As a consultant for non-profits for 20 years, I have rarely seen such a hard working team- from the incredibly dedicated staff, to the active role of the Members, it has been most rewarding to partner with Stop Cancer and to observe on a regular, up-close basis the extraordinary contributions they make to such a vital cause.

STOP CANCER is a wonderful organization that funds young investigators in their early stages of research. They take their mission of Funding Research, Finding Cures, seriously. Every dollar is accounted for, and every donor is able to track their donation. How many other organizations can you say that about? Ten stars for STOP CANCER!

I volunteer with many organizations (primarily cancer causes). Stop Cancer stands out for the quality of their management, staff, and volunteers. The paid staff is outstanding and the commitment of the Board members and volunteers is unparalleled in my experience. the staff is particularly diligent about controlling the costs for their fundraising events; their cost efficiency rating must be among the best you can find anywhere. It is a pleasure working alongside the staff and other volunteers. I feel very good about the cash donations I have made over the years. Finally I would like to say that I have met some very nice people who are members of Stop Cancer; they are exceptionally committed to the effort to stop this deadly disease by funding promising research efforts right her in Los Angeles.

What’s unique about this non-profit is that it’s tightly focused, with little overhead. Beneficiaries are known and results are observable/trackable. I have witnessed the gratitude of the grant recipients and understand from them, the importance of this private funding.

I have been aware of STOP CANCER for a number of years and have great admiration and respect for its unwavering dedication to its mission. And, most importantly, it does so in a most cost-efficient manner ensuring that maximum funding goes directly to early-stage research in the quest for a cure of cancer.

Of all my years being involved in various non-profit organizations I've never witnessed anything like Stop Cancer. Getting an opportunity to see the money go directly to work with world-class investigators and hear from them first-hand on the groundbreaking discoveries they are making is inspiring. Our current structure with how grants work through the NIH inhibits exploratory efforts so Stop Cancer fills an extraordinary gap in cancer research funding.

Stop Cancer is an incredibly humble organization raising research money for dynamic trend setting Doctors and Researchers at primarily USC, UCLA, and City of Hope. They have tirelessly raised millions of dollars which have been utilized as seed grants given to Researchers with Cutting Edge concepts and ideas to attempt to eradicate a multiple of different types of cancers.
The members are all very supportive, and the staff not only cares deeply about it's cause, but they are as dedicated a group as one could hope to find. Over the last 20 years i've been asked to be involved as a board member with many organizations and charities. I've always said "no time," "not interested," etc. This year when asked, i did not hesitate. "Thank you for the honor to serve on the board."

I am very impressed with Stop Cancer because you can actually see where your money goes and know what it does. This is unlike other worthwhile charitable organizations where the money simply goes intp a large fund and you never know specifically where it goes and what the results are. I am a supporter of Dr. Linda Malkas Who is performing fabulous research and obtaining excellent results at the City Of Hope.

I learned about this wonderful organization two years ago when my wife died of OAT small cell lung cancer within two weeks after diagnosis. There was no known satisfactory treatment or cure for it.
The beauty of Stop Cancer is that if you are able to make a research grant, it is YOU that can research and pick the team to do it from scientists at USC, UCLA and City of Hope. I made a grant, met the scientists (at City of Hope) and, believe it or not, they are actually on to a treatment that WILL SAVE LIVES, It was a long shot and it worked. Hope to go into clinical trials soon. They are living up to their motto of Funding Research and Finding Cures.

Very important cause and a wonderful group. Too often researchers can't get funding to try something new. The idea of SEED grants helps fix that. In less than two years we have seen successes. We are proud this year of making a Seed Grant ourselves.
The volunteers are wonderful as well. So compassionate and determined.

Its unique system of supporting research fellows early in their career is a stimulus for long term results. This is evident in many successful research programs supported in the early phases and comes to fruition in patient care. These long term results justifies the funding and support for those just starting their research experience.
Unique yes but very satisfying for achieving its goal of "STOP CANCER."

I cannot think of a better way to truly stop cancer than to support determined new investigators in their efforts to define and initiate promising independent research. I am an associate professor at USC where I have established research programs in which we have learned among other things that young males who use marijuana are disproportionately diagnosed with nonseminoma testis cancer (the most life-threatening subtype of this disease), women who have become mothers experience far lower risk of bladder cancer than those who never complete a pregnancy (the first substantive indicator of why women have far lower risk of this disease than men), and the identity of numerous inherited genetic variants that predispose to each of these cancers -- discovered in large measure through our major contributions to international consortia. I will always be grateful to STOPCANCER! for providing the initial pilot grant that allowed me to design and initiate these productive programs of research. Thank you!

The group also provide education and patient services. Small staff there most of the funds go for research.

This is a truly great charity. It has a very small administrative staff, so almost all of it's donations go directly to doctors and researchers working on ways to treat and defeat cancer. Unlike ACS, it does not provide all kinds of patient help, in addition to research, and it doesn't carry ACS's high administrative costs. It's gr

While there are many non profits that's help cancer patients achieve many goals for themselves or make one of their last wishes come true, all the fund received go directly to help find solutions cures for cancer. The organization ahs continuously grown every year and I am happy to be a part of the growth.

I became a donor/member of Stop Cancer about 20 years ago and have been so impressed with their mission statement. I don't believe there are many (if any) non profit organizations where you can see results of your contributions.

STOP cancer funds beginning investigators by giving them seed money for experiments. That is crucial, because without "preliminary data" they cannot get grants from the National Institutes of Health. Keep up the good work, STOP Cancer! Two thumbs up!

STOP Cancer is a relatively small foundation for the impact it makes on clinical and translational research in LA area. It is driven by very devoted group of volunteers and donors who are critical for achieving its goals while minimizing the operating cost. They succeed, which is unique, in bringing together doctors with families, survivors and volunteers. And these occasions can be memorable events with many touching moments. As a result we are starting to see a growing and very motivated community of cancer research oriented professionals, activists and people directly touched by the disease. Let's keep it going!

I became involved as a supporter of Stop cancer in the beginning years, the 1980s. I remember one of the Co Founders, Armand Hammer, stating emphatically that it was his "dream to find a cure for cancer in [his] lifetime." This was very bold as he was in his late 80s at the time. Tremendous progress has been made: Stop Cancer seed grants and career development awards have been bestowed upon cutting edge investigators who are finding inroads to cures, immunology, and prevention. Funds raised by Stop Cancer are granted to scientists at, and matched by, the 3 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Los Angeles. Many such researchers have shown great promise in their discoveries and have used their awards as a stepping stone to attract grants from the National Institute of Health and the National Cancer Institute.

I became very interested in Stop Cancer when my father was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer. I questions his specialists about the treatments he would be receiving, how they would affect the tumor and what we could expect in terms of eliminating cancer . At the time my parents were already very involved in Stop Cancer and I became more interested in the group and where their funds were going. I began to attend their research awards evenings honoring the researchers they were giving grants. They were exciting to listen to and they were incredibly insightful. I felt a feeling of hope to find a cure and knew that Stop Cancer would be a huge player in helping them reach that goal. Stop Cancer works with the top institutions and their researchers. I believe highly in the work they do! I am excited about the future of the group and the new generations of members that have become a part of the cure.

The late humanitarian/philanthropist Dr. Armand Hammer had a passion to STOP CANCER and founded the organization 25 years ago in partnership with Sherry Lansing, devoted to cancer research. With a mission to fund young cancer investigators ay UCLA, USC and City of Hope, STOP CANCER has ever moved onward and forward--- and, as of this date 189 Research Awards have been granted with a value of over $58 million. Members and sponsors know exactly where their donations go-- they even meet the research doctor recipients. Many of the STOP CANCER Research Awardees have developed cancer drugs and procedures which are presently in international use, such as Herceptin and Gleevec, saving or prolonging many lives. Since STOP CANCER Research Awards are donated early in the career of the young doctors, they, in turn, are grateful to the organization for having permitted them to remain in the field of research.

As a surgeon, I am proud to be a member of STOP CANCER. With the assistance of the STOP CANCER administration, I was able to set up a fund in memory of my patient's husband who succumbed to a malignant brain tumor. Stop Cancer is a small, but very focused organization. It's very efficiently run, so I know that my donations and my time are well spent, with little overhead bloat like so many big organizations. The group is laser-focused on finding and funding research doctors who are local, which is great. I feel like i'm not only helping to fund cancer research, but it's within my own community. And I get to see and hear from the doctors directly. It's not some disconnected, distant situation. It's here, in my town, before my eyes. As will hopefully be a cure.
