I started volunteering with Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) about 3 years ago, and have been nothing but shocked at the way in which the staff and volunteers endlessly pour themselves into their mission. Although most nonprofit organizations rely heavily on volunteers, SSD is especially dependent. It take a village to raise each puppy, which means that hundreds and hundreds of people are constantly at work to produce the life changing service animals they are so well known for. This work, however, does not feel like work for us volunteers because of the phenomenal support from SSD's staff. Their patience, compassion, and seemingly infinite energy makes it easy to get through each and every challenge and hurdle. This is because we know that our efforts are never wasted, never go unnoticed, and are never unappreciated.
I am not ashamed to say that I cry when reading and listening to testimonials provided by our partners. They tell beautiful stories about the ways in which their service animal has transformed their lifestyle. By assisting all kinds of people with all kinds of disabilities, these dogs truly are life changing, and often life saving as well. The great things they do reflect the incredible work put in by every single staff member and volunteer of Susquehanna Service Dogs and Keystone Service Systems, and volunteering for this organization is the single thing that I am proudest of.
