Mission: SAAC grew out of the Bay Area Storytelling Festival, an annual multicultural weekend of storytelling produced entirely by volunteers. The success of the Festival required a formal organization behind it. However, there was a need to create a voice for the community of story listeners and storytellers of the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California. So rather than create an arts producing organization, a membership organization was born.
SAAC aims to be a regional voice for storytellers and story listeners, to remind the local and national community of the power and the joy of storytelling.
Programs: SAAC's projects include Storyline, a quarterly newsletter for our members of storytelling events and resources; a Web site which will become an online resource for the storytelling community; and the Bay Area Storytelling Festival. We have also served as an incubator for other storytelling projects such as the California Indian Storytelling Festival.
