available through a school or through a district. I am proud of my affiliation with TFI and am thankful to have the relationships I do with other educators in the program.

Teaching Fellows Institute was an amazing opportunity. I was able to network with teachers at other schools, not just public but also private schools. I am able to attend amazing professional developments that are not available through my county. I am also able to keep up with the networks that I made in TFI through social media.
