While I have volunteered for Special Olympics Connecticut, I do not feel that their fundraising company is ethical. I resent receiving "We Miss You" mail -- twice in one week! -- when I just donated 2 months ago! Moreover, the amount that I was invited to "give again" was double my donation. Now, I can see why my "2022 donation" notation on my check may not have been noted, but two lies about my giving is enough. I want my money to go toward programs, not to mailings.
This will be my family's 10th year volunteering for Special Olympics CT; we do not have a special needs child so this is not because we'd be there anyway. What SOCT does is very worthwhile. You can SEE the results in the faces, minds and bodies of the "athletes" of ALL ages. That day, morning or afternoon with helping hands and minds reminds us how lucky we are, particularly when working with athletes ages 25-80. I agree that the outside fundraising companies can be aggressive; you have to watch for multiple calls and "pledge" mailings. BUT remembering to track your monetary contributions paid is a small amount of time in supporting this evolving in a good way organization. It's not just "sports," health, friendship and camaraderie among athletes and volunteers are key components.

I believe the organization that does the print and tele fundraising for this Special Olympics CT is unethical. For 3 years in a row- after my company has donated following an outreach- we receive another donation form (email and print) with the same pledge amount indicated. This has caused us to contribute 3 times in one year and it is not apparent until we do our taxes at year end.
This year we contributed in February only to be re-solicited in May.
Keep track of your donations if you choose to support Special Olympics CT monetarily.
