I have been volunteering at the Spencer Penn Centre over the last year since my retirement. I have been overwhelmed by the sense of community and the fellowship that takes place in the building. The staff is so welcoming I have felt like family since I walked in the door. Volunteering at the Spencer Penn Centre has given me a new purpose and really makes me feel like I am making a difference in people's lives in my community.

Spencer-Penn Centre was formed in 2004 when the former school was closed due to consolidation. The band of former students, community residents and others formed a private nonprofit corporation and bought the property. Since then the building has been placed on the National Registry of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks List. The building has been renovated to serve the community as an education and special events center. It also houses a community library and a Tech Lab. Rooms of different sizes are available for rent to individuals and businesses. A beautiful historic facility with the rural setting to make any event from a wedding to a business retreat memorable.
