Mission: Recycle-A-Cycle, the flagship program of the Syosset Teen Council, engages teenagers in the restoration of used bicycles to be donated to disadvantaged children in the New York area and beyond.
Since the fall of 1997, more than 500 local teenagers and pre-teens have participated in collecting and "recycling" more than 600 two-wheelers.
Recycle-A-Cycle attracts all types of kids - those who seek community service opportunities for college, those who are "wounded" and thrive on the camaraderie of the group, and those who simply feel good about helping other children.
Major bike manufacturers have been extremely generous with donations of brand new parts. However, cash contributions to meet our insurance premiums, pay for miscellaneous supplies, and keep our volunteers in hot chocolate during the cold winter months are desperately needed.
The director of the program and all board members are volunteers. Presently, "Recycle-A-Cycle" operates out of a town park, but has no permanent home.
