Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Adult Education, Education
Mission: To empower lives through adult literacy. The Tacoma Area Literacy Council strives to improve the lives of people in our community by helping adults achieve their English literacy goals. We provide free and confidential one-on-one instruction to adults in reading, writing, speaking and comprehending English. TALC also promotes public awareness of adult literacy needs through out Pierce County
Results: The Tacoma Area Literacy Council has been tutoring adults since 1968 and has helped countless adults read, write and speak English better. The learners have passed tests, gotten better jobs, become citizens, helped their children in school and so much more.
Target demographics: Adults improve their English speaking, reading and writing literacy
Direct beneficiaries per year: 40 students (down due to Covid restrictions)
Geographic areas served: Pierce County, Washington
Programs: One-on-one tutoring, group classes and training for tutor volunteers.
