Notorious in the Northern California Community for being a front - this organization has repeatedly put their staff and animals at risk in hopes of becoming famous and increasing donation levels. They had to move across the country to New York to escape their bad reputation.
What an honor, privilege and joy it is to be a volunteer at Sweet Farm! I currently work in animal care and helping with admin. projects but over the years I have also worked special events, and the farm cart. Nate, Anna and the entire staff have always been kind, friendly, patient, knowledgeable and helpful guides and coworkers. I have been a vegan and animal activist for many years, believing all animals are deserving of our respect, love and care. Working with the amazing animal ambassadors at Sweet Farm and knowing their stories, witnessing their healing, forgiveness, personalities and friendships has solidified my belief and understanding of their beautiful, complex, valuable lives. I am so grateful to be involved with Sweet Farm and to help spread the message of compassion and sustainability.
I am a current Sweet Farm volunteer as well as my 11 year old daughter. The joy I get seeing her learn about animals and care taking as well as working in the ag field is priceless. Nate, Anna, and Sandra are always smiling and never too busy to say hello and chat with me. I have learned so much from Kristina with the animals and Miranda with the agriculture this past year of volunteering. I cannot thank them enough!
I'd heard about Sweet Farm in 2016 and was excited to find a farm to volunteer at. As a teacher It wasn't until the summer of 2018 that my schedule finally allowed me to do so. I spent a lot of my childhood on a farm and I love to garden but want to learn more about organic gardening, using heirloom seeds and trying a wider variety of organic foods. I went to apply and was greeted by the kindest people; Sandra, Kristina, Miranda, Nate are all so helpful and dedicated to this beautiful animal sanctuary and organic farm. You immediately feel like family! I was given a tour, went to an orientation and started working in the garden once a week, with Miranda. She is so knowledgeable and I've already learned allot, plus I signed up for the Community Support Agriculture program where you pick your produce! Also incredible is you get recipes with the produce you pick each week which has been awesome because many of the items I've never prepared myself!! I also became a member. As a member I started attending the members days (third Saturday each month) and loved the cooking demos!!
Being at Sweet Farm is good for my soul. It fills me with happiness and I always go away with a feeling of comfort and goodness. I can't wait for my volunteering days!!!!
Started volunteering a few months ago at Sweet Farms. I was introduced to the animal side and was able to work with the animals. My favorite thing was being able to socialize with the pigs and be up close with them. I am looking forward to volunteering on the agricultural side next! A great place to visit and volunteer, especially if you need a break from the city life!
I started volunteering at SweetFarm about 2 months ago and I look forward to my time there every week. It is my zen place. It is where I get to be totally disconnected for a few hours and enjoy the open air. It is my slice of heaven. It is my time to show my love to animals and those who care and support them. If I didn't have this place and this time each week my life would not be as rich. I am so grateful to Anna and Nate for having the vision, dedication and time to put towards this beautiful place! The animals are happy, the Earth is happy, and I am happy. :)
I’ve been a volunteer since May 2018, and I couldn’t be happier with this organization. The staff are incredibly kind, and the volunteer work itself is remarkably rewarding; It’s a very welcoming environment.
I go once a week and primarily do animal care. Being able to see them is the highlight of my week. I love being able to help provide them with a clean, safe home and beds where they get to live out the rest of their natural lives. All the animals there have such an air of relaxation and genuine happiness to them, and it’s wonderful peace of mind to know that they have a chance to live and be free from just being another number or commodity.
It’s so heartwarming to see animals typically living in sad factory farm conditions given space and comfort and care. The chickens are my favorite, they are hilarious. They follow me when I’m in the yard and talk at me the whole time. One or two will even let you cuddle them. This is a lovely place for animals and volunteers.
I love animals and initially signed up to work with them at Sweet Farm, but I decided that I would love to challenge myself by working in the Ag field. I couldn’t have been more surprised at how much I thoroughly enjoy the peace and beauty of tending to the crops. What a great opportunity to learn about our food systems and how much work it takes to bring produce to my table. I’ve gained a greater appreciation for the process of farming. Miranda is awesome, and I love working with her.
Sweet Farm is the BEST! I love going to work on the farm and hang out with the pigs, the chickens, and all the other amazing animals. If you're lucky, Goldie or Susan (the chickens) may even sit in your lap!
Kristina and all the people who work at Sweet Farm are wonderful humans! So happy this organization exists.
Sweet Farm is a wonderful animal sanctuary and sustainable plant farm located outside of Half Moon Bay in NorCal. As a Farm Animal Care Assistant, I get to experience first hand what it takes to run a sanctuary. It requires a lot of passion, persistence, organizational talent, compassion and creative thinking to care for more than 100 animals on a small budget. Thanks to experienced stuff members like Kristina, Penny and Sandra as well as devoted volunteers the animals and the organic vegetable garden are thriving. From my own experience, I can say that volunteers are rewarded in so many ways for their hard work. I personally love to learn about humane and sustainable farming and to meet many like-minded people. If you can, please consider supporting this non-profit organization by donating or volunteering.
This is a beautiful sanctuary with plenty of room for the animals to roam. I help clean the animal stalls, which does not sound glamorous but it's nice to see how well cared for these animals are and the clean and healthy conditions they now live in. Kristina is an amazing staff member who trains the volunteers, always has a positive attitude and regularly expresses her appreciation for us. I highly recommend visiting, donating or volunteering here! It will undoubtedly lift your spirits. :)
My wife and I typically finish the work week by volunteering at Sweet Farm on Fridays. It's the best way to unwind, reconnecting with mother earth and helping the wonderful staff and volunteers. Everyone is doing this for the right reason, so it's a very pleasant experience. Learning a lot, getting some exercise, and enjoying the interactions with the diverse family of critters. These animals definitely have memory and it's nice to realize that they are becoming more comfortable with me as we develop trust. I spend most of my time at the farm doing whatever needs to be done...but just a few precious minutes hanging with the cows one week, the lama the next week, the chickens another...it's all just wonderful. I'd like to know what name the chickens have given me...I know they are talking.
My husband and I volunteer every Friday afternoon, working with their Farm Manager, Kristina. (who is the best mentor BTW) We consider it an honor and privilege to be helping out and working closely with these rescued farm animals. Every shift is new, exciting and wholly satisfying knowing we are giving back to our community. Over time we have gotten to know many of these animals and they all have their own personalities. We are definitely there to do a job but are always encouraged to take a break and hang with the animals. (which is a total treat). The entire staff at Sweet Farm is super friendly, easily approachable and flexible. We are learning so much about humane and sustainable farming and are making better food choices in our lives as a result. GREAT volunteer experience.
