I joined SGS a few years ago and was immediately taken with the incredible people and work the society does. The SGS community is passionate about the work they do and engages their members to support and volunteer with great success.
St. George's Society of New York has broadened my horizon culturally and sharpened my career skills. I would highly recommend taking full advantage of their scholarship program to any current and former scholars.

As a recently graduated St.George scholar I can say wholeheartedly the St.George Society of New York is a wonderful non-profit organization that makes a concerted and spirited effort to enrich the lives of of its beneficiaries financially, academically and socially. Ultimately setting them up for long lasting success in whatever career field they choose.
The money I received as a Scholarship recipient for St.George allowed me to focus on my studies and finish my undergrad strong, without the need to worry about tuition payments. The financial assistance in addition to the many events they hosted in honor of their scholars (as well as just in general) made my senior year at Lehman College phenomenally special despite the looming cloud of Covid-19. The friendships and contacts I made and continue to make there are both fascinating and rewarding.
Becoming a SGSNY benefactor is a wonderful opportunity to not only help aspiring CUNY students achieve their dreams but become apart of a community that is exponentially greater than the sum of it's parts!
I've been a member of The Society for over 25 years. Apart from being a great way of meeting, mixing and networking with like-minded New Yorkers, Brits and Anglophiles it's such a rewarding way of spending time on helping others.
I'm a 19 year member of this incredible charity which predates the American Revolution having been formed in 1770. Imagine doing good works for those in need for over 250 years without abatement. Our elderly beneficiaries have difficulty making ends meet, our high performing student scholarship recipients can now make a difference and we'll, our pediatric cancer beneficiaries speak for themselves. I'm overtly proud to have achieved a board seat supporting things and collaborating with a great group managing this endeavor and aligning with like minded membership.
I discovered the St. George’s Society not long after relocating to New York 18 months ago, and it quickly became an incredible asset, both personally and professionally. Moving to New York was daunting, but through SGS I found a warm, welcoming community and a sense of connection to home that I hadn’t expected to find so easily.
What sets SGS apart is its ability to balance tradition with purpose. The calendar of events is rich and thoughtfully curated- not just great socially, but also directly tied to the Society’s charitable mission. I’ve loved seeing how the funds raised support vulnerable seniors, families traveling to NYC for pediatric cancer treatments, and students at risk of not completing their education due to financial hardship.
It’s a rare thing to find a community that brings people together with such heart and intention. The small team behind SGS is incredibly dedicated, and their impact is genuinely meaningful. I’m so proud to be a supporter and board member - and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to connect, give back, and feel more at home in the city.
The St. George’s Society of New York is a fantastic organisation and I have supported them for many years. They do critical charity work in the city and look after 100 senior citizens and give scholarships to students that really need it. They also put on amazing events
Martin Ridgers, from Maidenhead UK, moved to the USA in 1985. Lived in California and New York City. Work in the insurance industry and love to work on specialty risks and hard to place risks, including with Presidents, Olympics, World Cups, Chelsea FC, Popes, F1 and many others. Found St Georges Society and I love to give back and pay it forward, so if there are small ways I can achieve this it is a happy life. I have three wonderful children, 2 boys & a girl.
Volunteered with them multiple times this year and they are a wonderful organisation with a truly worthwhile cause! I would recommend becoming a member, as alongside being part of a force for good, they host splendid social events. You will struggle to find a better nonprofit out there!
I got a scholarship from here which added a great value in my last year of undergraduate education in CityTech. Thank you so much everyone.
St George`s Society is a wonderful establishment that helps a lot of people in many areas of society. They raise money by having lots of fun events and meet & greets.
I have been a member for many years and am amazed at the dedication of the staff.
Best of luck St George!!!
I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the incredible support and opportunities I have received from the St. George Society of New York.
As a recipient of the prestigious scholarship awarded by your esteemed organization, I have experienced firsthand the profound impact you have on the lives of individuals like myself. Not only did the financial assistance help me pay off my school debt, but it also alleviated a significant burden, allowing me to focus on my studies and personal growth.
Beyond financial support, the St. George Society has been instrumental in my career development. The networking opportunities provided, opened doors that I never thought possible. The connections I made through the events and initiatives have been invaluable in my professional journey.
I would like to extend a special thanks to Jessica Simms, whose unwavering support has been a cornerstone in my career. Her guidance in job hunting and her emotional support have been pivotal in helping me reach where I am today. Jessica’s dedication and kindness reflect the very spirit of the St. George Society, and I am incredibly grateful for her assistance.
The St. George Society of New York does so much for the community, creating lasting impacts on countless lives. Your commitment to helping individuals succeed and your efforts to foster a supportive and thriving community are truly commendable. I am honored to be a part of this incredible network and will always cherish the support I have received.
St. George's Society of New York (SGSNY) is a critical charity in NY that works tirelessly to impact the quality of life for those in need - be it helping the future generation in the NY community pursue their dreams for a better future, or an older generation who need help and support battling loneliness or services, or supporting families navigate NY when they bring their children for critical cancer treatment. SGSNY is an amazing team who also creates a vibrant membership to allow NYers to help with their mission, creating a community of support while having fun! I feel privileged to be a part of this charity and urge others to join and support.
It's a wonderful non-profit with excellent altruistic programs, and it's unique that it has a membership which affords it a strong network of supporters.
We have frequented New York on numerous occasions for my son's cancer treatment at MSK. Upon arriving we are always greatly assisted by St George’s society. From Mark (fellow geordie) and Wayne transporting us to and from JFK airport and Jessica who has always been so helpful and welcoming. Our most recent trip we were greeted by Patrick and Kate who were also extremely accommodating. My boys especially loved the day organised for us at the American museum of natural history. Many thanks to the whole team at St George’s society!
St. George's Society is a longstanding charity dedicated to supporting people in need, particularly British and Commonwealth citizens living in the New York area. Founded in 1770, it provides financial assistance, educational support, and social services to individuals facing hardship or crisis. I am particularly proud to be involved as it plays a vital role in fostering community among its members and promoting British culture and traditions in New York City, as well embodying the spirit of philanthropy and compassion.
I have helped the program to assist seniors and am regularly impressed by the way in which the social workers go the extra mile to assist the beneficiaries, not just financially but with gifts and household equipment. It is a pleasure to be associated with St George’s Society.

A GRATEFUL BENEFICIARY OF ST. GEORGE’S SOCIETY
When I moved to New York 15 years ago, I had a marriage and a job, what I wasn’t prepared for was divorce, loss of work due to my age, and illness! Without the advice and financial help from St George’s I very simply don’t know what I’d have done. I’d have gone to the wrong doctors, not paid my rent, and, well, been depressed. And St George’s has “those kind” of people who are just good, helpful and genuine, helping me gradually to become the same maybe!
A friend recommended SGSNY when I lived from London to NY several years ago. I’m so glad they did! It’s been a welcoming - & diverse - community offering both fun social activities (from pub quizzes to galas) as well as several informative sessions on things every expat needs to know, eg immigration, tax etc. And all for a good cause - supporting local elderly people & scholars in need, plus UK families seeking child cancer treatment in nyc. I’ve volunteered & helped out on many occasions - do join us!!
I cannot praise St George's society of New York enough. From the first day we made contact with them they have gone above and beyond to help us and make us feel welcome in their city.
Amazing people doing amazing things.
I started volunteering with St George at the darkest point of my life. But St George held my hands, taught me many skills that helped me in securing other great opportunities and most importantly found a family amongst it. Julie, Jessica and Mary, these ladies are some of the most amazing people at St George!
It's more than money with St. George, it's the emotional support, it's the unity and true passion among its workers and members to carry other people's problems as their own. They will just go above and beyond for this. And it's the commitment to seeing that the people its helping are reaching to their full potential. I found more than a work team, I found a family, and I am forever grateful.
I've been volunteering for a few months now, and I appreciate more than ever the organization's work to support seniors in retaining their independence and providing caring social workers.
The program that provides scholarships to final-year college students is more than funds. The students get access to mentors, and specific events run by St George's for the students so they are ready for work or further studies.
I believe that St George's is an organization that never forgets that helping people emotionally is as important as financial assistance.
My experience with SGSNY has been great. I have been able to meet some many experienced professionals and grow my network through their midweek mixers. The charity allowed me to run and fundraise a marathon on their behalf in which we were able to raise over $3500. Their support in the planning played a critical role in the final outcome and smooth running of the marathon day.
St. George's Society of New York really helped me during and after college. Helping me find the right mentor for me to guide me through my career search journey. They were very generous and helped me out greatly with my tuition. The support from Jessica and the rest of the staff has been life changing.
It is a great non-profit organization, helpful, humanitarian. This organization helped me to continue my studies in my last semester in fine arts and gave me emotional support as well as financial support. They also gave me a wonderful mentor named Anna. Her advice helped me overcome my stress and depression. The organization did not leave me after my graduation, the officials especially Jessica Sims giving her best support for me, such as recommendation letters for my Masters admission and job. I am grateful to the organization and wish it’s continuous success like they helped for students success like me.
Volunteering with St. George's Society has been an absolute joy. From working in the office to assisting at events and meeting the beneficiaries of its work, I feel seen and appreciated plus experience making a difference.
St. George’s is really a lovely organization. Not only do they do the community such a wonderful service, but they bring people together in social settings to get to know their fellow New Yorkers. I have truly enjoyed getting to know them and the work they do!
Great charity, doing phenomenal work for the NYC community by helping scholars and elderly beneficiaries, as well as events for the local commonwealth community that make up the membership base.
My name is Isaac Allen-Gyimah. Lehman College Graduate, 2022.
St. George’s Society of New York saved me from almost dropping out of the Nursing School from Lehman College. This nonprofit organization supported me with a huge amount of money ($6900) during the height of Covid-19 pandemic and helped me and my family to continue my nursing school. I cannot thank them enough for this wonderful financial support and I’ll forever be grateful to them for this timely and huge help. I’m now a new registered nurse and recently got hired as a staff nurse at New York University Langone Hospital. May the sovereign lord continue to bless all those selfless donors and the wonderful team at SGSNY who made it possible for me and others to benefit from this tremendous aid.
Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you again.
The average family income for students that attend Lehman College is $30,000.00. Also, 90% of our students are eligible to receive some form of financial aid. Moreover, the vast majority of our students are the first in their families to attend college. With that being said, the financial support/ scholarships that the SGSNY, as well as the mentoring makes a huge difference in the students' lives that your organization supports.
Thank you!
I have volunteered all my life and started a few months ago at St George's Society. Everyone is extremely nice and caring. The staff and volunteers are working hard to raise funds for children and elderly people. This is truly a worthy cause and I am very happy to be able to help them make a difference in so many people's life.
It has been a special opportunity to collaborate with the team at St. George’s Society of New York (SGSNY) to provide much-needed support for our wonderful City Tech students. The SGSNY scholarship is truly generous, but it offers our students so much more than that. In addition to providing them with an extensive program of professional development opportunities, SGSNY scholars are offered access to an invaluable professional network and a lifelong sense of community. SGSNY is present. When a couple of our students encountered unforeseen challenges in the year, an all too common occurrence during the extended public health crisis, the SGSNY team was available and willing to be creative to help get them back on track. When those students crossed the commencement stage in June, the SGSNY team was right there with us cheering them on. This has been a rare and wonderful partnership, fully dedicated to ensuring our students’ success.
I had the honor of being one of St. George’s scholars. I was awarded a grant that went towards tuition for my final year at university. Along with the financial support, I was provided with numerous opportunities to network and meet great people within the St. George community.
I was assigned a personal mentor who is currently a social worker for St. George’s. Julie went from being a mentor to a friend very quickly. She helped me better understand what a social workers job entails, she also guided me on applying for a master’s degree and provided support throughout my final year.
St. George’s helped support me when I needed it most. I am so grateful to say that I was a part of such an amazing organization. They truly care about the work that they are doing and it shows! I will forever be connected with the St. George’s community!
The team at St. George's Society does an amazing job at putting on awareness-raising events that mobilize the British and Commonwealth communities in New York City, as well as other supporters. Their regular, friendly programs help keep supporters engaged and informed about the brilliant work the society does in the communities it serves and assists, including vulnerable seniors, families living with pediatric cancer, and more.
St George’s is a wonderful society that blends community and charity. I started attending their social events ten years ago but soon learned of their focus on charity.
The Society supports the elderly of New York; provides student scholarships in all five boroughs and helps British families who are visiting New York for life-saving medical treatments for their children.
The Society was founded over 250 years ago and is now stronger than ever. Please consider joining so you can attend the wide variety of events - you'll meet new friends and also support a great cause.
Brilliant small organization doing hugely impactful things for individuals and families in need in and around New York City. The nonprofit also serves as an amazingly welcoming community for Brits, international folk, Americans and friends. Finding SGSNY is truly one of the best things that’s happened to me since I moved to New York.
I discovered St George's Society shortly after I landed in NYC and quickly found a welcoming home among its members and through it's rich calendar of events, which in turn support its charitable programs: providing scholarships to final year undergraduates in danger of not graduating due to financial need; offering support to families arriving in NYC for pediatric cancer treatments, and helping vulnerable seniors. SGS has a long history of helping those in need in NYC. With a small, dedicated staff and leadership it makes a massive impact in the lives of those it supports. Very proud to supporter.
Fantastic charity, helping people in need with a smile, respect and dignity. Truly brought a community feel to New York City
St George’s is not a charity, it’s a community of incredible members coming together to do good and give back (whilst having fun at the same time).
St. George’s Society is a great nonprofit membership organization with a good mission that serves the social sector in education and at-risk elderly as well as pediatric cancer patients. I have enjoyed being a part of the organization as a member. The events are great and fun too!
The team at SGS are caring and impressive and seem to go the extra mile to help their beneficiaries.
Fantastic charity to get involved in NYC. Lots of professional networking opportunities that help raise funds for the charity. Its such a wonderful, feel good organization that provides a lot of good within the NY community. They spend a lot of time providing quality-of-life support to vulnerable seniors, protecting them from homelessness and isolation. The scholarship program really helps those low-income students gain an incredible education and the work they do for pediatric cancer patients is phenomenal.
I first started as a member of the Society many years ago primarily for the excellent events that brought people together to support and celebrate the British and Commonwealth community hear in NY. Through this, I learnt about the incredibly valuable work the society does to provide support to those in our community that are in need, including elderly beneficiaries that struggle to make ends meeting, students in need of support to gain an education, and other acts of kindness such as support for visiting cancer patients and emergency loans. Consequently, I wanted to do more and became a Board member and continue to be impressed by the dedication and delivery of the Society team and the contribution the Society makes to the NY area.
St George's Society of New York is a perfect blend of an organization supporting a community in need balanced with a community/network where friendships and business connections are made. After 250 years of helping others, the focus of supporting seniors, families visiting NYC for pediatric cancer care and scholars means that it does so much good for so many.
I have been involved with the St. George's Society of New York for many years now. It is a very well run nonprofit organisation with some amazing charitable programs. A Beneficiary Program providing financial and quality-of-life support to vulnerable seniors, a Scholarship Program providing financial aid and professional development to low-income final year students at CUNY colleges, and a Weatherstone Families Support Fund that provides assistance to families affected by pediatric cancer. Impactful and transformational programs. And being founded in 1770 it is one of the oldest most established nonprofits in NY/US.
I’ve been a member of St. George’s Society for a few years now, and also serve on the Board. The impact the society continues to make, to such a diverse group of individuals and families, is unparalleled. Whether it is helping families of pediatric cancer patients receive treatment and accommodation, providing scholarships to underprivileged youths from commonwealth countries, or helping local seniors in NYC, the list goes on. Members, volunteers and friends alike are all passionate about our mission, giving back, and have grown to become not just friends, but extended family.
I have been a supporter of the St. George's Society of New York for over 20 years. Their Mission fit's my giving criteria. They were founded in 1750 and have been helping elderly New Yorker's live their lives more comfortably ever since. They also have a terrific Scholarship program with CUNY which supports 4th year students who are in financial difficulties. Am proud to support them and their Mission.
