Mission: The activities of the corporation shall include the nonpartisan, community based mission of educating and informing the public and decision makers on the importance of valid nuclear triad and strategic weapons.
Programs: The strategic deterrent coalition was created in 2013. Incorporated in new mexico, its charter, by-laws and mission statement was adopted. Approval was received in 2014 as a 501(c)3 public charity. In 2014 a business plan was adopted that led to the planning and execution of a national symposium held on may 4-6, 2015 on the campus of the university of central missouri, warrensburg, mo. It featured speakers representing senior military and government leadership as well as academic experts from across the country. Sdc secured the financial support to continue and expand its work. Another major symposium was held in albuquerque, nm on june 21-22, 2016. The symposium featured attendees and speakers from all over the country. It had an international panel with representatives from the united kingdom, republic of korea, and the kingdom of denmark. Also, in 2016, sdc took over the administration of a research effort of icons, which was a loose collaboration of defense contractors and other interested parties. The work is supported by generous donations which enable industry research and legislative research to further the education and advocacy for the intercontinental ballistic missile part of the nuclear triad. In november 2016, a one day workshop was held in the washington, dc area which included members of the sdc board of directors and board of regents. They heard presentations from policy experts in academia as well as senior leadership. The bor and bod took on the task of reviewing and revising the sdc position paper which better articulates the position of sdc. They also engaged in the planning for the next symposium to be held in the dc area in may, 2017. Also, during the latter part of 2016, sdc partnered with the utah defense alliance and gained another effective board member from utah who was elected early in 2017. Sdc also partnered with the abilene military affairs group, the support group in abilene, tx supporting dyess afb and gained another valuable board member from texas who was elected early in 2017. After the success of past events, it was decided to have an annual symposium each spring and to have some other event engaging the board of directors and board of regents each year. The 2017 symposium was held in the dc area on may 8 and 9. It was a well attended event with speakers including senior military leadership, a us senator, academic experts and international experts. The organization continues to enjoy the reputation as a national resource of information and perspective about strategic deterrence and our national security. Subsequent events include a bod/bor workshop in dc in january which included presentations from a senior defense department official and two recognized academic experts on foreign policy. The 2018 annual symposium is planned for may 7 and 8, 2018 in shreveport, la.
the utah defense alliance and the strategic deterrent coalition co-sponsored a forum in ogden utah in march, 2017. It was a successful event that was well attended and featured some outstanding experts in strategic deterrence. Plans are to repeat that event every other year, so the next one is planned for 2019.
