We had a great time . Work load spread out . ( not that much work ) . Working with Bill and all the volunteers was fun enjoyable . As were the " guests "
Thank you so very much St. Augustine Beach Civic Association!! As a resident of St. Augustine Beach, we are so grateful for all of the programs and activities you have provided to our community over the years. You have offered multiple venues for people to get involved at the beach. The Music By The Sea is wonderful and having local restaurants participate is another community connection. As an employee of the Betty Griffin Center and beneficiary of Taste of the Beach, we appreciate your continued support and generosity to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. You have helped thousands of women, children and men with emergency safe shelter, legal advocacy for injunctions for protection, assistance at the Rape Care Unit, counseling and education. One of the survivors recently shared " you saved our lives...this was the first time in two years my child and I had a safe place to rest our heads. Thank you!"

The St. Augustine Beach Civic Association is an exceptional charity that keeps the community at the forefront of its objectives. The organization raises money and organizes a summertime concert series that's very popular among residents and tourists alike.
SABCA organizes and raises money for another fantastic charity, the Betty Griffin Center through the Taste of St. Augustine Beach. All money from this goes to support victims of domestic violence and their minor children.
For many years, the SABCA organized and hosted a farmer's market adding grassroots economic development to our then sleepy town. Anytime there's a need, the SABCA helps to fill it. It's an all-volunteer effort by outstanding leaders in our community.

Thank you St. Augustine Beach Civic Association! Your organization is a wonderful community member and supports our small beach town in so many ways. A few examples include free Music by the Sea concerts, sponsorship of the wonderful New Year's Eve Beach Blast Off, financial assistance to give bikes and helmets to kids at the local National Night Out event, the funding of flags for our street crossings which has helped numerous pedestrians cross the street safely, and support for our local domestic violence shelter - the Betty Griffin Center. What an asset to our community! I truly appreciate all that the board members and volunteers do through the St. Augustine Beach Civic Association to make St. Augustine Beach a safe, exciting place to live.

For the last 17 years the St Augustine Beach Civic Association has produced a free concert series to help attract tourists to our community. We started going to these shows when we were tourists back in 2003. We met great people and then decided to relocate here. I've lived on several states in my adult life and have never found anything quite like Music by the Sea. It's a melting pot of people where tourists and locals alike can picnic, dance and make friends! We also like the variety of music that is offered over the course of the summer. Already this summer there has been a Salsa Night, R & B Night and in June we're going to see Peter Karp. Mr. Karp happens to be one of the best slide guitar players in the world. This program is good for the hotels, local restaurants and for the community! Role: Client Served

This all volunteer organization has been proactive and creative in the areas of community service, tourism and public safety. Crosswalk flags to keep pedestrians safe on our busy boulevard were purchased for the City by the Civic Association. The group also bought water safety gear for all of the City's twenty police officers. Over the last 15 years, SABCA has made financial contributions to the local library, Friends of Anastasia State Park and many local charitable groups. The Civic Association is also a longtime supporter of our local Domestic Violence Shelter, The Betty Griffin Center (see photo) Kudos go out to this group that makes a big difference in our community

Great Wednesday night concerts with local restaurant fare for sale-- good fun during warm weather months. BUT there appears to be a culture of secrecy. There is little or no transparency as to income and spending, including contributions. Form 990 and experience reveal that the same SABCA directors elected and re-elected every single year. Very autocratic governance. SABCA arbitrarily refused to renew the memberships of at least two longtime SABCA members who are concerned about financial accountability and government issues. SABCA allegedly abused its political clout to elect and defeat several City of St. Augustine Beach City Commission candidates (including electing to SAB Commission two longtime SABCA board members, Andrea Samuels and S. Gary Snodgrass). SABCA allegedly abused its political clout to defeat reform St. Johns County Commission Chairman Ken Bryan, who stood in its way and prevented further questionable contributions of tens of thousands of bed tax dollars without transparency. Careful scrutiny is urgently needed in the New Year. Scrutiny is required by SABCA members, funders, regulators and news media. SABCA should no longer be run as a dictatorship, e.g., by one married political couple & their friends & political and commercial allies. Board members should rotate. There must be full financial disclosure of all expenditures. SABCA membership must be open to all -- rejection of members is unAmerican and unfair.
