Mission: At chime we use the language of music to inspire self-expression, self-growth, and deeper human connections. Our goal is to provide long-term access to the many gifts music offers in hopes that one day all chicagoans will value the language of music.
Programs: We serve nearly 3,000 children every year through our programs at chime and ten partner organizations, six of which are chicago public elementary schools. Approximately 20% of the children we serve have diverse learning abilities and over 50% of the children we serve are economically disadvantaged. We provide them with the gift of music through the following: music therapy - using music as a tool to help diverse learners reach their full potential. Music is used to work on social, emotional, cognitive, sensory and physical goals. Early childhood - programs begin at 6-months and continue through age 5 and are a great way to instill the joy and love of music in a child, as well learning the basic building blocks of music. Classroom-based for k-8 - our innovative curricula instill in students a strong musical foundation. Chime teaching artists empower students to seek their own unique voice through musical expression. Private lessons - by learning to play an instrument at chime, students acquire the fundamentals of instrumental technique and musicianship, discover the joy of playing music, both alone and in collaboration with others, develop their own expressive voice and gain an understanding of the most essential life skills applicable to all areas of life.
