Mission: Global warming. Clean air. Clean water. Species extinction. We have reached a point in our history where we can no longer ignore such vital issues. As seemingly disparate as these environmental challenges seem, they all have one thing in common: the critical role of forest protection. Our forests absorb global warming pollution, filter the air we breathe and the water we drink, and provide habitat for endangered wildlife. Globally, logging (both deforestation and forest management) is responsible for approximately 25% of total anthropogenic carbon emissions. The good news is that this is a source of emissions which humans have the power to dramatically reduce.? At long last, there is a growing public awareness that dealing with such environmental issues is an urgent, immediate concern, not some far-off problem. Our work exists to channel that awareness into real-world change that protects forests. ForestEthics' mission is to protect Endangered Forests, wildlife, and human wellbeing. Our innovative, inspiring and effective campaigns challenge corporations and catalyze environmental leadership, creating solutions to protect Endangered Forests for generations to come.
Programs: Several of our programs are focused on areas that are critically in need of protection: the forests of the Sierra Nevada, the native forests of Chile, and Canada's Boreal Forest, Inland Temperate Rainforest and Great Bear Rainforest. Other programs focus on the industries that impact these forests. Our Do Not Mail Campaign is designed to create a national junk mail registry similar to the Do Not Call list. Our Paper Campaign, currently focused on the catalog industry, convinces major corporations to adopt sustainable paper policies and practices. Our Tar Sands Campaign is focused on an energy-intensive oil extraction project in Alberta that is exacerbating global warming and causing the destruction of millions of acres of forest. Finally, our Corporate Action Program plays an integral role in all of our campaigns by managing corporate relationships and leveraging corporate support.
