Sustainable Conservation has a long history of high marks for our financial strength and ability to maximize donations. Our successful track record includes six consecutive years of top honors from Charity Navigator. Only 3% of nonprofits nationwide have achieved this standing.

Sustainable Conservation recently received a 3-star rating for its 2009 financials. The primary reason for the lower rating is that the organization had no growth in its revenues and expenses on an annualized basis between 2006 and 2009. The organization’s growth rates in the previous few years were due to multi-year foundation grants and an extraordinary one-time $1.5 million grant from the State of California, the vast majority of which was redirected to California dairies to implement water-quality projects on their farms.

While few foundations are awarding multi-year grants after the financial downturn, Sustainable Conservation continues to receive annual grants from the same foundations, as well as many individuals, for its high-impact work partnering with business to promote environmental solutions that make business sense.
