Mission: 1. To perform early detection and control of zoonotic diseases caused by parasites, vi-ruses, bacteria, and fungi on urban wildlife that could potentially put the public and their pets at high risk of outbreaks, and thus jeopardizing public health within the community. 2. To provide an outlet for taxpayers who have found orphaned or injured wildlife, so they see their efforts rewarded by our facilities providing veterinary care and wildlife rehabilitation. 3. To provide public education on potential abusive and cruel situations in order to put a stop to animal abuse, cruelty, and irresponsible behavior towards urban wildlife; to educate the public about such animals, habitat restoration, ecosystems, and poten-tial zoonotic diseases. 4. To rehab orphaned and injured wildlife found within urban limits, until fit for release back in the wild.

I have been impressed with Karolyn’s commitment to all wildlife. People in this area have very limited access for help with found sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife. Karolyn appreciates the finder’s concern and will accept the animal, even if it is a pigeon or rat. Many rehabbers will not take in these animals because they are not considered indigenous. The public does not understand why a distressed wild creature they have found and made the effort to get it help, is not accepted for rehabilitation. By accepting the animal, Karolyn is reinforcing the principle of caring for all wild creatures and bringing a new appreciation and commitment by the public to protect our wildlife. Karolyn has developed many contacts for out sourcing some of her patients to specialized species specific rehabbers. This increases their survival rates. Karolyn spent many hours training and developing a relationship with our local animal control shelters. Before Karolyn, wildlife that was picked up was euthanized. Now with the education that Karolyn has provided animal control, most wildlife is taken to rehabilitation and/or released. With Karolyn’s training, the animal control officers feel confident in handling wildlife and have a deeper connection with them. This relationship with animal control has been a huge success in increasing the survival rate of distressed wildlife. Karolyn is very competent with the needed treatment of many types of wildlife. She has a high rate of success and release of her patients. I hope that you will give high recognition to Karolyn’s Sunshine Haven Rehabilitation for her dedication to our wildlife.

A few years ago I took a bird that had become water logged from a recent storm to Sunshine Haven . I was impressed with the what I experienced. When I retired a year later I began volunteering by fostering baby animals. I have since become more and more involved with the care of injured animals. Dr. Karolyn's knowledge and expertise about the various animals and what care they need never ceases to amaze me. As a result Sunshine Haven is one of the best places an animal in need could go to.

I first heard about Sunshine Haven Wildlife Rehab about 4 years ago. My neighbor had some baby bunnies and their mother had been killed by a car. I found Sunshine Haven and delivered the bunnies to them for care. I was absolutely amazed at their operation. They not only take all species of wildlife, but they provide a tremendous service to the public by educating them on our indigenous wildlife. Without Sunshine Haven, Riverside and the surrounding cities would have no option available when they find injured or orphaned wildlife. I was so impressed with their operation that I began taking the necessary classes so I could volunteer my time to help this organization. It is a 24/7 operation and takes a tremendous amount of time and money to accomplish what they do, but it all seems worth it on release day! Pictured are the bunnies that I first brought into Sunshine Haven

Took an injured Red Shouldered hawk in today. What a wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring rescue. What this place does is beyond words and they deserve any help they can get. Without this amazing place, many wild creatures would not stand a chance.

Thank you so much Sunshine Haven Wildlife Rehab for being such kind souls, I don’t know what our injured wildlife would do with out all your help, love and compassion. It’s amazing to think of the hundreds and hundreds of animals you help save and release each and every year. I am so thankful to have such an amazing wildlife hospital here locally, right in my own county (Riverside). Thank you for being there for these animals, that have either been hurt, sick or abandoned as babies - these animals would have otherwise died without your help. Couldn’t ask for a better place then Sunshine Haven.

I have had many experiences with Sunshine Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation. I'm one of those people the neighbors call on when they find an abandoned baby or injured critter, and they trust me to make sure they get cared for. I, in turn, call on Sunshine Haven. One day a friend brought me an injured opossum who had obviously been nursing but no babies could be found. I took her to Karolyn at Sunshine Haven, and she after she cared for the injuries, she put her in a cage with very young joeys who had lost their mommy. We held our breath as we watched the mother check over the babies, then she took over cleaning and nursing them as if they were hers. After those were grown enough to be weaned, Karolyn let her act as surrogate mother to another group, then released her into the wild to live her own life.

I learn so much from Sunshine Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation. They share a lot of info about things I didn't know like what to do if you find a baby bird. I just moved onto wooded property with lots of wildlife and have already come across an injured bird.
