Mission: The Directors Company is a not-for-profit theatre company with an extraordinary record and a “consistent commitment to excellence” (American Theatre Wing Award, 15 consecutive years) in its mission to develop and produce groundbreaking new plays and musicals initiated and generated by outstanding directorial talent, for the American theatre public. For over twenty-five years, The Directors Company has mentored and supported emerging artists in the development of original theatre works from inception to production, providing artistic and dramaturgical guidance to promising, new theatre artists and their projects. The future of American theatre depends on a regular influx of new works, to the development of which The Directors Company is committed, and the collaborative process we encourage involves not only the playwright and director but also, designers and audiences who play a part in the emergence of original works giving voice to contemporary concerns.
Programs: Tdc is composed of three divisions, each fostering the development and production of theatre artists and their work: mainstage division, development division, and s. T. A. R. , an educational outreach program. Mainstage production division, fully mounted productions showcase to the public the work of new talent. This season, we have mounted two mainstage productions off-broadway at 59e59 theaters: poetic license a new play by jack canfora and directed by evan bergman and currently, murder in the first by dan gordon, featuring a cast of 15 including tony-nominated actor chad kimball, directed by michael parva, both of which were developed through script work and readings at the directors company.
