I have been involved with Teach One to Lead One from the beginning launch of the Whatcom County Chapter in 2017. To have positive adults come alongside and teach the Universal Leadership Principles is so important to me that I started with one of my own kids. There are many things kids are taught in school, but believing at young age that they are leaders and can make a difference is so important.
I have been a Mentor for the past four years and I have been fortunate to see firsthand the change in the students that participate in this program. I will never forget what one student said that I was able to mentor; he shared with me how he wanted to be the President one day and how he needed to start learning in 5th grade how to be a great leader. It is memories like these that keep me coming back as a Mentor!

Last year I was a mentor for students and it was one of the best experiences! This non-profit makes it so easy for you to walk alongside kids and teach them universal principals. The curriculum and lessons being taught are already laid out for you and the amount that the kids remembered and pick up is incredible. The curriculum includes real life stories, games for the kids to understand the concepts and short videos. Towards the end, you can tell how much of an impact it made on the kids. We taught on integrity, confidence, compassion, self-control, courage, enthusiasm, excellence, humility, respect, teamwork and honor. I would definitely recommend this nonprofit to anyone who has a heart for children and youth!

All children need a mentor: an interested mature adult. Teach One To Lead one is set up to make this happen in a safe and deliberate way. The program is set up to bring character building, leadership skills to all ages from Elementary School to High Schools. The program teach in a variety ways and allows mentors to further facilitate discussion showing care and interest in the youth's choice to achieve the goal of winning in life. I have participated as a mentor several times. It is an easy system to assist in. The basic work lessons are done for me, allowing me I get to be the adult mentor encouraging youth to make wise choices in their lives. These are skills that are not taught readily in our society today. The youth are attracted to the lesson and ready to share how they can be applied in their daily life. I have had kids tell me their choices they are making to be leaders, to apply these traits, to gain confidence and it inspires me to continue with this program. It is an incredible thing to hear someone tell me they are choosing to respect their teach, or to help with their siblings in teamwork. I love unique program and feel is very much filling in a gap in a youth's education.
