Standby Task Force is an organization which plays an important role in delivering a potentially life-saving information to the humanitarian responders by producing various types reports, crisis maps or information spreadsheets . It does so by engaging online volunteers from all around the world, who commit their free time in order to help those affected by the humanitarian crisis. As a member of SBTF for almost a year, I have had a chance to collaborate on 2015 Nepal Earthquake mission as well as in post-disaster Vanuatu cyclone mapping. In both cases, it was really eye-opening to see how big change the volunteers can make when collaborating together for the good purpose. I feel proud being a part of such a big family and strongly encourage anyone who feels like helping others to join our team!
SBTF is an amazing group, due to the worldwide coverage and on-line activity they are able to respond to disasters within a few hours, and stay active 24 hours a day. They create maps of the new and changing landscape and monitor media output for important information about the crisis. Meaning they can collate valuable information in the first few days for the first responders to use when they reach the affected area. They are a professional and determined group dealing in a whole new way to respond to humanitarian crisis, which so far has shown endless potential and exciting results.
