Mission: Protect, preserve, and restore the st johns river
Programs: Participated in numerous government policymaking and rulemaking initiatives to advocate for protective water quality standards, water conservation, and policies to protect and restore the health of the st. Johns river. Worked to ensure consistent compliance by permitees, sufficient enforcements by regulatory agencies, and protective conditions and requirements for npdes, cup, and erp permits. Investigated citizen complaints regarding possible violations of environmental laws and took action when necessary to ensure proper resolution. Advocated for funding and practical solutions to environmental problems impacting the health of the st. Johns river.
public awareness and education: in 2017, st. Johns riverkeepers staff and volunteers led educational boat trips for hundreds of kids and adults, helped organize river clean ups, provided school programs for schools and youth, participated in numerous community events, and provided presentations to civic and business organizations. St. Johns riverkeeper also provided educational training and program support for educators and other organizations, educated the public about how to reduce individual impacts on the river, and engaged over 100 volunteers in the execution of its advocacy and outreach programs, resulting in over 2,100 hours of volunteer service.
