Our non-profit organization works with Street Academy interns. We are incredibly impressed with the school's commitment to each young person. The staff is accessible, passionate and really are making a difference in these young people's lives. In many cases, they are making all the difference on whether or not these youth complete high school and in many cases, their ability to go on and further their education.
My son attended the Street Academy, and I currently serve on the Board. This is an amazing institution which was created long before anyone thought of "small schools" or "charter schools" Yet it embraces the best part of both and some other good qualities in addition. The students feel like "family," even though some of them had had very negative experiences in other schools. I wrote an article about it once, "Miracle School: Child of the Civil Rights Movement."
