Mission: The mission of the spina bifida association of central florida is to promote the prevention of spina bifida and to enhance the lives of all affected.
Programs: Sbacfls members include individuals with spina bifida and their families, medical professionals, and the local community. Sbacfl hosts various playdates and support group meetings for our families in multiple locations throughout central florida. These playdates allow children to get to know each other and provide a great opportunity for parents to be with other parents facing similar struggles.
sbacfl makes scholarships available to members for emergency financial assistance, campership, medical reimbursement, and attending the national conference hosted by the spina bifida association every two years. The emergency financial assistance scholarship assists families that need financial support with unexpected and/or burdensome costs directly related to caring for an individual with spina bifida. Sbacfl has established a medical reimbursement assistance fund to be disbursed to sbacfl families that need assistance with uninsured medical expenses such as co-pays, medical supplies, adaptive equipment, and therapy directly related to caring for an individual with spina bifida. The campership scholarships were created to encourage families to enroll individuals with spina bifida in community-based recreational activities. The sbacfl offers individuals living in our service area a $400 camp/recreation program and special event scholarship.
sbacfl communicates to its members via online email communication, group texts, and through providing information on its website. Information about our events and other resources are included in our group emails and website. A calendar of events is mailed to all members. Save-the-date postcards announcing our sbacfl education day event were developed and mailed to members. Sbacfl makes the education day save-the-date and informational brochures available to members of the public.
