Mission: To promote and develop multiethnic, international arts and cultural awareness in the City of Los Angeles, and to establish programs for research and community development, providing working space and housing for artists, including traditional arts forms as well as communication technology based on computer applications.
Programs: Stage of the Arts, Inc. is engaged in conversations and activities throughout the City of Los Angeles with regard to race, ethnicity, diversity, and multiculturalism. Since founded 1982 our organization use arts and humanities as working tools in society developing centers and programs like O.G.Radiotron in MacArthur Park, the Jorge Negrete Studio Theater in East LA, Unity Arts Center/LA Photo Center in MacArthur Park; Cuban Music Festival at Echo Park, Eco Maya Festival at East Hollywood, and the Green Stage Festival at DTLA & East Hollywood. The 2017-18 performing arts program Stage of the Arts, Inc. will like to share in collaboration with the Human Relations Commission, the Cultural Affairs Department, the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission, and the Housing and Community Investment Department, are: A.-Radiotron Youth Arts Workshops. (Hip Hop new music, dance and visual arts) Formation of the YOUTH SERVICES DIVERSION CONSORTIUM (Y. S. D. C.) comprised of: INTERVENTION/PREVENTION: HELPER FOUNDATION, INC., H.U.B. HEALING URBAN BARRIOS, INC., and BARRIO ACTION YOUTH CENTER. EDUCATION: SEMILLAS DEL PUEBLO SCHOOL, and CALO YOUTH BUILD SCHOOL. ART AND CULTURE: STAGE OF THE ARTS, INC., and REEL DEAL MULTIMEDIA CENTER B.-OG Radiotron Festival. Saturday, June 23, 2018 at LA Levitt Pavilion of MacArthur Park This free annual summer festival gather a multigenerational audience of thousands celebrating the saga of rappers, brake dancing and graffiti arts, presenting in recent years headliners like Egyptian Lover, Kid Frost, Mellow Man Ace, Medusa, Chris “The Glove” Taylor, Shabba-Doo, Disco Daddy and Capt Rapp. The 2018 OG Radiotron will present as usually stablished and emerging artists sharing the stage, but this year festival is dedicated to New Works and Youth Artists. “New school” is the 2018 Festival theme. C.-Radiotron, The Musical (2018 new play to be staged 2019) This work in progress by Carmelo Alvarez is based on the real life story of iconic 1983 Radiotron Youth Center of MacArthur Park. “Radiotron” is to the West Coast like “The Get Down” is to the East Coast: the epicenter of Hip Hop as grassroots movement embracing racial and cultural diversity. Youths find art alternatives to gang banging, drugs and violence, but have to fight again real estate developers, corporate greed and governmental oblivion, to preserve their physical and social space. D.-FREE Los Tres (New 2017 playwriting to be staged July 23, 2018 at CASA 0101) This work in progress by Carmelo Alvarez is based on the real life story of Los Tres del Barrio from Casa de Carnalismo (House of Brotherhood), a community group established in 1969 to provide legal and educational services and cultural programs for residents in the Pico Gardens Housing Project. ### Eco Maya Festival, an environmental hemispheric event, connects the indigenous cultural heritage of the Americas, with the urban meca of diversity, Los Angeles. http://www.afrocuba.org/ecomaya.htm The AfroCuban Research Institute, in collaboration with the Educational Opportunity Program of California State University in LA, conducts an academic cultural exchange with Cuban artists and writers from the African Diasporas in the Caribbean. http://www.afrocuba.org El Patio de Maria, is a recreation of a Cuban paladar in Hollywood, open to the general public the first Saturday every month with multimedia lectures, poetry, art exhibitions, music and film.
