As a pediatric oncology nurse, I see first hand a child's world turned upside down. The Sunshine Kids Foundation turns these kids sadness into happiness. My patients and I have been very fortunate to take part in activities from day trips, weekend get aways and week long national adventures. These outings allow them to be themselves and forget about being bald, missing a limb, chemotherapy and just feeling sick. Each time they make friends experiencing the same or similar things they are going through and these friendships are priceless. I am so grateful for the Sunshine Kids and all they do for kids with cancer. Sunshine Kids allow kids to do what they're supposed to do, BE KIDS and have FUN! Every child that takes part in a Sunshine Kids event, is changed forever!
Review from Guidestar
Though a good program from what I can tell, The Sunshine Kids Foundation has made a huge investment in closing down programs with similar names. I had participated on a board for a program with a "similar" name and TSKF approached us with legal action to change our name. We tried to reason with them that it was our children from the program itself (a program to mainstream children with special needs) who came up with the name and we searched through our state's legal system to make sure the name was OK to use. However, after 12 years of running the program, they threatened to sue us and refused to bend on the name of the program. We, as well as 5 other programs that we know of in various states, and NONE having anything similar as far as programming was concerned, were bullied into dropping their names or closing their doors. Shame on you Sunshine Kids Foundation, for ruining the programs needed for these children to lead happier lives, all for the sake of making sure we weren't "confusing" people as to where to donate. What a sad world...
