SOAR is a one-of-a-kind non-profit dedicated to helping older adults in need in Frederick County, MD gain access to items needed to live a healthier life. Best of all, there are very few, clear eligibility guidelines, and the assistance is provided quickly, without a lot of red tape or exceptions. Those in need of assistance paying for medications or food get gift cards, very easy to use. Through partnerships with area businesses, applicants have even received help with acquiring a used car for transportation to medical appointments. Small or a bit larger, SOAR helps as many as possible, with all support coming directly from the community and grant funding. I don't know of any other non-profit organization quite like SOAR, and am very pleased and proud to have them available in my community.

SOAR worked with The Rotary Club of Frederick over the past year to provide Food and More (grocery shopping and companionship) to about 30 local seniors who were facing food shortages and loneliness during the pandemic. When the Rotary funds ended, SOAR found a way to keep the program running and provide critical support to some of the most vulnerable citizens of our County.
