Causes: Mental Health, Substance Abuse Treatment
Mission: The mission of the substance use and mental health leadership council of ri is to promote a collaborative, coordinated system of high quality, comprehensive community-based mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services.
Programs: In july 2013, the department of behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospitals (bhddh) submitted a medicaid state plan amendment which created the opiod treatment program health home. This program allows for the states five (5) opiod treatment providers to deliver health home services to medicaid patients who opt into the program. Health homes are service delivery systems designed to coordinate care to patients. Case managers assist patients with accessing primary healthcare and other social services. Health home teams include a physician, nurse, case manager and access to other support staff. The state plan amendment expired on june 30, 2015. Another state plan amendment (spa) which included the otp health home and expanded the provision of services under the structure of a center of excellence was sumbitted and subsequently approved. This spa is currently in place.
training for certification programs - under this program, sumhlc of ri, designs, develops and implements a curriculum that provides professional development to behavioral healthcare staff. The program also addresses the certification and licensing requirements, and responds to new and emerging issues in behavioral healthcare.
