I have donated lots of things over the years , to suncoast humane society thrift store, I am able to sew, so I have donated outfits for smaller dogs , once my dog outgrew them ...
Since I. Have what I call a foodie ....he can’t have certain foods because my dog gets an upset stomach I have donated food , treats my dog won’t eat...to suncoast humane yes they do prefer unopened food unopened treats so I try to get them what they need. I have been a volunteer at Suncoast Humane Society for 7plus years. The staff is amazing and the animals are well cared for and loved. We are blessed to have a Vet on staff who is always caring for and helping the pets in any way that she can.
There are a number of devoted volunteers who make sure the animals get some extra love and exercise and help in any areas they are needed.
Until they find their forever home, the animals could not be in a better or more loving environment than Suncoast Humane Society.
I am blessed to be a small part of that family.

I have been a volunteer with Suncoast for almost 3 years helping with their offsite cats.
They take great pride in finding these animals forever homes. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to help this nonprofit. I cannot encourage people enough to #AdoptDontShop and look local for your next furry friend!

I started volunteering at Suncoast Humane Society as a dog walker several years ago and currently volunteer in the cattery. I am always amazed at the love and care the staff and volunteers have for the animals. Every animal is treated with love and respect. No animal is ever turned away regardless of health or behavioral issues and every effort is made to correct any issues if necessary and prepare the animal for a forever home. I adopted my wonderful dog from Suncoast. In spite of the love and care the animals receive, the facility is old and in need of funding to for a new building. The dog kennels for example are not air conditioned or heated which makes it uncomfortable for the dogs in the hot Florida sun, especially in the summer and the cold winter nights. Even with donations, thrift stores and continuous fund raisers, it will be a long time until the funds are raised for the new facility but every little donation brings us closer to our goal.

I have volunteered at Suncoast Humane Society for 3 or 4 years, first as a dog walker and now also as a Dog About Town volunteer. We take shelter dogs out to stores, restaurants and events to socialize the animals and to let people see them in a normal setting out in the community. I thought I was helping dogs, but instead, the dogs have shown me how great people are. Every employee and volunteer knows each dog, we all fall in love and we all cheer as they find a new home. During my dog outings, I hear stories from the community of the dogs and cats people have adopted and loved, and the happiness they have brought. Shelter animals are not abandoned. At Suncoast, they have a full staff of people to love and care for them until they find their way home. P.S. two dogs came home with me, too!

I began volunteering in the cattery as a cat cuddler in 2016. Even though I’m a retired school counselor who has had several careers, I am still learning new skills by having a responsible position as a volunteer with the feline population. I’ve made friends with coworkers. I enjoy my weekly job and look forward to my afternoon with the kitties. A year ago I finally fell in love with one of our older cats, and she joined our family. I believe so strongly in the mission of Suncoast Humane that my husband and I have become donors as well. I have boundless respect for the staff and professionals who are so dedicated to the animals. It’s a great place to work. I feel proud to be part of an organization that serves our community so well.

We moved to Port Charlotte in 2012 and within a year I began volunteering at one of the Humane Society Thrift Shops. Since then I have several different "hats" with this organization -- Critter Bank routes, event planning, pet food pantry, public relations -- and there are so many different areas, dog walking, cat cuddling, etc. that you can donate your time to. The staff at the main facility is so committed to the health and well-being of every animal that crosses through the front door. Their compassion and devotion shows in their smiles and helpfulness and "thank yous." I have met so many wonderful people, some who have become best friends, others where we just enjoy each others company while volunteering. In 2014 we adopted Gypsy, 95# mixed full of love with a heart of gold. I have owned pure breds most of my life and there's something about a rescue that melts your heart. They look at you with eyes that say with unconditional love -- "thank you" and "just please take care of me." I also am a volunteer with the Homeless Coalition and helped in their Food Pantry. We found there was a need to supply pet food for the clients' pets. So the Kibble Kafe was started and receives a large amount of their pet food from the Humane Society -- I do my best to see that there are "cookies and treats" along with pet food for all their pets because every pet needs cookies -- and again -- all this is thanks to the Humane Society. I cannot tell you the satisfaction I feel as I volunteer with this awesome group of workers and volunteers. They have become my family and I cannot imagine my life here without them. We have one goal in common-- the love of the animal.

I have been a volunteer at Suncoast for 3 years, doing the Welcome desk for a year and dog walker for two years. I appreciate high standards of care as I am a retired nurse. I have been impressed with the standards of care that Suncoast has for it's animals. As a dog walker, we are not just given a leash and told: go for it. We all are trained for our safety and the safety and positive learning experiences for the dogs. There are four levels of dog walkers, each level adding additional skills to handle the needs of our dogs. Our Animal Behaviorist comes out to the pens on a daily basis to assists with advice. Every person that volunteers or works at Suncoast LOVES those animals.
It is amazng how clean and pleasant smelling it is! We actually celebrate when our long term "residents" get adopted. We know how much we have all worked with these dogs to get them to the point where they are a wonderful addition to a new family. We have Pet Therapy training and obiedience training. After a dog is adopted, people can come back and get additional advice if issues arise during the adjustment from kennel to home. We have Fostering programs. for dogs requiring more medical attention, puppies, and recently added a program where long term dogs go home with volunteers and go out and walk in public areas and spend time in their home. We have a very active Dog About Town program where two dogs are taken by volunteers to venues so the public can see them. It is an amazing place!

I adopted a puppy from a rescue group in the Tampa area - who rescued a litter & parents from a high kill shelter in Miami.... shortly after getting settled in at her new home, Cali went into heat so we weren't able to get her spayed during that time. But once it was OK, I brought her to Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood and had a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly, explained everything well and made me feel at ease about everything! Thank you, Suncoast, to making a difference in my pup's life, my life and our experience! The Preventive Health Care Clinic is an amazing solution to local communities and to the homeless animals in SWFL.

I adopted Jasmine from Suncoast Humane Society two years ago. She will be 13 years young in July. I love her so much and could never possibly thank the staff and volunteers of Suncoast Humane Society enough for the joy Jasmine has brought into to my life.

OLIVER
I have become a new mother.
Quite a feat at eighty-two.
If you adopt from Suncoast Humane
You can become a new mom too.
A warning is in order.
I already have the best.
My six-year-old cat Oliver
Is a step above the rest.
He came to me clean and healthy
With a microchip in place,
All white fur on his belly
And spots of orange on his back and face.
The manners were already taught.
He is litterbox trained and neat.
Curious, as all cats are
His new home he was ready to greet.
I didn't realize there was a gap
In my life that need filling.
All the attention and love he gives
Add so much to life - it's thrilling.
He definitely reached my heart strings,
And plays them every day.
He has made my life complete
Unconditional love is life's brightest ray.
Suzanne Smith, 2018

Suncoast Humane is a wonderful organization and doing a wonderful job. Oliver could not have been any cleaner or well taken care of before the adoption. Thank you to all the caring people donating their time and energy.

I went to the volunteer orientation and was NOT impressed. For an hour and a half the lady went on about how great the organization is (we know that, that is why we are there to volunteer). Then she went around the room and we had to introduce ourselves... Why? It felt more like a job orientation. She spent very little time on explaining the volunteer programs or how it worked. The only thing available was in the stores. That should of been told to us before setting thru an hour and a half of useless information. Oh... And if you want to volunteer email me and I will try to find you something..... That is why we are here. Signed up for 1 Saturday in store and never heard from them. That was 2 months ago. Do not waste your time.

BEWARE!!!!! My husband and I went into the Suncoast Human Society to adopt a dog and give it a sweet and loving home that so many of these animals deserve. As we were walked around and shown the dogs by a volunteer we came across a cute little dog that kinda chose us. The volunteer asked us to wait their she would get him out for us the next thing we know a very angry and irate employee stormed up to us and aggressively screamed us out in front of the animals putting the animals in distress themselves they have been through enough as she ordered us into the lobby she proceeded to scream out the volunteer threaten to fire her. We left the facility immediately but my heart goes out to those poor unfortunate animals to have such a tyrant employed their those poor animals if she would scream and rant in front of them with out a care in the world no telling what really goes on at that facility. TONIGHT I PRAY FOR THOSE POOR ANIMALS THEIR.......

While on Christmas vacation from the Northeast in 2009, my daughters and I went to the Suncoast Humane Society for "just a visit". As they played with the cats I remained in the outer waiting area knowing we weren't in a position to adopt at the time, but I broke down and went into the cat room after the girls pleaded with me to "just come in and look". As I walked past a shoulder height cage, a tiny paw reached out to me and inside the cage was a grey tiger kitten. Despite being alone, he was happy and playful. It was love at first sight as he continued to reach his paw out to me. I knew instantly that I wanted to take him home but the logistics weren't favorable - we were in a "no pets" vacation rental house and we were flying back to Connecticut in one day. The staff at Suncoast were completely supportive and reassuring, informing us of what would be required to make the adoption happen and fly with a cat, so we put a 24-hour "hold" tag on the kitten. We spent a gorgeous last day - New Years Eve - on the beach where my daughters and I tried to get their dad to agree to the adoption. After several runs from the beach to the ocean where he was fishing (or trying to!) my daughter gave me the word: "Dad said he doesn't care, but he doesn't want anything to do with it". She took that as the all-clear but as an adult I read into it and it was less than favorable so we sat on the beach playing out what we'd have to do and the cost that would go along with it: the adoption/donation fee, an FAA approved carrier and an airline ticket for kitty. With less than an hour before the Humane Society closed for the holiday, we ran from the beach, drove too fast searching for a pet store along the way, overpaid for an official cat carrier, and ran into the SHS building in our wet, sandy clothes. We informed the volunteer we were there to pick up our "on-hold" kitten. She led us into the cat room where another couple was standing in front of "our" kitten'' cage, discussing whether or not they wanted to a adopt him. My heart sank. I looked at the time and thought maybe we were too close to the 24-hour hold deadline and they were going to let him go while they had a solid adoption standing there. Then the couple walked away as the woman describe a different, older cat that she preferred. The volunteer couldn't get our little tiger out of the cage fast enough for us. I was thrilled with the extensive care and adoption preparations by SHS - my kitten had an implanted ID chip, medical documentation, information on where and why he was put up for adoption ("eats too much" for an elderly woman), and we were provided with a bag of cat food and other goodies. It felt good to write a check for the adoption and add a little extra as a donation to this great organization. Our trip back north took a total of 11 hours due to car travel to the airport, an unexpected flight delay and an unexpected change in planes due to a mechanical problem. Our little kitten never made so much as a tiny "meow". He was so quiet I was concerned he had a problem so I took him into the restroom where he promptly looked up at me with a faint cry. "Tygrr" settled in nicely when we returned home. He slept alongside me in bed from the first night, with his body stretched out long as if he'd waited forever to be this comfortable. He's since traveled by car to vacation with me and again by plane, as we now live in Florida full-time. I believe a pet knows they've been "rescued" because their dedication and appreciation is endless, as Tygrr shows me every day. He's always a bright spot in my day because he's so amusing. It turns out that he's a domestic Bengal cat who "talks" ( a very clear "mom") and needs constant attention (and yes, he does eat a lot!). He never showed an ounce of fear which makes me believe the Suncoast Humane Society staff and volunteers provided him with a great deal of care and attention. I highly recommend this organization as the "go-to" place to adopt the new love of your life!

In fact my current dog, Logan is the best dog I have EVER had and I have many over my life. I've been adopting from Suncoast for many years. My current furbabies were adopted two years ago at the age of three months old. They have turned out to be the most beautiful, loving, and precious kitties anyone could ask for. I wish I could adopt them all.
A visit to Suncoast is a treat. The volunteers are always positive, eager to help, patient and knowledgeable. The facility is clean and the animals are well cared for. We adopted our cat Toby from Suncoast three years ago to keep our 19 year old kitty company as she was going deaf and blind. He is a real sweet boy and befriended Tyler immediately. We lost Tyler in November and Toby became very depressed, so in January we went back to Suncoast and found Maggie a 2+year old female. She also is sweet, and just loves people. Our friends and family can't believe how friendly these kitties are and they even play with our three young grandsons. The staff and volunteers are exceptionally caring and really socialize their adoptees. They truly care and really go out of their way to make sure you get the right fit. The staff has been wonderful with both of our adoptions and it is obvious they really care about the animals. The shelter is clean and well organized; a sure sign that everyone there loves animals . I just can't say enough good things about Suncoast. My husband and I have found two awesome buddies who delight and amaze us.

My husband and I lost our family Dog several years ago and decided that since we wanted to travel it was unfair to have another pet in our house. But both of us being dog lovers we had to find a way to have them in our lives.

In comes the Suncoast Humane Society. Through their organization we became foster parents to medically challenge dogs. We prefer to have the large breeds and have been very fortunate to have Scottie, Honey, Abby, Cheyenne and Cinnamon in our lives so far. The staff and other volunteers have been so very helpful to us and we can just imagine what the animals think.

Keep up the good work.

I'm so grateful for Suncoast Humane Society! I needed a dog in my life. My fuzzy baby had just gone to doggy heaven and I was so lost and miserable without her. I know I checked every shelter within a 200 mile radius of my home but couldn't find a dog that didn't have a $250 adoption fee (or more). I'm living on Social Security so I couldn't afford to adopt one. Then I found Suncoast...and Lacey (formerly Daisy). She's 5 months old, and the most adorable, lovey puppy I've ever met. I'd never had a Chihuahua before so the energy and puppy kisses were a bit of a surprise, but she's training me to appreciate them and we're doing just great. One of the best things is that her adoption fee was so low that I could actually afford her; and best of all, since I was a senior, it was even lower! Suncoast does a great job putting people and pets who really need each other together. I say a little thank you to them every morning when Lacey crawls out from under the covers to give me a great big doggy kiss on the cheek to let me know our day has started. Thanks, I needed that!

I adopted my best friend from you on April 3rd. 2014. His name was Cobi ( now Coco) Coco and I do about everything together. Dog park 5-6 days a week in North Port. After adopting Coco I had a full body bone scan on him just to see if he was alright. He is perfect, except the X-ray found that someone had shot him in the center of his side. The shot is still in him. The vet said it will be fine. Nothing needed to be done and it will never bother him as it is in a safe spot for him. It's just over a year now and he is a healthy, happy boy. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful friend. you got him straight and gave him a second chance and you gave me a second chance as I have bone cancer and lost my wife to cancer before adopting my boy Coco. I know money is right for a lot of families( I am one) but if you go to survey monkey and do surveys U get to choose the charity u want ( humane society included) and it directly donates .50 per survey to the Humane Society. We have adopted 2 cats from Suncoast Humane Society. One adult cat had a rough start in life, he had an eye infection in both eyes when he was brought to the shelter. With the proper medical care and lots of TLC he was ready for us to adopt him. The other kitty was a kitten when we adopted him. He was raised in a foster home, instead of the shelter to receive constant loving in a non stressful environment. We just love them both!!

in 2010 we lost our beloved white lab Rugged to cancer at the age of 9. we retired to Florida 7/2011. By September we were ready for another fur baby to bring home. We saw a black lab but he was taken. we walked twice around the dog area. we went outside with one but he just wanted to be outside and didn't bond with us. we were about to leave dejected when one of the volunteers stated there were more dogs downstairs that they had no room for upstairs. she thought there was one that would be good for us. Well, she is perfect and her name is Cheetah which we kept. she was 9 months then and skinny as a rail. She came right up to us and they said she had no voice. Well, she has one now. She was thought to be a rottie/shepard mix but is a coonhound mix. She is very loving and listens. loves to play, chase squirrels and rabbits in and around the yard. Suncoast was the best. They followed up to see how she was doing and invited us back for a visit. Suncoast was very clean and run by very caring and loving pet lovers. I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet.

I adopted a cat from Suncoast in Nov 2012. They are a very busy faciity. However that being said , everyone I came in contact with was caring about me as the adopting party as much as making sure that my cat was going to a good home. When you leave you have all the info you need to care for your new family member. They are all vaccinated and you have all the paperwork to prove that and when new shots are due for your pet. The facility is spotless, and all the animals are well cared for. I would adopt from there again and recommend this facility to anyone who wants to adopt a forever pet.

I am a retired vet's assistant, or today known as Vet- Tech. We moved here in 1992, and I volunteered at Suncoast for a time. I saw what went on behind the scenes, and it was all good. Very caring workers, went over and beyond expectations. I was impressed with the cleanliness of everything! Of course it is always sad to see homeless pets, but everyone took personal interest in the animals. Especially those that had been there the longest. Took playtime with animals outside, as time would permit. Also took turns in walking the dogs, often by trained volunteers. My husband and I adopted a 6 yr old dog from there, one yr ago. They were very thorough for the sake of the pet, to be sure it was going to a good forever home. I went alone, as my husband was I'll at the time, but they called him on the phone to be sure he was aware of what I was doing. All went well and we have a happy, spoiled new family member!

I went looking for young kittens and came home with two sister cats, 14 months old. I knew from the very beginning that one had been abused and was terrified of humans. Nine months later they are both so loving and adorable. They teach me more everyday. Plus not only did I find two wonderful loves but found an empathetic, caring, new friend in one of the employees. Since moving to FL 17 years ago, I've known several people who volunteer at the shelter, each with wonderful stories. Suncoast is a tremendous asset to this community. God bless each of the volunteers and employees.

We got a beautiful American Bulldog named Rosie from Suncoast in Englewood. She is all they said she was, just a great dog. We have had no problems with her and she fits right in with our family. Rosie still walks around with the toy she came home with. All of the people involved with us at Suncoast were all very professional and caring. Suncoast is a super organization. If in the future we are looking for an animal to adopt, we will surely come to Suncoast. It makes us really feel good to have given Rosie a "forever home."

Most of what I can say is a repetition of all the good things already written, so I'd like to say something about the pet adoption events Suncoast has hosted at the Pet Supermarket in Englewood. The staff and volunteers who handled the animals brought to the event were great. Dogs were walked,on leashes through the aisles of the store and surrounding area, and helped to behave like perfect ladies/gentlemen.
I witnessed a number of adoptions take place, with great attention given to the matches being made.

I've seen adoption events where a handful of animals were held in a ring and the handlers were bored and yawning and chatting to each other and the Suncoast events were nothing like that.

Very impressive!

SO kind and patient! It took us weeks to decide on a new member for our family of 5 and everyone was super helpful and very patient with us! We ultimately decided on a dog we weren't even considering due to the keen eyes and ears of a worker! She listened so intently to us that she knew who we'd be happiest with despite our parameters. She went completely out of the box for us and introduced us to Boston! Who by the way, is the BEST dog we have ever owned! A perfect addition to our home and lifestyle! He saved US!

Two of our original adoptions have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and are waiting for us. We miss them dearly. Suncoast is by far the best place to adopt any pet. It is kept clean, all the staff are very kind to both the people and the animals. This shelter is run the best of the many I have visited in my long lifetime.

My husband and I adopted our dog from the Suncoast Humane Society over 14 years ago. They did a great job throughout the adoption process and in making sure we were a good fit for our new adoptee. He was neutered and had all his medical care up to date the day we brought him home and they followed up to make sure we were all bonding. We have maintained close contact with this organization through fundraisers and the wonderful volunteers; they are such an asset to our small community. Our dear pooch is now old and grey and sadly has cancer. We know that soon he will let us know it is time for us to let him go to doggie heaven. I have adopted 2 of my former pets from Suncoast Humane society. Their facilities are clean and they care about putting this community's homeless and defenseless animals first. Their community outreach programs are second to none. They are everywhere spreading joy and public awareness of their goals. I have seen them at the local Harley-Davidson dealer with adoptable pets, offering low cost microchipping and nail clipping services.... I have seen them spreading joy at the local retirement communities... just seeing the smile of that lonely elderly person with no local family brings a tear to my eye every time. I love that they bring some of their animals to the local libraries for reading time with the kids. They consistently are letting the public know about the need for public support through FUN community and family time events and promotions. Their thrift stores are staffed with friendly management and never have a shortage of free volunteers ensuring that every penny above rent and utilities go back to the pets. I have always been an animal lover. I lost my dear Dyna in August of 2009. In December of the same year, my nephew came home with an abandoned and abused doggy. I had no money at the time to care for the animal but did not want the doggy going to "puppy jail." I took my little DJ to Suncoast and explained the situation, they gave her a check-up and explained that there are funds set aside for situations like mine. As it turns out, other than the fleas, broken tail, and missing whiskers, my baby was ok. They asked if I needed treats or dog food. I was stable enough financially to be able to afford the bare essentials, I just did not have enough funds to have her checked out. Since the compassion that they showed myself and my animal that day, I find myself frequenting any local event that they are at. I practically LIVE at the North Port thrift store and I always find myself throwing that extra buck or two that I have in their donation jar. Why???? Because they are always there! They never outright ask for money, but yet the public selflessly donates because of the manner in which every volunteer conducts themselves. As they say, "Do good and good will come to you." I truly believe that these are the words that this not profit organization lives by.

The staff do an outstanding job trying to match up human/animal forever bonds. I have had one of my six dogs for 14 years now. Suncoast Humane Society, Englewood, Florida is one of the last truely open door facilities. They do not restrict the animals that they take in. They do not only take the animals that can be adopted right away. They take "ALL" of the animals brought to them, unlike others in the area. They are one of the last hopes for the elderly or for those who have lost their jobs who want to keep their pets. They provide food for the local residents through their food pantry program which works with Meals on Wheels. They also sponsor low cost spay.neuter programs in the local community to help keep the pet population down. They are truely a great organization. Thanks for letting me repond.

One day in August, 2 years ago, I met a lady with a female teacup yorkie. She had just (a few hours previous) adopted her at Suncoast Humane Society, Inc. The lady also told me the brother to her female was still available at Suncoast, as their human mother had passed away. Since my cat had died a year prior I had been thinking of getting a little dog that could go to work with me and be my constant companion. I thought, WOW!!! I called my downstairs neighbor and best friend Dan asking him if he wanted to go to Suncoast Humane with me to look at a “little boy” yorkie. Well, off we went….. Got there and found out the little boy had just been adopted. Darn, guess it wasn‘t meant to be!!!! While we were there we did looked at all the other dogs but they were medium and large in size and I live in a condo. Anyway, on our way out I thought, “oh well, I’d just peek in the cat room”. Many cats were walking around, rubbing against our legs and meowing but I was drawn down to the end of the long wall of cages to a cage with the information envelope on it saying “LOVE”. I asked the person in attendance why this cat was off by it’s self. Love had tested positive for worms, been treated and just cleared for adoption. I asked if I could see her out of the cage, Dan and I sat on the bench and the attendant handed “Love”to me and love it was!!! “Love” sat on my lap, put her paws on my chest, stared into my eyes and touched me all the way to my heart. She purred so loudly while other cats climbed all around us, she never moved or took her eyes from mine for what seemed like 15 minutes, then calmly she got up, stepped over onto Dan’s lap and did the same thing, never attempting to get down, not paying any attention to the other cats, just starring into our eyes. Well, the rest is history…”Love”, is known as the upstairs/downstairs cat!!! Dan and I both fell in love with “Love”. She now spends most of the day downstairs with Dan while I’m at work (psss, don’t tell anyone but they take their afternoon nap together in the recliner) then after I get home from work, we eat dinner, then “Love” goes upstairs with me for the night. I’ve had many cats during my life but the greatest of these has been “Love”.

The staff members at Suncoast are amazing in their compassion and ability to find homes for animals in need. The Suncoast Humane Society does an outstanding job both in getting animals placed in new homes and public awareness of animal welfare. We are very proud to be members of such an effective and compassionate organization. The staff of Suncoast is outstanding. Also, they sponsor a great dog obedience course that I recommend to everyone.

Last October I adopted my cat Kitty-Wan Kenobi at Suncoast. The folks there were great, very friendly and clearly working hard to match each animal with the right home, not just hand them off to any random person. They helped me find the perfect cat!

A few years ago, our adopted dog of 15 years, Keisha had to be put to sleep. We loved Keisha like part of the family, but the tumour growing in her mouth was causing her so much pain, we had to put her out of her misery. We had such a void in our lives after that, our children were grown and gone, and now our dog too. We were not ready for another dog because Keisha was still too fresh in our memory and another dog could never replace her. We decided on adopting a cat, or more precisly, I talked my husband into adopting a cat. We went to the Suncoast Humane Society, and my husband took one look at this big fat lazy cat named Sammy, and said "this is the one"... I ran with it and we brought Sammy home that day. All of the people at Suncoast were so nice to us and we appreciated all of their advice. Sammy has been such a joy and an addition to our lives and although it was my idea to adopt a cat, she is on my husbands lap every evening. Since that time two years ago, we have now adopted a dog as well. Simba and Sammy get along like they were brothers. Our family is complete again. Thank you to Suncoast Humane Society!

Over the years, our family has always had strays of all sorts. At one point, we had three large dogs, all strays, each with their own sad story. After I put my last dog to sleep because of illness, my daughter convinced me to get a puppy. This little guy has been my sidekick and has come to work with me everyday since he was seven weeks old. One day I received a call from the Suncoast Humane Society that there was a dog there with my name on it. What would I do with two dogs again? We (Bailey and I) went over and there was this beautiful big, red, one and half year old Golden Retriever. He and Bailey immediately got along beautifully. So, much to the chagrin of my husband, Jake came home with me. It’s really hard to tell the personality of a dog when he’s at the Humane Society, but once home, it was obvious Jake had no training whatsoever. Mr. Jake is what I call my “exuberant” dog. Even though Bailey comes to work with me everyday, he is my husband’s dog. Today Jake is my 110 lb buddy and my shadow. I look forward to coming home everyday because I know I will see that big head peering out the door just waiting for me. He is such a joy to have around. The staff at Englewood Suncoast Humane Society is very caring, compassionate, loving and a wonderful group of individuals. How fortunate to have such an upstanding organization in our community.

I LOVE SUNCOAST HUMANE SOCIETY!! They are so compassionate and you can see their love of animals. If the don't have an answer for your question, they will find it out for you. I have been a friend of theirs for many years, having adopted several cats and dogs through out the years. Right now I have just adopted two kittens, sisters and I have three older cats which we adopted from them about ten years ago. We also have two dogs. Suncoast Humane Society keeps their kennels and cages clean. The people who work there plus their many volunteers work in a friendly, caring atmosphere. If anyone wants a pet, you're sure to find one that you'll love and will be your friend forever.

When I first contacted Animal Services, they furnished me with a trap to catch the stray cat in my neighborhood in North Port. After I caught the cat, I found out it was a feral cat and would be put down in 5 days ! I learned from a lady at the animal sanctuary in Englewood, that "Sarasota in Defense of Animals" has a program to rescue feral cats ! When I called a lady named Mary Ann , she explained how they take these feral cats, have them neutered and give them the shots, and then set them free ! Today, after setting the cat free in my neighborhood, I feed this beautiful cat everyday near our home and I feel I helped give this cat named Ebony, a new lease on life ! Marvin Myszka

My husband, mother and I went to Suncoast Humane to adopt a small dog. Unfortunately the only small dog was a yapper who had been returned to the shelter twice after adoption (how sad). Anyway, my husband spotted Bella, a Lab-American Bulldog mix. She has the Lab coloring (black) and big webbed paws, but the shorter legs and the adorable Bulldog face complete with the underbite, so when she looks at you her bottom teeth stick out. It's just too cute. She very seldom barks and she loves everyone and everything (dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and the list goes on.) Most of the animals she can't catch but living in FL, we are lucky enough to have dog parks and even a dog beach near us, so Bella gets out and socializes with everyone! She has turned out to be one of the best dogs we have ever owned and I am so happy to tell others that we adopted her instead of going to a puppy mill or worse. Suncoast Humane is a wonderful facility that took care of spaying, microchiping, shots and everything else we needed before bringing Bella home. I can't imaging my life without her and I encourage anyone looking for a dog, go to the shelters first. Most of the dogs are not there because they are mean or ill-behaved, but especially in today's economy they have been given up by owners who loved them, but simply could not care for them. As the T.V. ad says, these dogs are wise beyond their years and if they could talk would tell you stories of love and survival.

Not only was I a volunteer at the facility and on the road, I am also an adopter and have unfortunately also had the experience of "giving" up animals to the facility. In my experience, the staff and volunteers at SHS are all very caring individuals who are very concerned about helping not only the animal populations within their building, but the general population of pets by supporting low cost spay/neuter clinics as well as offering low cost vet services on-site. They also offer behavior training classes to all adopters and the general public, knowing that a person who spends time training their dog will enjoy and appreciate them more. I can also say that they are very compassionate and caring when dealing with a person who has to surrender and animal for any reason.

My beautiful samoyed dog and I are a pet therapy team representing the Suncoast Humane Society. Every where we go, we meet people who have adopted their beloved pets from Suncoast and have always had a wonderful experience. I have seen other humane organizations and none of them compare to ours. Our teams must be certified every two years, and the tests for both human and dog are quite difficult but understandably necessary. We visit hospital patients, go to libraries where the eager children read to the uncritical dogs and improve their love of and ability for reading. We go to nursing homes and assisted living complexes where they hig the dog and tell us wonderful stories of their own pets. We go to schools to work with "kids at risk" and the results are amazing. I would never represent a place that I didn't have the hightest regard for, and my pride for being a part of the Suncoast Humane Society knows know bounds. I probably get more joy from the pet visits than the people we visit! Thank God for a place like this one!

Suncoats is the best shelter I have ever been a client of in the past 60 years that I have adopted dogs. In the past 20 years I have adopted 3 nuetered dogs from Suncoast at seperate times. All have been healthy, happy and well behaved pets. Two are still with me. One passed away after many years. Suncoast is clean, very friendly, and allows you to spend time alone with a pet you are considering adopting. They also require that you bring any current pets in your home to Suncoast to meet your possible new adopted pet. The staff is knowledgble and friendly. I currently have three medium sized dogs, two Labradors and a Siberian Husky. One of the labs and the Husky are from Suncoast. The other lab from a breeder. All play well together and we keep them in the house as much as they wish or outside in a fenced 1/4 acre yard. I would recomend Suncoast to anyone who ask.

Being able to help out at Suncoast is a privilege. Spending time with the dogs is such a gift since, even the scared, newly-placed dogs seem to understand pretty quickly that they are in a safe place. The care there is delicious and it is heart-warming to watch animals get adopted, even after being there a long time. With very little money, the leaders of the organization have worked wonders.

Several years ago Hurricane Charlie ripped through the Suncoast area. Our kitty was a victim -- her original family lost their home and they were forced to take her to Suncoast. About three months later we appeared. We adopted each other. Her name? Shadow was a no brainer as she is always near us just like a precious shadow. Our former cat, Magic, has his very own engraved stone at Suncoast. We still miss him. Great organization - blessing families and pets alike.

When my children were younger they wanted and cried for a kitten, for a puppy for anything. You know how that goes they love them when they are little and fun, then they are forgotten. So we all decided to help the local shelter and we started to foster. We had the best summer ever, a batch of kittens every couple weeks and the puppies were a blast. The hard part of course was giving them back without keeping all of them, but then you are asked to take a stray Mother Cat and her tiny 2 day old babies and you are excited again. Now my kids are all grown up and have left the nest,so I have 2 extra rooms for my Kittens and Puppies!! Thank-you Suncoast for keeping me busy!!!

The Suncoast Humane Society is a wonderful organization that does fantastic things! They continue to find innovative ways to help pets and the people who love them by providing services such as the preventive health clinic (to offer low-cost spay and neuter services along with vaccination low cost) and the Pet Pantry Program (by partnering with Meals on Wheels and other organizations) to aid pet owners, so they will not be forced to surrender their animals or put their health at risk due to lack of, or poor nourishment.

In 2002, I was living alone, and decided that I wanted to open my home to a shelter animal. I went to Suncoast Humane Society and they showed me several animals that were in need of a loving home. Among them was a scruffy pup named "Muffin" who had the most beautiful brown eyes. I fell in love instantly. The volunteers at Suncoast made the adoption experience so wonderful and easy. I'm now married and have a young daughter... and when the time comes to open our home again, Suncoast will be the first, and I'm sure the ONLY, place that we will go to find our new family member!

Back when hurricane Katrina struck new orleans, the vets office i worked for wanted to help the animals. We placed an add in the north port paper asking people for donations of pet food and supplies. to our suprise the demand was overwhelming. We filled TWO LARGE Uhauls with stuff. To our dismay the company that agreed to get it to the animals in need backed out on us. but suncoast was there with open arms. we dropped off all of our supplies and they made sure to get it to all the animals in dire need.

I love this charity, and I donate ALL my items to their thrift store, all my extra supplies go to the shelter. They are a no-kill shelter that needs our help because so many people are irresponsible pet owners. The pets need all our help to find a great home! Suncoast does their part for the animals, and we need to do our part for Suncoast! Thanks Guys!

The management at Suncoast Humane is top-notch and very innovative in their approach to running the facility and fund-raising. I really appreciate how affordable the adoption fees and animal vaccinations are. It really helps potential adopters. It's a wonderful place to volunteer. I love being around others who care so much about animal welfare.

About 4 years ago, one of my kitties went unexpectedly over the rainbow bridge. A few months later, we had room in our home and hearts for another rescue kitty. We searched Suncoast's website and saw a beautiful medium haired, persian/siamese color kitten with blue eyes and plume tail! When we inquired about her, we were told she was being treated in a foster home for a respiratory illness and wouldn't be ready for adoption for a few days. When she became available, I traveled two hours to meet her at a volunteer's home. The Foster Mom, Kathy, brought her over and it was love at first site. Our new baby Pahio was welcomed into the family and has even been a "kitty of the month" in the Suncoast Annual calender. Suncoast does good things for the animals and all the people I've come in contact with there have been fantastic. They care about the animals!!!

I previously was a dog walker but had to change into a job a little easier. All the people at the shelter are very caring and loving toward all the animals in their care. I support any and all of their fundraising efforts. I recently adopted a dog last month and am very happy with my choice. He is a wonderful happy dog and loves us as much as we love him. He deserved a good home and Suncoast Humane Society were very helpful with the adoption
