Students Helping Honduras is an amazing non profit providing schools, education, and support for the children of Honduras. They provide a bilingual school serving 250 students in grades kindergarten to the seventh grade, a residential program to approximately 30 children who have no family resources and have built a 45 home complex for families that used to live on the shores of the nearby rivers. They are now also building their 52nd school serving the rural children in Honduras and have a goal of building 1000 schools that will provide a very positive opportunity for the children who otherwise will not have a public education.
SHH attracts about 700 American college students each year to run the programs and build the schools. SHH chapters on USA campuses have been the backbone of this astounding program. For almost 10 years college students from around the US have had cookie sales, car washes and walk a thons to support the SHH goals.
As a mature adult I am a unique contributor to SHH. My wife and I have been helping to build schools for the last three years and every time we go to help we come away even more gratified at the contributions of SHH to the Honduran youth.

Great organization... YOu can actually see your money being put to use in real time. Volunteer in Honduras and you get to the meet the very people you are helping. I've been to Honduras 3 times now with this organization and have fallen in love with all that it does. Shin, the founder, does not take make in terms of cmpensation--- enough to live on in Honduras. In addition, the organization primarily employs local Hondurans, giving them skills and resources to reach out of poverty.
