I attended the April 25, 2009 performance of Ahmisa and was astounded by the graceful presence and inspiring energy of each dancer in this modern dance production. Each element of the production, ranging from the uplifting choreography, compelling music, airy and colorful costumes, simple yet dramatic set design, and even the storyline itself, highlighted each dancer's talents in a way that made them shine, both individually and collectively as a dance company. Watching the performance was an engaging, positive experience, much like the story of Humkara--sweet, hopeful, and endearing.

I have so much fun being a dancer in Stella Nova because of the connections I make with the dancers and teachers. That is my favorite part. Dance haas always been my form of release and other dance activities ive been involved with have always gotten to the point where they just get stressful and are no longer a fun experience. Stella Nova has never crossed that line and I am very greatful for that. I give the dance company a 4 because I don't feel that my technique has been improved because of the classes I have taken with Stella Nova, so I would suggest creating tougher technique classes for the dancers to take.

I was amazed at the committment Stella Nova has in terms of "going green" not only from their staff, but also from their young women who dance with the company. Eco-friendly practices are expected within the company, in addition to the fundraisers and the manners in how they function are purely and consciously green. I'm proud to be a member of a strong organization who has a desire to continue to make San Diego a healthier place emotionally, physically and environmentally for all people.

Volunteering for Stella Nova has been a great learning process as it is my first experience on a board with a start-up non-profit. In addition to teaching the dancers, our executive directors have a lot of experience with non-profit dance companies so they have helped to guide the process. We are now filling our board and volunteer corps with enthusiastic and experienced members who have a passion for youth and dance. The group has been great to work with as we all have the common interest of providing a warm, supportive environment for our dancers and giving back to the community by sharing the art of dance throughout San Diego County. In addition to dancing, our dancers have had the opportunity to intern and learn the business side of the company. As a green company, we promote and educate our dancers, families, and audience about living "green". This has been a great experience for me personally to learn and to give back to youth and the community.

Stella Nova has been fabulous for our daughter. It has given her a focus, supported her development physically, as an artist, and as a young adult, and the whole group is so nice. The productions are amazing and give us real appreciation for dance, music, and the arts. Our involvement with Stella Nova draws us closer to the other families and makes all of us richer for the experience. Caron and Josh Feder

I love Stella Nova, it has helped me greatly improve on my dancing and my preformance quality. Its also a safe place for me and the rest of the dance company to go to when you may not be having the best say. Also, When Stella Nova decided to go green we all made sure to put it in use in our daily lifes no just for props for the show.

On April 24-25th at 8:00pm at the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre, within the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla, Stella Nova Dance Company will present, Ahimsa. Stella Nova Dance Company has decided to go green, just in time for the rest of the world to also be talking about this crucial concept in our world. The production will tackle issues such as global warming, humans in relationship to the environment, and cause and effect relationships such as light, rain, and the growth of the earth. The company will also be incorporating global awareness into the production by using recycled paper for programs and postcards, vintage costumes, recycled products for props and LED lights. Ahimsa will be showcasing original modern dance pieces choreographed by company artistic director, Rayna Stohl as well as guest choreographer and company executive director, Molly Terbovich. ECO-Fair: There will also be an Eco-Fair in the lobby each night. The Eco-Fair will include displays and information available from local green businesses to help educate our audience on ways they can help contribute to saving our planet. Stella Nova dancers are also contributing by researching issues close to their heart and displaying this information for all to learn from.
