I started my recovery by coming to meetings at Step 1. This was in 1995. I had never been free from drugs and alcohol before and had been in alot of trouble. There was a little old Italian man by the name of Eli Maritano who was kind and who told me "we treat everyone like they are the one who is going to make it". And he did. Every single person. I went to lots of meetings, got a job, and learned how to become responsible. Even when I moved into my own place I was still came back to Step 1 to talk to the new residents and have dinner. I was always made to feel welcome there. I am still clean today, 2011, and go visit Step 1 whenever I am in Nevada. Being in recovery has allowed me to live my dreams and become a productive member of society. I will always be grateful to the men at Step 1 for giving me a second chance at life.
