Mission: Founded in Colorado Springs in 1983, the Space Foundation is the world's premier organization to inspire, educate, connect, and advocate on behalf of the global space community. We are a nonprofit leader in space awareness activities, educational programs, and major industry events, including the annual Space Symposium to be held each April.
Programs: Space Foundation impact is felt locally, nationally and around the globe through a cadre of principal programs: ● Space Foundation’s Education programs annually serve more than 100,000 students and teachers throughout the United States and around the world through in-person and virtual programs in some of the most unique learning labs in the world. ● Through teacher professional development courses and offerings and Teacher Liaison Program, Space Foundation supports and impacts teachers globally through best-practice instruction, and community building and support. ● Each year over 40,000 people are inspired and informed about the importance of space through the Space Foundation Discovery Center, a world-class education epicenter and tourist destination located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The region's first and only dedicated space, science and technology center and museum, on a state, national and international level, Discovery Center is a leader in the preservation, interpretation and display of space-related artifacts and exhibits as well as a dynamic creator of space-inspired content for wide audiences. Through a diverse offering of in-person and virtual education programs, exhibits and community outreach, the Discovery Center is an inspiring gathering place and advocate for STEM education. ● Space Foundation’s Research & Analysis, provides factual, credible information and analysis about the space industry for policymakers, media, educators and individuals through white papers, forums, and its annual publication, The Space Report: The Authoritative Guide to Global Space Activity. ● Through its Public Policy and Government Affairs, Space Foundation conducts a broad range of programs to educate policymakers about the complex space-related topics that they must address and to ensure the industry is well-informed on critical space policy issues. ● Build awareness of the benefits of space through its Space Certification™ program, which demonstrates how space technologies improve life on Earth and makes space more interesting and accessible to everyone. ● The Space Technology Hall of Fame program increases public awareness of the benefits of space exploration by recognizing technologies originally developed for space that have been adapted to improve the quality of life for all humanity. ● The Space Symposium is known as the premier space policy and program forum and "must attend" opportunity for information on and interaction among all sectors of space. In 2019, the 35th Space Symposium had over 15,000 participants from more than 25 countries. ● The Space Commerce program promotes business growth into space-based technology markets, especially for minority, women and veteran-owned businesses, by providing key insights that address the most common challenges in establishing or expanding within space-related industries. ● Space Foundation represents the US at the United Nations on the Committee for the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS). This unique position allows the Space Foundation to establish and foster international relationships among countries, and has placed the Space Foundation in a position of respect among the world’s space agencies.
