For over 25-years, the St. Francis Center's mission has been to serve the low-income in our community with "Compassion not Judgment". I began as a volunteer in the clothing "store" at the Center over 4 years ago, where I sorted clothing, bedding and linens one morning per week along with a wonderful group of seasoned volunteers. Before long, I became more involved with the fundraising aspects and administrative end of this non-profit. I continue to be profoundly moved by the variety of FREE services that are provided by this non-denominational organization: take home food program, clothing, shower and laundry facility, rental assistance, holiday toy give-away program, low-income housing, re-homing of children's books and toys, computer classes for adult women, mother and child literacy program (Holy Family School), ESL, GED for men and women, classes to establish a business plan and budget for new businesses, community garden family plots, and immigration services. In addition, the Center opened the Siena Youth Center, a new community gym, in 2011 to provide at-risk kids with a safe place to be tutored, mentored and participate in sporting activities as a positive alternative to the ever-present influence of street-gangs where they live. This amazing, well-run non-profit is not funded by the Archdiosese, so please consider a donation in support of the Center's mission. Volunteers in the food room, clothing store, and tutors are always welcome, as well.
