Great food. You feel like you’re at a Michelin Star restaurant with reasonable prices. The concept is fantastic and it’s the best food you can eat in the area.
Very nice place to have something special, check out some of the amazing food or become a helper. Great atmosphere.
Take Root cafe has been my family’s go to restaurant in Kirksville for the past two years. It’s a restaurant I can feel good about visiting and has a more relaxed vibe. I am very grateful to have this café that sources it’s ingredients locally to support the entire community. I love the revolving meal options to go with the seasons. Of course, the Cuban pork sandwich is one of our favorites bad branching out and trying new things keeps us coming back.
Didn't know what to expect when we walked in, but they knocked it out of the park! Fast courteous service and great tasting food to boot. Check this place out!
From the moment you push open the cool glass door you are greeted by smells you can almost taste. The staff is always so friendly and they take the time to make you feel as if you are part of the Take Root family.
The couches upstairs are perfect for study groups and friends that just want to visit.
As a vegetarian my favorite dish is the vegetable rice bowl, it is unique, delicious and different every time I order it.
This is a great resource to the community!
Take Root continues to be one of my favorite places in town because of the true community feel and vibe they cultivate, their commitment to service, and the ability to really engage in both great food and great company. They are always eager to help you learn of new dishes and foods that have rotated into their menu that may be unfamiliar, continually host community engagement and education seminars/classes, and all for a pay-what-you-can price that benefits the college student between rents and the less fortunate across town. Clothing drives, volunteering service, and just nice people all around. Whenever I visit Kirksville with others I always take them to Take Root.
This nonprofit organization is spectacular! I volunteered at Take Root for 9 months while I was finishing a university degree and I was always welcomed into the organization and appreciated. I helped with food prep, food running, and cafe cleanup as well as with community engagement. I met many great fellow volunteers, some of which are now close friends I wouldn't have met otherwise. This nonprofit is doing great things and they work each and every day to help make the lives within the community better. They serve AMAZING food, they're friendly, and SO humble. I don't have any photos of my time at the cafe, but I am so thankful I could be a part of this wonderful organization and give back to the community.
Take Root Cafe has been a joy to participate in. It's a true creation of the local community. We have come together to bring a beacon of hope and discovery to the area. It's such a beautiful space to share and learn and grow together. Oh, and the food is amazing and full of nutrient density to satisfy the body and help it remain strong and healthy. Thanks so much to everybody who's chipped in with all the different passions that abound!
I feel passionate enough to write a review (and I've already written one on Facebook) despite only eating there 3 or 4 times! Take Root is an incredible place with incredible food. Their philosophy is so wholesome, and a sense of community is truly felt when you go there. The food is the most delicious, real, and "homemade" tasting food I've ever had at a restaurant, and it's wonderful knowing that it's all locally sourced, too. The weekly activities they have (educational walks in the woods, yoga, documentary viewings) are also great, and I'm thoroughly impressed by all the owners' do to keep Take Root the fantastic place it is. I have recently moved, and Take Root is definitely at the top of the list of "things that I will miss". It is a great nonprofit that deserves all the attention and praise in the world!
This is by far the best thing to happen to the Northeast Missouri region, Kirksville in particular, in the 10 years I have lived up here. It's mission is phenomenal and the staff are some of the most knowledgeable and friendly people I have ever met. There is so much more to this place than just serving great food and helping alleviate hunger by offering all of their menu items on a pay what you can basis such as all the community events they hold there every month and the push towards living a self-sustainable life and relying on local food production. Simply amazing.
Take Root Café is a bright spot in our community! They shine in the areas of service, generosity, optimism, and community spirit. As a bonus, their food is fabulous and mostly comes from local providers! There is a team atmosphere among the staff and volunteers. The customers often get to know each other as they share meals, stories, and life. Take Root is a place to come together, have a great meal, and relax among friends. It's what a nonprofit should be.
Take Root has undoubtedly brightened my 2 years in this rural Missouri town. Their mission is simple: to provide delicious, local food to everyone- regardless of ability to pay. The menu lists "suggested donations" instead of true prices, so you pay what you can. If you're able to pay over the suggestion, the extra goes to provide someone else with a meal when they are short on funds. I normally can go a little above asking, but on the occasions when I'm short, the staff are still incredibly welcoming and friendly. There's no judgement, and there's always plenty of smiles! The meals are thoughtful and fresh- the falafels are AMAZING!! They have a community space and screening room available upstairs for local groups and meetings to use as well.
