Use caution if you plan to become a member of SYAA. Unfortunately, this association is very unorganized and mis-manages its funds. Board members have been serving in their positions for the past 8 years and makeup rules as they go to benefit themselves and their deceitfulness. They do not follow any bi-laws and limit the authority to vote to the board members only. I have seen coaches of 5 years and longer voted out of their position because of the friend of a board member wanted to coach their child that season. Some of the board members do not even have kids in the SYAA program. The same people have ask the treasurer to issue large checks to them without any just cause or questions asked as to why the funds are needed. The treasurer has also admitted to issuing large checks payable to cash and turned funds over to other board members without asking for any receipts. Members of SYAA have asked to see the books and were told everything is shredded once it comes in and were denied access to any financial information. None of these board members has the skill or character to ensure there is transparency in the operations of this non-profit organization. Nor do they abide by any ethics related to serving the public in the capacity as a board member. There are no checks and balances in place and board members refuse to step down or hold a vote for a new election of the board. It should be noted also that if you decide to have your child join this association that there are annual membership fees in addition to each event that your child participates and up until recently uniforms where not included. You would be much better off going to another schools rec program where the fees are significantly lower which allows more kids to participate in sporting events. Several members and families have been forced to take their kids out of the SYAA to play elsewhere because of the unjust and unethical practices of this organization. I personally think that board members should only be allowed a 2 year term and should be accountable to its members.
