Mission: Our mission is to provide a gateway to creating healthy, confident, well-rounded children who will become successful, productive adults.
Results: Since its inception, SYS has grown from serving 100 youth from the months of May through October to serving over 400 youth year-round. During the year; a typical football and cheer/dance home game (four to five during the eight-week season) have over 300 parents and supporters attend; with the basketball team having over 200 on a weekly basis; finally, our boxing bouts have had over 1,000 people in attendance. Following are some more successes for Shively Seminoles Football League and Louisville Select Boxing: In 2015 the Pee Wees, aged eight through nine, of the Shively Seminoles achieved perfection (15-0). In that year they won the Louisville Youth Football League championship, King of the City tournament and River City Rumble tournament. The Mighty Mites, aged five through seven, finished 14-1, taking their division in the LYFL and Rumble. Both teams have been invited to play in the National Prep Football Academy Southeast Tournament in Conyers, Ga. In 2017 the Mighty Mites won the North Division Championship. Some of the accolades for Louisville Select Boxing include but are not limited to Junior Olympic Champion Boxers, Silver Glove, Golden Glove, and Ringside World Champions. In 2018
Target demographics: Through teaching the game of football, boxing, and basketball, as well as the art of cheerleading and dance; SYS is providing positive adult interaction.
Direct beneficiaries per year: In 2017 we helped server over 300 children in our Football, Dance, and Boxing League.
Geographic areas served: Southwest Youth Sports, Inc. (SYS) is a not for profit 501(c )(3) organization as recognized by the IRS. The program was developed in 2008 to address the needs of the Shively and Louisville community to have a youth sports program.
Programs: Our current programs are Shively Seminoles (football, cheer, dance, basketball) and Louisville Select Boxing. However, as we continue to get financial funding we look to expand to other sports programs as well as education and development programs. Also, with SYS having a proven track record for being active for ten years in the community, they are now ready to set their sights on the next level: to provide a “haven” for children by having a youth and community center in Southwest Louisville, KY. With this “haven” our children will finally have a place where all of the sports can be housed in a common area. This will also give the youth, parents, volunteers, and the community a sense of pride in having a place they can call their own. SYS is starting a Capital Fund to purchase 7.5 acres on 4205 Cane Run Road that was formerly the St. Denis Church Complex. The property costs 2.5 million dollars and includes; a football field, gym, kitchen, cafeteria, classrooms, all-purpose room, conference room, computer room, garage, and a concession stand. To cover costs for the purchase of the property, repairs and employing eight employees (for at least two years) our Capital Fund Goal at this time is 4.5 million dollars. Finally, our vision for the community center will be a place where youth can go for development, inclusion or just for fun. Through the center, not only will we be able to house sports activities such as football, cheer, dance, boxing, and basketball; we also want to offer behavior counseling, career counseling, workshops, tutoring, and other personal development activities. Unlike your typical centers, where the focus is only on youth, our future plans are to expand our mission to help adults as well.
