Mission: The mission of the teaching drum outdoor school is to provide unique holistic wilderness experiences and education through immersion programs and publishing educational materials. The teaching drum disseminates pre-agricultural skills and techniques such as fire-making, shelter-building, wild foods foraging, crafts, and animal tracking, often drawing a parallel between woodland natives across the globe and the various algonquin traditions of the immediate region. The teaching drum also incorporates conflict resolution and interpersonal communication skills, and facilitates group process between participants. The teaching drum seeks to help participants connect with nature and their own personal development through ancient skills and traditions.
