As a SPARC-Hope volunteer and donor, I have seen firsthand the love and care given to single parents in Louisville, KY and the surrounding counties. Assistance specifically for single parents is very hard to come by, especially for single moms. I have personally witnessed the relentless prayer, long hours, dedication and energy given by this small but mighty nonprofit as they go to many lengths to meet the needs necessary to assist their beloved clients. For those single parents fully participating in the Life Plan Program, no need is too small to address if it will alleviate a financial, educational, or food burden for the family. The on-campus Food Pantry has been especially beneficial as it allows single parents in the Life Plan Program to “shop” for food essentials including meat and fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as toiletries, cleaning products, and even gifts for birthdays & other special occasions. The Food Pantry is also accessible to single parents not in the Life Plan Program on a limited quarterly basis. SPARC-Hope also has many wonderful partnerships within the community to provide numerous other resources for their single parents — invaluable for supporting and building clients up. Life Plan Program clients are required to be attending institutes of higher learning and graduates have become lawyers, psychologists, nurses, trades people and more, giving back to SPARC-Hope and to the community. Children of clients are also going into institutes of higher learning! SPARC-Hope is a worthy nonprofit succeeding in making a difference in the lives of single parents and their families and in seeking to impact more. I have been blessed to play a small role in this endeavor! (Photo: Executive Director, Laura Wingfield)Submitted by: (Mrs.)Tari Reynolds
I recently attended a graduation party for the spring graduates and it was so inspiring! Sparc Hope meets each of the participants where they are and supports them as they improve their lives and their family's. From rent assistance, food, clothing, and budgeting tips, they do everything they can to help the families. This non-profit organization is a nice reminder that people do care, you just have to find the right ones!
It is so inspiring to see the difference SPARC makes in single parent's lives, and their children. It's more than a food pantry, and assistance with budgeting, these angels spread confidence and encouragement that there is God-centered help out there to lift them up and help them create a better life for their family. It is an honor to serve on the board of this local organization.
As a new board member of SPARC Hope, I’m honored to support a mission I believe in with my whole heart — walking alongside single parents as they work to build brighter futures through education and support.
I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact this organization has. Single moms and dads who once felt stuck are now graduating, starting careers, and showing their children what’s possible. The ripple effect on their families is powerful and lasting.
SPARC Hope doesn’t offer handouts — they offer hope and the tools to create lasting change. And it works.
If you’re looking to make a difference, I invite you to join me. Your support could help a parent graduate, stabilize their family, and inspire a whole new generation.
✨ Follow and support @sparc_hope — because when a parent rises, a family rises with them.

I am so grateful that Sparc Hope exists in our community. The focus on wrap around services is refreshing and families who are served can truly rely on Sparc's encouragement and support. The relational and personal touches make an impact especially in a day when so much is done through typing - the frequent phone calls and catching up in-person at a pantry visit show single parents that they are not alone. Our city is better because of nonprofits like Sparc and the impact they are making!
SPARC-Hope is an amazing organization! SPARC-Hope has made a huge difference in the lives of single parents and their children. This nonprofit is very well-run, the staff is very dedicated, and the volunteers are a wonderful group of people who care for these single parents. SPARC-Hope's transparency and efficiency are also commendable, making it easy to trust and financially support this mission. The Programs are incredibly impactful, and I can see why donors give of their time and money to help make a real difference in the lives of SPARC's single parents. If you are looking for a nonprofit to get involved with and help support, then SPARC-Hope is the answer.
SPARC Hope does amazing work to support single parents. From a massive food pantry to rent assistance to gas cards to financial education, they've really thought of everything needed to support their clients and help them succeed. Our community is a better place because SPARC Hope is in it!
Sparc Hope is an amazing nonprofit organization. They provide so much for Single Mothers in the Louisville area. Their goal is to provide resources and opportunity to these amazing single parents who need a stepping-stone on the road to improving both their own and their children's lives. An absolutely wonderful and necessary organization, one of the best! ~ Jackie Hancock
I have been familiar with Sparc Hope for many years and have particpated in various events as a volunteer. I absolutely love their mission and willingness to help single parents in all aspects of life!
I LOVE this place because of 3 things: 1. All it does for Single Parents 2. How they treat everyone who walks in the door 3. The teammates I get to work with. Sparc Hope helps single parents celebrate each milestone, challenges them to fiscal responsibility and provides groceries, home goods, clothing, classes, mentors, financial advisors and even connections to honest mechanics. Diapers, birthdays, holiday meals and gifts and so much more! They treat everyone with respect and dignity, whether and old friend or someone they've just me and the atmosphere is fun, positive and results-oriented! Seriously, volunteering there has been a godsend for me! Finally, the people I get to volunteer with are so interesting, hard working, and have been so welcoming and kind!!!! It is so cool to learn that a volunteer used to be an executive or a scientist or a single mom who's raised 4 kids of her own!
This organization is truly amazing! Single-parents are equipped with the resources to get ahead in life and therefore change the future of their children for the better!
Sparc Hope has helped me tremendously. My friend who’s also in the group recommended it to me because she knows I’m having a rough time financially and I’ve only had one pantry visit so far and I was amazed and almost started crying. I can’t thank them enough!
Sparc Hope has been an amazing non profit to partner with! The love and genuine care they have for single moms and dads is incredible. The way they come along side single parents is a blessing to be apart of. So thankful for the opportunity to know this organization and the people who work here.
Being a single mother to one child is hard and even harder in today's economy. I ended up having another baby and hard times turned even harder. I make pretty good money but couldn't afford everything especially with everything up two or three dollars. I am a full-time mom, a full-time student and work a full-time job and it wasn't enough. I filled out all the paperwork for food stamps and was told with a three-person household I made too much money to get assistance. I thankfully was able to get childcare assistance but just barely. Without food stamps it was really hard trying to purchase the basic necessities just to survive. I bought as much as I could afford and fell behind on bills to pay for food and gas because going to work and feeding my family was more important.
A friend of mine who is also in the program and that I work with told me about this organization. I filled out the initial application and got an interview. I brought in all the necessary paperwork and went through the interview process with Laura and Chelsea. They are some of the greatest women I've ever met. The kindness and compassion these women showed me and were so understanding of how someone could do their best and still fall on hard times.
I was able to visit the pantry and get food items, diapers and wipes the same day. I was a great weight off my shoulders knowing I had found some place to be in my corner to help me and my girls out. I have only been at this place for 3 weeks and already they have helped me out so much and continue to help us. This is the best place ever. Everyone is amazing!!
I was a part of this program for quite some time. Within that time I was able to complete my associate's degree as well as my Personal Training certification. I cannot express how much this program means to me and my family! I wouldn't be where I am today without them.
Sparc comes along side single parents to make higher education and a career achievable. And the kids of these hard working single parents get to see the success and pride that comes from their parent achieving their goals. That builds generational change. I love that part.
A young single lady at my company is about to give birth and had nothing she needed for a new baby. She did not qualify for their program. They were still nice enough to give her four boxes of stuff to help her out.
Sparc Hope gives their clients support when they feel like giving up or life challenges are just to hard to handle. They help them through various different ways, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Their clients know they can rely on Sparc Hope to follow through on what they need. It is exciting to see how successful their clients become after going through the program for both them and their children.
I've been working with SPARC Hope for the last six months and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our supporters, board and staff. Helping single moms and dads navigate work, children and school is a wonderful resource for these hard-working parents. I've also been moved by the pride their children take in their hard work and determination to complete a degree. We're not only giving a 'hand up' to the parents, but to their children as well. I'm excited to see what additional funding can do as we attempt to grow the number of single parents we can add to our program.
I am a 36 year old single Christian mother of 2. As I started pursuing college I had no ideal how u would survive financial as I tried to studied and make good grades. God opened the door to sparc hope. They have taken the stress of my financial burden as well as went above and beyond. From purchasing my children's halloween costumes, school shoes, Christmas presents. As well as fully furnished my new apartment. All of this because I am a single mother attending college. Thank you sparc hope I can't wait to be on the other side and donate. I am forever indebted to your program. Reachback.
Sparc Hope is such a great non-profit. When I came to them, everyone was so nice and willing to help. From the unlimited pantry visits from just doing what they can to help single mothers. I recently had surgery and Sparc Hope was a life saver and they made sure I was ok and didn't have to struggle with anything after the fact. They are really out here helping and changing lives of single mothers that are in school. So glad I am able to be apart of this wonderful program.
They have been a blessing to me and my family. As a single mother with resources Spare hope has bridge the gap for me and made situations. Being a full-time student and mother can be hard but at any time I can call them and I have a need and they will meet my knee which is amazing. I’m very blessed to have this team in my life. It truly takes a village to raise kids, but also to support moms as well.
I volunteer weekly at Sparc Hope and am so impressed by the staff and volunteers who work with the single parents and their children. Each family is provided support, encouragement and respect as they participate in the program. Sparc Hope walks every step of the way with parents as they work toward a better future through education and employment.
I have three babies. My oldest is three and my twins are one. Sparc hope has helped me when I couldn’t help myself. There has been many of times, where I called in and always got what I asked for. I’m so blessed and honored to be in such a great program. If I was never introduced to this program I would be lost with my three babies. I will forever be grateful for them. I pray the avid continue to give these great people strength and encouragement to help us mothers who need the help. Thank you and may God bless you all.
As a Single mom of 3 I can’t thank Sparc Hope enough. Through my most troubling times and struggles I could say that they have always been by my side. They are so caring, and supportive and have the best program for single moms and dads who are trying to pursue their education and provide for their families.
My name is Debbie and I'm a volunteer at Sparc Hope. Usually I help in the food pantry, but will help wherever there is a need. I enjoy volunteering here as it is helping our clients get the help they need to succeed in life. We get help so the clients and their children can enjoy all the holidays without worry. I feel it's a wonderful place to help give back to our community
Sparc Hope is an amazing nonprofit organization. They have a huge heart for Single Parents in the Kentuckiana area. Their goal is to provide various resources to help these Single Parents build a better life for themselves and their children.
This is one of the best non-profits to get behind and support because every donation directly helps both single parents and their children. If you are a single parent struggling who wants to work and get an education, they make it possible! If you’re reading this and are considering becoming a client, please don’t be embarrassed or hesitate! The staff isn’t judgmental and they work so hard for their clients. From their resources, to their food pantry, the staff does it because they genuinely love it and believe in everything this non-profit stands for. You should hear the testimonies of their previous clients and see how far they have gone in their lives with the helping hands of Sparc Hope.

Those years are going to go by regardless, so align yourself with people and organizations that believe in you, and support your dreams for the future!
I love Sparc hope and what it stands for! Love that there is a place for single parents to get a hand up and able to fulfill their dreams with the help of SPARC hope!
I started volunteering weekly at Sparc Hope after I retired from teaching. I wanted to work with single parents, children and education. Sparc Hope was the perfect fit.
No other charity like it In Louisville! I was a single Mother. I wish they had been around when I was raising my boys.
I have been involved with SPARC-Hope for many years. I started out on staff but even after I left, I have continued to volunteer for several years. They have a beautiful mission and I feel blessed that I have been able to witness SPARC-Hope make a difference in the lives of many families.
I love that they are not just a hand out, but a hand up, to single parents and their families.
"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a life time."
At SPARC-Hope, they walk a long side single parents as far as they go in school, and then for 6 months after they graduate. They are "teaching them how to fish". They do everything they can to set them up for success. And the best part, these parents can then teach their children how to fish. Breaking the cycle. It is a beautiful thing
Sparc-Hope’s mission and service to single parents, to assist them to achieve their dreams through education and employment, drew me to become a volunteer. I have been volunteering at Sparc Hope for the last month and I am more impressed every day. Every single client is treated as very important and everyone at Sparc Hope goes out of their way to ensure each client understands someone is walking with them through their journey. Assistance, support and understanding is only a phone call away.
From my first moment reading up and meeting the staff at Sparc Hope, I was hooked! As a former single parent I completely understand the need for a program such as this, wish this was available 30 years ago!
Both the staff and volunteers are truly blessings to the community, you feel the passion, love and commitment that they have for the work and more importantly the clients. This is a place and space that deserves all the help it can get, the work they do is helping families keep their heads above water while fulfilling their educational aspirations to make a better future for themselves and their children.
Truly an amazing organization
I can't say enough about how much mom's closet changed not only my life but also my children's. Mrs Sheila and all the ladies are truly heaven sent. It was times I felt defeated and didn't think I could make it and would call and talk to Mrs Kim or Mrs Sheila who gave me encouragement to keep going. I don't know what I would have done without them and I am so very grateful God placed them in our lives. Even though it's been years since we were in the program, I still talk about it today like it was yesterday because it was so life changing. I pray God continues to bless Mrs Sheila and this wonderful program. The Page Family
Mom's Closet changed my life. When I discovered Mom's Closet I was just starting work on my dream to go to nursing school. I was at a time in my life when I felt as if it were me against the world. Being the single mother of 2 young children is a very hard situation. Without any support from their father I was finding myself falling further and further in debt. Many of the agencies that offered assistance to single mothers often made me feel as if I were a disgrace to the community because I couldn't afford to raise my children without help. By sheer accident I came across a brochure about Mom's Closet. I decided to see what help they might offer. On the day of my appointment I readied myself for the usual looks of disgust and tried to prepare myself for the shame I thought I would feel after leaving there. To my surprise, Sheila, Kim and the other workers there made me feel like I was in fact someone special. They reminded me that my focus to better my life for the sake of my children would be the driving force behind my success. They showed me that I was a good person and reminded me that it "takes a village to raise a child." I think above everything else, they reminded me that I am a child GOD that deserves happiness. That means more than anything to a person that is close to giving up. After I was accepted into their program, the support didn't stop at the door and was not just from a financial stand point. Many times I called Sheila and Kim just to hear a friendly word and to get the extra offer of encouragement that they always had for me. They helped me keep food in my children's tummies as I struggled through the long days and hours of nursing school. They provided a wonderful Christmas for my children and me and even took time to throw in little special events that gave me opportunities to do things with my kids I could never otherwise have afforded. Throughout my time in this program and even well after graduating nursing school, the ladies and gentleman of Mom's Closet remained a big part of my life. It has been over 4 years now since I graduated. I never hesitate to try and pass on the story of what Mom's Closet has done for me. No other organization could be more loving and GOD centered than the workers at Mom's Closet. These people dedicate their time and their hearts to show single mothers of Kentucky that GOD does indeed have a plan for them and they are not alone. Without them, I may have given up on my dreams of becoming a nurse. But thanks to them and to GOD above, I was able to find strength to push forward and become the nurse and mother that I am today. May GOD bless every person that walks through the door of Mom's Closet and all those who donate their time and money to see that this program continues.
Watching the lives of mothers and kids change is a blessing. One day in an interveiw a boy about 11 years old was asked what would he like to have!! He stated that he would like to have meat to eat. He and his mom had not had meat in about 8 months. Bringing them in to the food pantry for food was like watching a child get a new bike, only it was 4 pounds of ground meat and a package of chicken. He carried the bag of meat out the door as we stood there crying and smiling!
19 years ago I was a single mother with two small boys. I would have loved to have had a resource like Mom's Closet to help me. Women who are going to school, working, and raising children alone are pulled in so many different directions, sometimes they just need encouragement to keep going and realize their dreams of being able to support themselves and their family without assistance. Mom's Closet Resource Center, Inc. does just that. They are a help up to these women, not just a hand out. The director of the program Kim Jacobs, takes the time to get to know each of the women and her children that are in the program. She offers her friendship not just financial help. Sheila Day the president and COO is not just a figure head, she is at the Center daily and works along side Kim and all the other volunteers.
I am proud to be a weekly volunteer and a board member of Mom's Closet. We are continuing to grow and add more women and children to our program, that shows that women are looking to education as a way out of desperate situations, and that through hard work and dedication they can better the lives of their children. Mom's Closet has restored my faith in what can be achieved when people care about each other.
What a blessing Mom's Closet has been to single mom's in our area. On the front of our brochure it says...Changing the future of Kentucky's kids one mom at a time....I have watched over the past seven to eight years the lives that have been changed due to the assistance these moms receive from the center. They are taught about accountability, but with love. They receive assistance where they run short each month, either by assisting with utilities, gasoline, or even just trips to the food pantry. When these mom's become a part of the Life Plan at MCRC, they become part of our family. We help with Thanksgiving, Christmas, back to school. Any of those "extras" that can throw someone off track, and, sometimes it seems like you can't get a break to get back on track. We have seen so many success stories as these women graduate and move on to get good jobs to be able to continue to support their families. And we haven't even begun to talk about the difference it makes in the lives of these kids. To be able to have some of the basics that we take for granted, and to get a little extra every now and then. Simply amazing! Sheila always says...we are not a hand out, we are a hand up!
I have watch women come thur the doors of Mom Closet Center as a women of defeat and after they are in the program at Mom's Closet these women actually become hard working, wonderful women and give back to their communities. If a women is in need they will direct her to an agency where she might find assistance for you speical need.
The food pantry helps women actually feed thier childern. Every mother that I have been in contact at the center is so thankful for the women who run the center on a dailyl bases.
