One of our officers was shot and critically injured during a recent stand off. The officer's life was saved because one of his fellow SWAT team had a tourniquet (that he had paid for out of his own pocket) to save the life of the injured officer. Following this incident, we were determined to provide each officer a tourniquet. As with other law enforcement agencies, our budget is extremely tight and funds for this purchase were not available. We made our request to The Spirit of Blue Foundation, they saw our need and stepped into help. Not only were we able to get enough tourniquets to make sure every officer on patrol and special teams had one, but they also provided straps to use with them.
An outstanding group that focuses on the safety and security of the ones who are on the front line protecting our towns and cities everyday.

Our city incurred a major incident in which two police officers were wounded in what started out to be an armed carjacking attempt. The officers were able to return fire and fatally wound the suspect. As tensions were already high across the nation as a result of many high profile cases, our city was no different, however the police department was totally ill equipped to respond to the potential civil disorder. After our original application was approved, adjustments were made to get us the needed equipment. Within 30 days the equipment was ordered, shipped, and delivered to our department. Spirit of Blue Foundation facilitated this order with great efficiency and ease. We are deeply indebted to them.
This group was able to provide funding for 2 patrol rifles that will provide protection for Officers as they work, the people of the Community and guest that may be visiting. This group has been a pleasure to work with and I would highly recommend them to other agencies looking for funding to help with safety initiatives.
New Middletown Village Police Dept is a small Municipal Agency with 10 officers. (4 Full and 6 part time officers) of the Full time officers, three are over the age of 45yrs and a concern is always the health and immediate response if an Officer suffers a heart attack. Statistics show that many officers can suffer heart attacks during training or after a stenuous event. NMPD aplied for a AED and was graciously awarded an AED from the Spirit of Blue Foundation. The application process and working with Ryan was a rewarding experience. The AED is now part of the daily equipment on patrol for immediate deployment if needed for an officer involved incident or response to a medical emergency within the community. The officers are grateful for the award of the AED and I personally strongly enourage other agences to speak with the Foundation and become a advocate for officer safety.
