STAR is an incredible organization dedicated to proper care for parrots, and does amazing work to educate potential adopters and fosters. We are current fosters for over a year, and adopted our green cheek conure, Greg, from STAR last year. Coming from not having birds, STAR's parrot care class gave us everything we needed to know to get started fostering, and the team of amazingly dedicated volunteers is incredible about providing support and information to guide you along the way--both for fosters, and as well as before and after adoption. The adoption process may seem overly involved to someone who doesn't understand the requirements for proper parrot care, but if it's too daunting to get through the application, I can guarantee a parrot is not the right companion for you. Thank you so much to STAR for giving us all of the tools, resources, and connecting us with the amazing volunteers who we've been able to learn from and become friends with throughout this journey! The fact that this entire organization is volunteers shows how much they really, truly care.

I continue to love STAR and am constantly impressed by how much everyone involved truly cares about the birds. Exotics like parrots have very different needs than dogs or cats, and I’m so grateful that STAR takes the time to make sure both foster and adoptive homes are fully prepared to meet those needs. Since becoming a foster, I’ve learned so much and look forward to continuing to grow and improve my care. I have been fostering for STAR for the past 3 years, and I can't say enough great things about this organization. They strive to ensure that volunteers have the education and resources they need to succeed. On top of that, they also work hard to secure donations in order to supply foster homes with all of the necessary supplies, helping to make the cost of fostering as little as needed. Highly recommend!

I am sorry that you feel this way. Due to the long lifespans of many parrot species, we work diligently to ensure they are going to the best home possible. As you may know, on average parrots will live in at least 7 homes during their lifetime. Our goal is to find the best fit and hopefully find the most stable and lasting homes possible.
As both as an adopter and a volunteer, I can say that this organization has helped so many homeless parrots find their forever homes. They work tirelessly to ensure that each bird is a good fit, keeping what is best for the bird as their absolute priority. STAR fills a much needed role in the area for exotic pets like parrots!

The St. Louis Avian Rescue non-profit endeavors to rescue, treat and home parrots. I have worked with the organization for eight years. Its volunteers work together to help a neglected animal in the community by providing education about birds.
I was so inspired the work of STAR that I decided to volunteer and my work with them has grown ever since. The team is knowledgeable, compassionate, and works tirelessly to ensure each bird’s unique needs are met while making sure that adopters feel welcomed and supported throughout the adoption process. They go above and beyond to create a positive adoption experience, ensuring that every bird finds a loving, well-matched home.

I began getting involved with STAR after attending a local event and chatting with other volunteers. They are dedicated to the cause and are very welcoming to new volunteers, potential adoptees, and those simply interested in hearing about our mission or parrot care. I have adopted many birds from this organization. I appreciate the thought and care they provide into matching potential adopters with birds who would be a good fit. This ensures that birds are placed into quality homes and they have a low incidence of returning to the rescue.
STAR does an amazing job of fostering birds! I also really appreciate the hand-written thank you cards I receive with cute ‘paintings’ of different bird species on the front of the card! What a great way to thank donors AND send a card I want to hang up on my cork board. It’s a great reminder to donate regularly.
As both a volunteer and adopter, I can say without hesitation that STAR exemplifies it's mission everyday with integrity and compassion. All of the volunteers donate so much time into creating a safe space for birds while they wait for their forever home to find them.
As a volunteer and adopter with this organization, I have learned so much about birds and grown so much as a person. The great individuals who work together to make this organization run smoothly are so kind and helpful. The birds in their care are better taken care of than any others I’ve seen, and the volunteers are always working tirelessly to make sure everything is up to their standards. I couldn’t have picker a better non-profit to volunteer for.
In the past 4 and a half years I’ve adopted 3 beautiful boys from STAR with my most recent being just last week. Each foster parent I worked with was so enthusiastic and helpful giving me tips and tricks to help me and my companions succeed and thrive. The compassion, joy, sincere love for these babies is simply a gift to see in each volunteer I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and becoming friends with even after the adoption process. I love my 3 goofy boys and it’s all because of Star.

I have adopted 2 beautiful blue and gold macaws both from STAR in the past 3 years. What attracted me to STAR is that they are all volunteer based and work so hard to make sure they find the perfect home and companion for these guys. I have worked with 2 different fosters while going through the adoption process and they make it so easy and fun! I highly recommend STAR as even 3 almost 4 years after adopting my first macaw from them I keep in touch and offer advice, help when having any questions. It’s like an open door policy with them, feel free to ask anything and they will help or know someone in the agency that can help. These birds deserve all the love and affection as new born birds do, used birds are the best! Oscar and calypso are my companions and make life so much fun and I owe it to STAR for helping me adopt them.
I have been a volunteer and foster with Star since 2019. I have also adopted three beautiful babies from them.
Star is a nonprofit that works with unwavering integrity and empathy for the surrendering parties, the adopters, and most of all the parrots themselves.

STAR is an amazing organization. I found STAR when I was looking to adopt a pet. All of the volunteers were so helpful throughout the adoption process and were extremely kind once I adopted my handsome feathered friend by answering questions and making suggestions to ensure both me and my newly adopted bird settled in together nicely. I was so impressed with the adoption process and all the helpful people involved that I started following STAR on social media, donating, and attending events. It didn’t take long before I wanted to be a part of this remarkable organization. I recently started fostering for STAR and it has become a wonderful experience. Not only is it a well run but all the volunteers are welcoming and supportive. They have such a great support system for both the volunteers and our feathered friends looking for forever homes. STAR is a wonderful organization led by amazing and dedicated volunteers. I adopted my sweet Quaker parrot through them in 2017. There are so many parrots in need of a loving home and not enough rescue groups dedicated to helping them. I'm so glad to have found STAR and continue to support them and cheer them on as they show our feathered friends some unconditional love, and work long and hard to match them to their perfect families.

We all care so much about all the birds in our care. We do are best to make sure all the birds find the right forever loving homes. All the volunteers and fosters put in so much of their time to care for the birds. This is such a wonderful group of caring and loving people. I am so glad I found this group so I can help as many birds as possible.
The work that these people put in on a daily basis as volunteers is outstanding. I’ve adopted from them twice and I am always amazed at how hard these people work to rehabilitate these birds.
I have seen many videos of Kyra performing her dances, some talking, and cuddling with herb Mom. I have seen Fred going from sick, weak, poor eater, to a much healthier bird who eats his food Mom's plate, cuddles with Erin.They are both miracle parrots, thanks to Erin working through STAR.
Erin and Bridget brought Kyra to visit at Solstice Senior Living. It was a thrill for me; and the many Staff and residents who came in to see her and hold her on their arms, talking to her. Some did not get to meet Kyra. Everyone can't wait for them to come back. Someone mentions it to me daily.
I've known about these guys for a few years. They are very helpful in helping people find the right bird for them and giving advice for bird owners who need help. They are very well organized, and they take great care of the animals they rescue.
I have volunteered and have been a prospective adopter. STAR has been nothing but wonderful and full of people who really care. They make it easy to ask questions and are dedicated to making sure you find your perfect fit of a feathered family member!

A few years ago I wanted a Budge for one of my daughters. I found STARS St Louis Avian Rescue. My contact was excellent in helping me find the correct bird for my daughter. She was very well versed in the care of birds. We adopted the bird and had many great years of fun with this sweet bird.
I like how they are careful about screening. I like how they are so knowledgeable about birds. They are a great resource for those interesting in adopting a bird.

I happened upon an event they were hosting at a local restaurant. I don't think I have ever met a more dedicated group of individuals. They absolutely adore the birds and you can feel the love in their hearts for their feathered friends.
