Mission: The sun valley film festival's (svff) mission is to discover, encourage, and promote the work of filmmakers and artists and to bring their films to the citizens and visitors of idaho. In addition, svff draws attention to sun valley, idaho and to its long tradition of tourism among hollywood actors and icons.
Programs: Conducting sun valley film festival the festival is a four-day, public event bringing filmmakers and moviegoers together to promote artistic expression through filmmaking and to foster historical, environmental, social, and artistic education through film. The festival takes place in the cities of ketchum, sun valley, and hailey, idaho. The event draws an estimated 2,800 attendees and filmmakers to over sixty screenings, forums, panel disucssions, and ceremonies at local theater venues. Most of the screenings concluded with a question and answer session with the filmmakers regarding their processes and topics. Svff awards several awards to filmmakers during its festival. These include:"once in a million" for feature length film under 1m budget. "audience favorite"--favorite feature film selected by viewers. "vision award"--an award recognizing a producer's ability to keep a dramatic, feature length film in focus during the journey of the project. "gem state award"--jury prize for idaho filmmaker. Other awards ar e given for short films, young filmmakers, and mixed media films. The svff received film submissions through a competitive application process available to the general public. These films are screened by svff staff and volunteers who form its submission committee. Approximately sixty film are then selected by the committee to receive an invitiation for screening at the film festival. The submission period runs from january through february.
