Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Group Homes, Human Services

Mission: Sunshine's mission is to create community among people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends and staff. We do this by offering services that enable all of us to build relationships that enhance our lives through mutual caring and growth.

Programs: In 2014 sunshine inc. Residential and support services provided residential supports for 231 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This work, funded by the medicaid program, was enhanced by the generosity of sunshine communities' donors who contributed $750,000, and 977 volunteers who contributed 12,200 hours to all entities within sunshine communities. In 2014 we continued to see referrals of infants and children with complex medical conditions. We were able to offer alternatives for infants who had lived in hospitals since birth due to their complex medical conditions. -continued on schedule owe continued to work on helping individuals achieve personal goals, from joining a girlscout troop to visiting family in california. In conjunction with this focus on personal goals, we continued efforts to improve quality, auditing activities in the homes for the level of meaningful engagement. From these efforts, staff designed a program to teach and encourage meaningful engagement with individuals served. We began the planning process for building 5 community homes to accommodate 32 individuals who will move from our large facility. We selected a construction management and began the process of selecting architects to design the homes. Families were engaged in conversations about the opportunity to move into a community residence. Our staff began taking advantage of our competency based compensation program, applying to be evaluated for promotions to trainer and senior direct support professional levels. In 2014, 27% of our workforce had achieved the trainer or senior level.
