I did a mock board interview with the team, Vincent Turner and Julia Chambers. They asked hard questions that really made me think. After the interview, they gave me honest feedback that helped me secure a management position.
I recently left a five-star review for Still Serving Veterans, and I wanted to take a moment to share the story behind it. After unexpectedly losing my contract, I found myself in a tough spot—it had been several years since I last updated my résumé, and I knew I needed help to get back in the game. I turned to Still Serving Veterans because they had helped me in the past, and once again, they came through in a big way.
A special shout out goes to Sam, who worked closely with me to rebuild my résumé in a format that really highlighted my strengths and matched the kind of roles I was going after. Thanks to his guidance and expertise, I landed a wonderful new position—and I truly give all the credit to Sam and the team at Still Serving Veterans for helping make that happen. Their support made all the difference, and I’m incredibly grateful.
Still Serving Veterans is an incredible non profit. I have received excellent assitance in filing my VA claims. I received a total of a 70% increase in my disability benefits. I also received assitance from Veteran Transition Support in my transition to my civilian career. My post military life has been improved because of the caring and knowledgeable people at SSV!
I learned about Still Serving Veterans through a job fair I attended. I wanted help with my resume and to brush up on my interviewing skills. A representative from the organization reached out to me soon after the event. I described my needs and was promptly put in touch with a Veterans Career and Transition Counselor, Vincent Turner, who also responded quickly. I truly appreciate the professionalism and expertise that I was provided. I am grateful for the assistance that I've received and highly recommend the organization to transitioning service members or any veterans looking for support.
I would like to thank Still Serving Veterans for their work with veterans-especially David Tallent. Mr. Tallent was instrumental in assisting me with correcting my resume and applying for positions. As a direct result of his mentorship, I retired from the Army into a good solid position. His knowledge, professionalism and direct guidance is beyond reproach. I would recommend Still Serving Veterans to any veteran looking for employment assistance. Thank you!
Respectfully,
Don Saxon
I have had a great experience with SSV. Christian Suding has been a great person to have during my transition out of the military and his guidance and advice is very much appreciated.
There is no doubt in my mind that the invaluable assistance provided by Still Serving Veterans resulted in a quick decision and a favorable outcome for my VA disability claims.
In July 2023 I decided I would be able to apply for VA disability benefits by myself. I went to the VA website and filed a disability claim which included lower back pain. With my filing I included a copy of the military medical treatment record for injury following a fall on the obstacle course and a copy of the permanent profile an Army doctor had written for my lower back injury. In March 2024 I received a letter from the VA stating their decision that my back issues were not service related.
Realizing that I needed help in filing an appeal to the VA decision, I contacted Still Serving Veterans and discussed my issue with a screener who scheduled me for an appointment with a counselor.
After listening to my story, my assigned Veteran Support Services Counselor (VSSC) immediately submitted an “intent to file” form with the VA regarding my challenge of the VA decision regarding my back issues. The VSSC then walked me through the process to challenge the VA decision, provided me with examples of supporting evidence, made suggestions on how to frame my narrative to accompany the challenge, and scheduled a follow-on appointment to review my revised supporting documentation.
Early in 2024, subsequent to filing my VA disability claim, I was diagnosed with restricted lung function. As I was already on the Burn Pit Registry based on service in Afghanistan, I asked my VSSC how to submit an additional disability claim. The VSSC informed me that it would be no problem to add the subsequent claim to my existing claim.
In my follow-up appointment my VSSC reviewed the supporting documentation I had gathered, uploaded the material to my VA file, and submitted the packet for VA review. Approximately one month after the submission a VA scheduled medical re-evaluation was performed. About six weeks after the medical exam I received a letter from the VA informing me that my original claim for the back injury, as well as the subsequent claim for restricted lung function, had been determined to be service related.
The initial disability claim that I filed took approximately 8 months for me to receive a decision. Working through Still Serving Veterans, filing a request for a review of the prior VA decision plus a new claim resulted in my receiving a favorable decision in less than 3 months.
Thankful to be heard and then have the representatives support and competence to move forward. Thankful for a specific point of contact while I wait for resolution.
I had been applying to jobs on USAJOBS.GOV with zero success until someone recommended "Still Serving Veterans" a few months ago. I was assigned a counselor (Christian Suding) in less than 24 hours to work with me on my resume and interviewing skills. Guy, I am happy to say I am getting the attention I have always wanted and very soon I will be landing my dream job. Surprisingly, your counselor will check up on you until you get a job. I recommend them to any veteran who is struggling to get a job.
My company has partnered with SSV going on 4 years supporting multiple events put on to assist veterans. I am a veteran myself and have used their services to assist with my personal situations. Their team is always helpful and seem to really care for the veterans in our community. I have and will continue to send veterans their way if in need of assistance. They are a great group of people, and I really enjoy assisting them in their cause.
They helped me file a disability claim with the VA, and also helped me write a resume and CV, as well as teaching me some tips and tricks to resume writing and editing for individual job postings.
SSV provided exceptional support in my job search, resume writing, and interview techniques. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dave Tallent for dedicating time to guide me through the steps necessary to enhance my chances of securing a promising job. His insights were invaluable, and I am truly thankful for the existence of this organization.
I had a great experience with still serving veterans staff Ms. Jamie Jones-Eatman has exceptional customer service and is punctual with her response times. Ms. McCray is very thorough and has a wealth of knowledge. She is professional and helpful with her resume expertise and ensuring the right assistance in employment readiness.
Had a sit in during my skillbridge meeting with Dave. Every question I had was mostly answered From resume assistance, services offered, his personal experience with searching for jobs (entry level up to senior), mock interviews, and how to get the most out of AI Chat Gpt. I'll be transitioning in a few months and this is a great tool with experienced people who can help us have a little less fear when we leave the service. Highly recommend.
I started my journey looking for a job following five years of active duty service and hadn't touched my resume in years! I was overwhelmed. I didn't know where or how to begin. I reached out to Still Serving Veterans where I was provided one-on-one assistance with highly skilled staff. Kate McCray immediately put me at ease and was patient with the cumbersome process of getting me on track. I had multiple deployments with a vast variety of roles and experience. I was very fortunate to be paired up with her. Kate's skills are second to none. Her service is friendly and expedient. Not only was I happy with the service and professionalism but I received a high quality, outstanding resume. I am very happy to have found someone who can highlight relevant skills to enhance my chances of getting the position I'm aiming for. I have solicited Kate's expertise countless times from resumes, cover letters, and any other obstacles I have encountered navigating the job search. She has a thorough follow-up and continues to help me today. She is fantastic!! Thank you Kate and Still Serving Veterans for the genuine care and guidance!!
I left the Army on May 23rd, 2024. I began my transition planning and early contact with SSV on May 2nd, 2023 and had my initial meeting with my counselor, Kate McCray May 22nd, 2023. Over the past year I have received excellent feedback, guidance, information, and resources from Kate. She got to know me as a person and what my goals, priorities, and needs were post-Army. On 24 June, 2024 I started my new career. I’m extremely happy with the position because it met my priorities and allowed my family to stay local and not have to move again. I highly recommend SSV to any service member transitioning and to start early!
Everyone here at this office helps you I personally worked with MO and she stays on top of things. She checks in on me frequently to make sure I’m fine and do not need any assistance. I want to personally thank the whole team for being so supportive on everyone’s transition.

After 5 years of attempting to get my claim processed through the Veterans department I was at the point of being ready to give up. I was introduced to Ms. Trudy Lewis about a year and a half back and she started looking at what I had. previously submitted. She agreed to work with me to get everything resubmitted.
M. Lewis was very thorough in all aspect of our interactions. She asked the appropriate questions and followed up with my previous submitted information to determine where it went wrong.
There were numerous follow up phone calls, text messages and emails ensuring required information was being submitted in a timely manner for the appropriate review.
My case was adjudicated within one year after I started working with Ms. Lewis but that was not all. She noticed that I had remarried but I did not have my wife documented as my spouse, she provided me with the appropriate documentation that I needed to complete and submit to resolve this issue.
After all this she noticed that they only have gave me credit for the items I was claiming secondary to my original claim from 2003. They had not even started the review of the new items i had put in new claims for and she discussed those items with me and the process that will take place to address them.
Ms. Lewis has been a dedicated and hard working individual on part and stands above reproach as a represented serving those of us who have served this country.
Working with Kate McCray of Still Serving Veterans (SSV) is a wonderful experience. I did not know such professional coaching existed for veterans. Now when I meet a veteran going through transition, Still Serving Veterans is something I try to bring up in our conversation. I think the most important aspect is the great care that Still Serving Veterans coaches show to their clients, even if it's the smallest thing in the veteran's life, the still see importance in it. The goal posting without stress, and being open to opportunities are the most helpful aspects resulting from working with SSV.
I want to take a moment to tell you all how God sent me angel. I truly prayed to God for helping me with the V.A. system and that angel came from Still Serving Veterans in Huntsville Alabama. Her name is Jaymie Testman. I was truly lost in the V.A. system with no real understanding of what to do or even how to go about working with the V.A. Jaymie guided me through those rough waters (and yes, the V.A. is rough waters) to help me. I wish I could say or do something to show the respect and appreciation I have for Jaymie Testman all the hard work she has done for this lost veteran. All I can think of is "Thank You" Jaymie for being there for me. The Still Serving Veterans is a great group of people who really care about their veteran clients. Yes, us veterans. Thank you for my angel, Jaymie Testman and thank you Still Serving Veterans for being angels to all the veterans you serve. Just know God Blesses you all. V/r Douglas M. Velardo, retired USAF Technical Sergeant.

Long Forgotten. Those two words define what happened to me, Douglas M. Velardo - retired Air Force Technical Sergeant, when I applied initially at the VA. After many years, I met a retired marine who we are friends now, that if I went to Still Serving Veterans (SSV) they could assist me with the VA claims process. The VA long forgot about me as I previously attempted to do this process on my own, I felt like many veterans who were just set aside as it seemed at that time the VA was doing to many of us. By the way, my lone effort did me absolutely no good. I called and setup an appointment with Still Serving Veterans. And the day I walked into their office and was welcomed by the staff at SSV and counselor Jaymie Testman, I thought to myself "Oh My God", someone does care. Ms. Testman helped guide me and understand the medical issues I had been going through and explained what I needed to do. She helped me apply, which gave me in retirement the VA benefits I deserved over many years of suffering that I had accumulated over 20-years serving my country. The day the VA gave me the new rating, I cried. The last time I cried was when my only living parent dying 1989. I cried because I could not believe that someone like Ms. Testman nor an organization such as Still Serving Veterans could do so much for this long forgotten veteran. Simply put they do a great service for the many other veterans such as myself. Are the great to work with and can they help you? Yes. All I can say is God Bless them all at Still Serving Veterans for the good work they do even for long forgotten veterans such as me.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation for the help rendered to concerning my VA claims. Mr Moses Nervis and his SSV staff were tremendously helpful to me trying to navigate through a sometimes very complex VA claims process. I would without any uncertainty encourage those in similar circumstances as mind to reach out to a fine support group.
Sincerely,
James Brown ( USMC)
Mr. Moses Nervis has help with getting an increase with one of my VA claims. We submitted the proper documents and my increase was granted.
Transitioning from active duty is a daunting experience. Having someone in your corner helping you on your journey from Soldier to civilian, while also starting a new chapter in your career, is one of the most valuable tools. I cannot recommend SSV more. My counselor, Kate, was phenomenal! Job ideas, resume assistance, and just checking up on me, really made it feel like someone was there for me.
SSV remains central to its mission of serving veterans, at no cost to them and continues to make a great impact in the Huntsville/Madison area along with their satellite operations in other locations. Would strongly recommend any veteran in need actively seek out the wonderful professionals and volunteers at SSV when they need any type of help. They excel in counseling and job referrals, and are well-tied in to many local employers.
After finding out I was being medically retired out of the Army I didn’t know where to start my journey of civilian life. It wasn’t until I got the help, guidance, and leadership from SSV that I was able to confidently know the steps I needed to take in order to be successful in the civilian world. Big shout out to the office of SSV in Phenix City, Alabama as well to Kate McCray for being a great mentor, giving me positive reassurance and guidance to better tackle my journey outside of the military.
Still Serving Veterans contributes greatly to our transitioning Veterans in North Alabama and around the globe. Without them many of our Veterans and Military Retirees find it difficult to identify, qualify for, and begin outstanding second careers in line with their talents.
I have been a client of SSV in Phenix City for about a decade. Everyone there is not only extremely professional, but they are also extremely nice and personable. They have assisted me multiple times with finding not only jobs, but also careers. They even offer additional services which I haven't had the opportunity to use. I rarely give recommendations of people or organizations. I can say that have no hesitation whatsoever with recommending SSV of Phenix City. They truly care about veterans and have definitely made a difference in my life! Even though personnel will change from time to time, like any organization, the culture can't be beat.
After 27 years in the Army, I realized the hardest part was leaving the service. Still Serving Veterans helped me through the whole process from counseling, networking opportunities, writing my resume, navigating career fairs, and even working with the VA.
Still Serving Veterans went above and beyond to help me with my higher level review claim. Jamie Testman was very thorough with researching information about my claim. She made me feel valued and had a high interest in getting my issues resolved. I highly recommend SSV to be your VSO!!!
Today I lost my job. I immediately reached out to Dori Pelley on LinkedIn. Within 30 minutes she responded informing me Jamie Lee would reach out to me. A few minutes later, I received a text from Jaime. From there, she sent me the intake questionnaire, reached out to others who would be contacting me based on the services I requested, and kept me in the loop. I never had a question. Jaime provided all the information/updates. I was so impressed with Dori's and Jaime's responsiveness, that I asked Jaime for a survey link. She again performed above and beyond by doing what she could to locate a survey link. Prior to today, Dori had messaged me on LinkedIn a few times to check in on me. It was AWESOME knowing that I was still important even though I was not seeking employment.
I would give the Huntsville office a zero, if available. They were completely worthless! Very! Unprofessional and mishandled my submission. Miss-filed my claim for the disability I needed evaluation. Filed for Lumbar evaluation, when all my medical documentation indicated Cervical issue. I have to re-file and start the process over. They got my last name wrong ever time. My last name is Jones, I was called Mr. Junk??? Because they were more worried about chattering and joking around, than being professional and handling their job. When I was in with the case Manager, he was so in a hurry to get out of the office, when I would hand him records, he sat them to the side of his desk and didn’t even look at them. Unprofessional! The ladies from the office were outside of his office, waiting on him, talking about going to an event and eating their Good Hotdogs. So a Disabled vet is less than a Hotdog? Who is this office Serving? Not Disabled Veterans! Very Displeased with their Unprofessional conduct. MSG James (Tim) Jones US Army Retired
I approached Still Serving Veterans over two years ago about reapplying for disability. I found out I was classified as a Blue Water Sailor from duty in Vietnam in 1969 and I was exposed to agent orange.
I initially applied about 2013 after being encouraged to do so by a VA doctor at Huntsville CBOC because of my diabetes progression. I waited for over a year before being turned down and just gave up at that point.
Then I found out about Still Serving Veterans and met a gentleman and fellow patriot by the name of Moses Nervis. He restarted the process and we met several times over the past 2 or 3 years I finally found out yesterday that my claim was approved on December 28, 2022.
I am so grateful for Moses' determination and personal concern in helping me navigate a bureaucracy that I might have discouraged me from continuing.
Your service to veterans is terrific and so greatly appreciated.

After my transition from the Army I reached out to Still Serving Veterans for assistance in crafting a resume that would be able to accurately represent my achievements while in the military. Thanks to their experience with translating those skills into a way in which civilian companies would understand, I was able to use that resume to apply for and ultimately be offered the very first job I applied for. During the interview process, my interviewers were amazed at the things I had accomplished on my resume and I truly believe I would not have been offered the role had it not been for such a strong resume. I may have done the things that were written on it, but it was the staff at Still Serving Veterans that were able to capture it and bring it to life to ensure I was as strong a candidate as possible. I could not recommend their services, especially when it comes to crafting a civilian resume, strong enough.
Vincent Turner and Julia Chambers are awesome. They constantly check it with phone calls and email every few months to see how your job search is going. They also email jobs that have a preference for veterans. They give you mock panel interviews if needed. Long story short They do whatever is needed to help you succeed. It's been a pleasure working with them.
Dave Lakin, from Still Serving Veterans, is a true professional. He took the time to clarify the dynamics of the current hiring market here in Alabama and spearheaded action plans to improve my current processes. He opened lines of communication with his network that otherwise would have been missed, allowing me to forge new and value-added relationships with the people and companies that could positively affect my future. His positive attitude, wealth of knowledge, understanding of the defense industry space, and desire to help other veterans have been instrumental in my communications and applications with defense companies.
Great service and staff! Vincent Turner helped me with my resume and now I am going through the process of being hired at BOEING as a manager of one of them machining shops there. Awesome!
Hey! My name is Jason Guyton, former client, and SSV has been a wonderful resource towards getting my life together. I started as a homeless veteran needing a lot of assistance to now working in financial services. From interview skill sessions, cover letter assistance, resume assistance, and even pursuing my passion - the sport of youth/high school/collegiate/world wrestling - SSV made sure I was given support, dedication and an opportunity during one of the toughest times of my life. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do!
I have never heard anything but positive reviews related to the services provided by SSV, which makes me proud to serve on the BoD. I have a family member who recently reached out for support related to veteran benefits and her case was handled quickly and professionally. Together, the SSV team was successful in obtaining the benefit she was seeking. I can't say enough about how important it is for veterans to have a resource like this to reach out to.
Jaymie Testman and SSV are the epitome of the "Quiet Professional". Jaymie has walked me through every step of the VA process and went above and beyond anything I expected. I would STRONGLY recommend SSV and Jaymie to any Veteran who is looking for help navigating the VA battlefield.
Still Serving Veterans (SSV) is a one-of-a-kind organization that helps Veterans through all stages of Veteran life beginning with the transition from active duty. I've sent many Veterans to SSV for career and transition services as well as navigating the world VA claims and benefits. When comes to help Veterans, there is none finer that Still Serving Veterans. Thank you for all that you do!
It has always saddened my heart to see Military Veterans and their Families suffering and in true need. Many often struggle through a series of misfortunes that get overwhelming. Still Serving Veterans is a vital resource to these Veterans/Families that can help them restore so many of the basic essentials most of us take for granted. What a tremendous organization that has been a true lifeline to so many Veterans, giving them steadying support to get back on their feet! So thankful and blessed to be part of this all-star team!
SSV has amazed me tremendously! The amount of time, resources, and commitment they give to the Veteran community is immeasurable! Under the leadership and guidance of the President, Paulette Risher (Retired MG, US Army), they have been able to help so many Veterans find jobs and a community safe-haven for disabilities and challenges they experience after putting their lives on the line for our rights and our country! I was truly impressed when GEN Daly gave her a well-deserved, shout-out at the Armed Forces Celebration for a job well done! I am proud to serve as a SSV Board Member!
Still Serving Veterans is one of the most highly ethical, caring, and professional organizations that I've had the honor to be part of. As a board member, I have a deep understanding of the organization and have been very impressed by their outreach and effectiveness in helping Veterans. The leadership has strong management skills and personal experience serving in the military, which amplifies the ability of the organization to connect with those who need it most. I am proud of this group and happy to be able to be part of it!
Great organization of Veterans for Veterans executing their mission of fulfilling careers, benefits and services for those who have served. Highly recommend to retirees, those getting out or even thinking about getting out.
I retired from the US Army in Feb 1984. Realized I still had some VA benefits due. I started working with the Still Serving Veterans folks to assist me in applying for my Veteran Benefits. This started in Feb 2020, it was a struggle at first due to COVID, but we made it through that. Jaymie Testman has done an outstanding job. With her extreme knowledge and background I would not have go through the process. The staff at the Still Serving Veterans have all been extremely helpful all around. It is in the minds and the thinking or people like Still Serving Veterans, what they believe and how they act in relating to other people that make them a success. There dedication to our country and it's military is commendable and is an honorable addition to the Huntsville area Veterans.
Still Serving Veterans helped me find a rewarding career quickly in an unfortunate situation where I was laid off unexpectedly. Exceptional service and masterful knowledge of the employment process!
I had the privelege of working with Vincent and Julia who gave me vital and important information about the interview process, linkedin best practices and an indepth view of the best strategy to use in looking for new opportunities. Vincent and Julia are very knowledgeable and I appreciate their time with me. Thanks to them, I am revamping my linkedin, my elevator speech, editing my resume and working on taking advantage of the most asked questions during interviews. And SSV will be in your corner till your goal is achieved and even after wards.
Thank you Still Serving Veterans for the wonderful work you do.
Each time I contact someone with Still Serving Veterans, they are very professional. I had the pleasure of working with Bill Koch & Vincent Turner. This is a much needed demeanor when engaging with our Veterans. I appreciate the service this organization provides to our servicemen - Dr. Andrain Yeldell Jones
I needed assistance filing a claim for disability compensation. Moses (located in the Huntsville, Al office), went above and beyond, helping to ensure I submitted an accurate and complete claim. I can't say enough about his knowledge and thoroughness. He made the process seamless. I'm very satisfied with his work and effort in assisting me.
When I was at a loss, SSV did it all...talked me through various mazes ...led me through anguish and soul searching. Keep it going for veterans AND for us family members. Thank you.
I asked for help they had me provide them with my service information and a description of my issue. Then they said it had to be approved. I needed the fees to submit my Merchant Mariner Credential ppwk. They never got back with me. Several weeks later I got an email related to a promotional event SSV was having and I stated that SSV had never helped me. Vincent contacted me by email and said he was sorry he hadn't got back to me. The financial help was not approved and he forgot to tell me. That is SSV. I've been unemployed now for 3 years and the only help I've ever gotten is from the VA. VSO are not always what they claim to be. Their workers get paid first.
As my parents aged they were able to do less around their home. Their level of care increased, along with the increase in healthcare costs and other daily living costs. Their retirement was quickly depleted. I stepped in to help them figure things out. One of the things I discovered was that my Dad was eligible for a VA Pension. Thus began my interaction with Still Serving Veterans to help facilitate the Pension which, in turn, was the baseline for Survivor Benefits and Aid and Attendance for my mother.
Once all the Pension paperwork was submitted, my Dad was fortunate to qualify for a VA Pension. He felt since he didn't retire from the Navy, he wouldn't qualify, but I encourage ALL Veterans who are trying to make ends meet to at least meet with Still Serving Veterans to determine if they are eligible. It basically depends on how long the veteran was in the military, if there was any conflict/war during the service period, if they departed the military in good standing and if they qualify for assistance (i.e. if their bills are outweighing their income).
May 31, 2020, my dad passed. He was 90 years old and lived a great life! Then began the arduous task of applying for Survivor Benefits and VA Aid and Attendance for my mother. I could not have survived this process without Terri Womack (USAF, Retired) with Still Serving Veterans here in Huntsville, AL. Terri guided me through this process of up's and down's, amendment after amendment. She brought me through all the asks for additional information and yes, even denials, all the way through to this year when I found out my mother was approved for VA Aid and Attendance. Without Terri's guidance, diligence, knowledge and patience I would not be where I am today. Thank you Terri!
I wanted to take a moment and thank all of you who work for Still Serving Veterans here in Huntsville, AL. For without each of you I know most people would give up, not being able to understand what is being asked, how to fill out all the forms, to keep pushing through the processes. I know I wanted to give up several times, but I was constantly educated and encouraged to keep jumping over the next hurdle. Today I know I have done everything possible to help my parents.
This folks with Still Serving Veterans need to be afforded every opportunity to grow, educate and reach more Veterans and their families. This is quite the team of exceptional people.
With Gratitude!
Amy
As a transitioning service member there are thousands of veteran's service organizations to choose from. I chose Still Serving Veterans because they are a one stop shop and they actually care about the success of the veteran's they assist. I have spoken on the phone with four different associates who were willing to answer all of my questions, despite the fact that they probably answer them hundreds of times per day. My resume was written with my input and the final product far exceeded what I could have done on my own. I greatly appreciate Still Serving Veterans for everything they have done so far and everything they continue to offer as I get closer to my separation date.
I was nearing a year after retiring from a 30 year career during the COVID pandemic with no real progress occurring with the VA. Jaymie at SSV stepped up to assist me with the process. She was thorough, empathetic and very helpful. In a matter of 4 months, my case as submitted, evaluations completed and my assessment was rendered by the VA. Truly amazing. I was lost and frustrated without SSV's help. Tremendous support. My family and I are very grateful to Jaymie and the entire SSV team.
A top notch organization that helped me even after I transitioned out of my military service. They not only helped me with my resume, they gave me good advice and litterateur on civilian employment and how to adjust to the culture. The men and women of this organization are eager to assist as most of them are prior service that are still serving our military service members through the ruff transition of becoming a civilian again.
The good things mentioned here about this organization can hardly be expressed in words. It seems the deeds are an reward in themselves. I know from experience you do not work here to make money, but what you do make here is a difference. Not just for others, but yourself as well.
SSV was like a helpful safe harbor when transition time came. From filing for VA disability, to preparing my resume and my LinkedIn page, and just spending time talking to the great staff, Paulette, and the rest. Very helpful and positive experience.
Still Serving Veteran's has been the best organization I've worked with during my transition. I started over a year ago and have attended various classes and asked a thousand questions and SSV had the answers. I would have been lost without their great staff. I felt a personal connection with several of them and every piece of information they have provided has been utilized by me at some point during my transition. Whether it was interviewing, resume building or just expectation management, SSV knew exactly how to assist. I can thank of no greater organization and only wish at some point I will be able to repay their kindness, understanding and support.
SSV was helpful, informative, and supportive during my transition into the civilian life. They helped me with my resume and to find a job. Although I no longer work at that company and I am in “retirement mode”, I would still reach out to SSV for assistance in finding employment. I often forward their job posting to my fellow veterans in the area and recommend SSV to them as a resource.

I wouldn't be where i am at without still serving veterans. As a military spouse of an active duty member, i was hesitant to reach out for help, but their team is incredible. Kim is the queen of resumes! Not only do they offer resume writing support, they actively fill positions with candidates, have deep relationships with companies who serve the military community and are actively advertising apprenticeship programs for the military spouse community. We are often a forgotten group, led to just learn that we aren't allowed to have our careers because employers wont take a chance on us due to our background. Still serving veterans allows military spouses a fighting chance to find employement and follow up even after we are employed. It's a relationship that grows even between jobs.
Superb service and great, friendly help with both VA claim help and also resume building assistance. Jaymie and Ben are both superstars and extremely helpful. The VA stuff can be intimidating, but Jaymie made it a smooth ride and was looking out for me.
I wish this organization had been around when my father needed support. A friend who served in Vietnam but had never asked for any VA support took my advice and made an appointment with an SSV VA counselor. He received a lump sum and over $300 per month - enough to make a difference!
I've worked for this non-profit for over a year now and I am constantly inspired by the care and support our counselors give to each and every Veteran that walks through the door.
Still Serving Veterans really helped me with the transition from military to civilian life. They helped in giving constructive criticism to my resume, helped me network in the local community, helped me better my LinkedIn page, and best of all they are still going to bat for me every week to make sure my VA claim is processed properly. I could not have done it myself. Jaymie absolutely helped me navigate the burdensome process of filing my disability claim, re-filing, and in the end made absolutely sure that my claim was giving the appropriate attention from the VA. She taught me about the process, and also taught me about the appropriate vernacular, and how to best convey my medical history. A really awesome service was their ability to submit paperwork on my behalf after I took a job on a different continent. This made processing of my VA paperwork much easier. I forgot to sign a signature block on a specific piece of paper to add my dependents to my claim, no problem, SSV acting as my agent took care of it.
SSV is not a one trick pony. The office is full of experience, and community links. Ben did a great job of helping me understand some of the more subtle transition moments. Best of all they are always there when ever I need them. Sometimes I just stop by to chat with them because they are awesome people.
High Five for Still Serving Veterans!!! This team of talented professionals shared options for employment that I wasn't aware of and or ever considered. All team members are Veterans which gives credence to the their understanding of the transition process. Too, I have received help with LinkedIn, my resume, and networking. I am so thankful for my new position!
I have worked with this nonprofit before and they are amazing. From the staff to the volunteers. It is amazing what they do for the veterans of Huntsville, Al and more.
Not only did this organization help me with my resume resulting in a much-needed career change they also helped me with my VA Disability benefits claim with a positive outcome that now allows me to get access to treatments that will help. This team of Veterans is dedicated to helping other Veterans and I am so thankful for their continued service.
I received outstanding services from Still Serving Veterans. My case worker (Ms. Womack) went above and beyond to answer all of my questions and provide additional resources that could be beneficial to my family. The entire staff was very professional and caring. I would highly recommend Still Serving Veterans to any veteran or veteran's family member looking for advice, education, and or knowledge regarding veteran benefits.
My husband passed away in March 2019, he was a veteran having served four years in the Air Force during the Korean war. I had heard of this organization from a friend. I went there and everyone was so kind and supportive. They reviewed, filed and submitted all the paperwork necessary for a claim to the VA for me. I recently received reimbursement in a very timely manner.
I appreciate their assistance in supporting me during this difficult period in my life. I highly recommend their services. I have mentioned their services to several retired military friends.
Thank You,
Noelle Anderson
Awesome organization who strives at helping veterans. Not only is each member knowledgeable about veterans issues, but they show a level of compassion to each veteran that warms the heart. Especially, Kevin W. who not only helped me with finding employment, but lifted my spirits up after losing my job. Kevin W. could have just given me some job counseling, but instead he gave me the motivation to continue on. He didn’t have too, he chose too. That kind of commitment from SSV is what sets them above any veteran organization.
I went to still serving veterans at least 4 times- the results were just nothing- a thirty minute lecture by my case worker about his problems - then he tried to send me to apply for a job un-loading trucks at home depot- im a 58 year old- I don't need ssv to tell me I can apply for that kind of "JOB"- why does the ceo at ssv make over $100,000.00 per year while homeless vets sleep on the streets and go hungry ? to me this is just an excuse for a select group to get in the spotlight and congratulate themselves for being such do gooders while collecting a pay check- they never did one thing for me - not one- I have heard others with the same issues- a lot of people make a living by shuffling the poor unfortunate vet around . I went to ssv 3 times hoping for a little bit - but was treated like a stain on the carpet that needed to be removed as soon as possible- they ran a credit & background check on me ?!?!?!-and on my next visit my so called case worker spent my 45 minute appointment telling me his life story and his problems!- finally he said go home and look for employment on the internet- wow- I put on a clean shirt and drove 20 miles and put my best foot forward for this. I have had a fairly serious health issue in the last 3 years, lost my job and at age 55 find no one willing to hire me- its hurts. but my treatment at ssv hurt even more- my name is Robert Mitchell 256-828-6889 if anyone might know a job for me. but don't bother ssv- they only care with cameras on.

I attended a job fair and met the wonderful staff at
Still Serving Veterans in Phenix City AL. I just walked up and simply asked them what they did. I'm a widow of a Veteran and they offered to help me any way they could. They made me an appt and the resume' that i had made was not sufficient. They helped me to re-write my resume' and gave me some information on some job leads. Thanks to them I am gainfully employed and starting a new chapter in my life. I am very blessed to have found them because I've been lost since my husband passed and they rescued me. I am grateful.
Still Serving Veterans is phenomenal! They provide a multitude of services for veterans. They assisted me with filing my VA disability claim. I also had the opportunity to attend their Resume Writing and Interview Class. They help veterans in a number of different ways. If your a veteran and in Alabama give them a call! I'm proud of what the services they provide to us veterans. They get it and are passionate about helping Veterans however they can.

I started my journey with SSV (Huntsville, Ala) about a year ago. I am proud of my association with all these dedicated people. If it were not for the assistance and support of Ms. Trudy Lewis and the entire staff, I would still be struggling to get help for my service connected problems. Thanks to folks like Ms. Lewis and the SSV organization staff of volunteers I received immediate help and guidance on what I had to do and provide to VA so as to obtain the help I now so gratefully receive. With the assistance and support of Ms. Lewis I was able to obtain records and documentation that I could never procure on my own. I received more help and assistance from "day 1" working with Ms. Lewis and SSV than I received from DA, VA and TRICARE, in the past 20 years. I can not say thanks enough for
the genuine caring shown to myself and my family by the blessed folks at SSV.
Still serving veterans made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked into the door. They sat down with me and completed a resume for me that was very professional. They gave me great tips on how to setup my Linked in account and information on creating a profeesional email account. They gave great information about posting on facebook. They offered to do mock job interviews with me. I was called for an interview for a job based off of the resume they assisted me with. I was chosen over individuals who had a college degree while I was 6 classes away from completing mine. I would recommend them to any veteran.
Members of still serving veterans provided me with that welcoming feeling of camaraderie during the civilian re-integration period. They provided me with a handful of resources that are also helpful to other veterans to get back on their feet such as resume preparation, jobs search, and mock interviews to name a few. Another value that intrigued me most of some of the staff was their ability display care, by periodically checking in with members who've received their services in the past, and ensuring them that someone from Still serving Veteran is always there to help with anything.
This organization is furnishing veterans & spouse with skills to be successful on the civilian job market by networking and restructuring resumes to nurture a particular job interest. Their local office is readily available and the staff is friendly, polite and packed with lots of knowledge in reference to available positions and social events.
Went in with a solid resume. Still serving assisted with some tweaking and interview tips Everyone in the Phenix City office had great personalities and were willing to help. Their follow ups were great and timely and appreciated.
My name is Daphne, I was job hunting and seems as if I could not get a job interview, for jobs I am totally qualified to do. Just the same I was a little reluctant to go to "Still Serving Veterans" mostly because I did not understand what they really assist a veteran with. Well I finally needed some assistance trying to figure out what I was doing wrong....
My first appointment was 26 Jan 2016. And we went from there. The have a GREAT team, they assisted me with my resume, and ideas and different approaches for how to job hunt head on, and I finally got and interview.. It might not sound like much but that's a huge stone for me. I've been looking for work since July 2015. My goal was to check and search the internet daily and fill out at least 1 job application a day. Absolutely NO HITS...until I went to "Still Serving Veterans" From Jan 26, to 4 March 2016..... I finally got an interview.
Thank you so much to Still Serving Veterans for you assistance with all that you do for FREE to veterans actively trying to find employment. Keep up the GREAT work with that GREAT team. Daphne
I met an Advisor while at a Job Fair and they really try to help with and educate in the job search. And they still contact me from time to time! I Love what they are doing for Veterans and their families!
Love what they do to help veterans and soldiers. They have been very helpful through my job searching process. They have also been very supportive every step of the way. Love how they call an see how things are going. Also love how they give you information to help you along the way. Like sending me an email about an upcoming job fair. They do a wonderful job and I would recommend them to any veteran or solider I know looking for help.

Still Serving Veterans is not just a great name or organization. It is committed people helping, sacrificing and striving to assist veterans in finding employment The process was smooth and their continued resolve to follow through is superb. From the initial, first time encounter to the first person to person appointment to go over goals, producing a finish product (resume), information gathering for jobs and subsequent follow up, has been wonderful. The entire team of Kim Woods, Jim and Charles have been great in extending their knowledge and passion for helping others.
Still Serving Veterans gave me the tools I needed to hopefully land a good job and Veterans benefits. The day I called them, I was seen the next morning. Still Serving Veterans will do what they advertise, and it's all free!
I am in the process of transitioning and am confident because I have Still Serving Veterans and Joe Woods assisting me along the way. Very professional and helpful. Still Serving Veterans is there when I need them for questions anxious moments /questions such as resume building and building health records of which I otherwise would not have known, they arecovered there. Because of this service I'm less anxious regarding my separation process. I'm looking forward to continued positive experiences.
The name speaks for itself and says it all! This group of professionals will take the time out to point you in the right direction when searching for employment. Their follow up is unlike anything I've encountered which further lets you know that they really do care about finding the right job for you.
I have been unemployed for a substantial period of time. At about the 4 month point, I went to Still Serving Veterans and was immediately provided outstanding personal service. I get regular Emails for jobs and talk to them weekly. Although I still am seeking work, they have helped me immensely. My job history was of good paying jobs and many employers simply won't make an offer but Still Serving Veterans keeps me morivated. I wish to acknowledge two people in particular; Paulette Risher and Anthony Bush. They have both been exceptional! I believe in what this organization does and highly recommend them as a Top of the Line organization!
Great experience. Their sole purpose is to help veterans and they don't charge a dime. Great people, always willing to help with great attitudes.
I met several staff members who were veterans themselves and quickly became acquainted with their services. Jeremy squared me away with a workable and solid resume. Kim kept me in line and on time by communicating timely and relevant information. Charlie and I engaged in a powerful "sitdown" about entrepreneurial and business startups, all intertwine in sharing Gods' Word. Three meetings within three weeks with three awesome people. A great experience I must say.

I'm using their there search engine for Jobs. I hold them in the highest esteem. They also provide me with temporary available jobs. I hold them in the highest esteem. I don't have anything else to say about the Still Serving Veterans.
Still helping veterans is a very helpful and caring organization that does what they can to ensure you are assisted, would recommend to every veteran for help in employment and va benefits two thumbs up
I have a really good experience and they were very helpful. They helped out with my resume and gave me several contacts in order to be successful in the job market
Still Serving Veterans assisted me with my employment transition when I retired from the military and relocated to Alabama. They assisted me with improving my resume and provided me with leads on potential jobs. The veteran community is made better with them involved.
This organization is a top of the line service for veterans, I have recommended their services to some my veteran friends because they have helped me and continue to demonstrate a genuine concern for us veterans.
There are a lot of GOOD organizations out there providing opportunities for military Veterans and their families. What sets Still Serving Veterans apart and makes them a GREAT organization, is their love and insurmountable passion for developing relationships with Veterans and families.
Still Serving Veterans is the rose among the weeds. Tirelessly looking to connect Vets with quality jobs, community relationships, while motivating the community to play an active role within those Veterans' lives. Still Serving Veterans is the light, piercing through the darkness, firmly planted in the harbor, and reaching out to guide military Veterans to safety.
I am proud to find an organization that is willing to help carry my ruck that extra mile and empowering me to make a difference in my community.

I have worked with SSV as a partner in the community they are a big supporter on doing the right thing. They have a great group of people there that looks after the Veteran. Thanks for all your help Bill, Will and team.

Very helpful and support numerous veteran opportunities. Provide great advice and tie you into network for looking for employment.
I received Incredible personalized (and personal) support from the staff after I learned that I was subject to layoff by my company, even as a senior (30+ years experience with an engineering Master's degree) candidate for placement. My situation is not an "easy fix" in this economy and yet they took on my case with compassion and focus. I remain actively in the hunt but I don't think I could find more capable hands or hearts on which to rely for sound advice and reliable direction in a scenario I did not anticipate and have not been through in some time. Bravo to SSV from a grateful veteran!
Helpful and connected. Robust network allows for maximum exposure or in my case, opportunities for me to volunteer. They helped place my best friend, thank you. I am wary of some of the other huge veteran charities who pump out large sums but also have a huge overhead; luckily SSV is transparent and committed to veterans. I have nothing but good things to say about SSV.
As a volunteer I helped organize a motorcycle poker run with proceeds going to SSV; I helped with their resume workshop which had an awesome turnout and through them I am able to help veterans who may need a handyman or small repairs.
After the economic decline in 2008, I ended up loosing my business. Through SSV I was able to enroll in renewable energy courses. This lead to becoming certified as a Building Analyst. Because SSV partnered with other local non-profits that provided a gateway into a job.
still serving veterans is just a rip off- the big cheese makes well over a hundred thousand per year to run this so called "non -profit"- as a veteran I went to them for a little help finding a job and was treated to a 45 minute lecture y my case worker about how little he was paid to work as ssv!- they couldn't wait to show me the door- I returned 2 more times thinking maybe I just went on a bad day- wrong! they just ask the federal govt. for grants and hand outs from local companies and individuals so they can eat donuts and pocket the rest as "operating expense" ie a round of golf followed by a round of martinis or two- give to an honest non profit and help the needy

Robert, You have made several disparaging remarks on this site and others. Allow me to address your specific comments. The office spaces you refer to are the result of a very generous landlord who is determined to help us with our mission. Our new office space actually costs less than our previous space. The desks you condemn are used furniture that was donated by a local bank. We are not a clique of former or wannabe contractors, we are Veterans ourselves determined to help other Veterans because there is a need. We have helped over 16,000 Veterans since our inception and last year helped 315 Veterans get jobs. We are justifiably proud of the organization’s accomplishments. Can we help everyone? The answer is nobody can help everyone. Your experience with the counselor was unfortunate, but that is not indicative of this organization. In fact, that particular counselor is no longer part of Still Serving Veterans and we have other counselor’s that you could have, and are welcome to talk to. Our financials are posted for anyone to look at, and we undergo two robust audits every year from outside agencies. We do not now, nor have we ever received Federal funding. We have received awards from the Better Business Bureau for ethics, the Department of the Army, and are recipients of the Call of Duty’s seal of distinction. The people who work here are passionate and committed to helping Veterans. We are proud of who and what we are, and will gladly do our best to help you, if you still need and/or want help. Bill Koch Director, Still Serving Veterans
I was fortunate enough to learn about Still Serving Veterans last October...what a wonderful organization! I have been volunteering there and not only is it a fulfilling experience, the staff there makes you feel so very appreciated.
Volunteering with Still Serving Veterans has been a great experience. I have learned a lot more about the Huntsville veteran community, the needs of our local veterans and ways to help them that I never knew were possible. They will help a veteran with any problem. If they don't have some who can help, they will find another person or organization who can. I have witnessed this organization change lives for the better on numerous occasions.
The people who came to the event were very appreciative of those taking the time to help them. The people I came in contact with were genuinely excited on what they learned and seemed positive with the critique on their resumes.
SSV is one of the few nonprofits that provide our Veterans , wounded warriors and their families a holistic approach to reintegration. They are a national fully service agency for providing Veterans assistance in filing their VA claims or appealing their claims. They provide an individual employment plan for Veterans and mentor them so they can be trained, educated and provided with a meaningful new careers as they transition into post military live. The staff are all Veterans and professional counselors who can assist with benefits and job placement.
