Mission: St. John house for the homeless, inc. , a brooklyn based not-for-profit organization, provides outreach and spiritual/social help for homeless people and those with alcohol and drug abuse problems. The organization assists them in getting medical and social rehabilitation by referring them to the government sponsored programs in coney island hospital, staten island hospital etc. St. John is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm and is always ready to serve food, provide necessary personal care, clothing, household supplies, transportation, and in some cases little monetary assistance, as well as paying for medical expenses for individuals if necessary. In addition, st. John offers beds for a few hours of rest until an appropriate program is located for someone in need. St. John house for the homeless provides spiritual education through reading of the bible and other religious literature, video materials, group discussions, communal prayers, and trips to monasteries. During the week, approximately 85 people are served with food and 20 people are counseled. In addition, around 10 people are on the premises daily.
