Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Human Services, Neighborhood Centers

Mission: Founded in 1985 by I.T. Bookman, a member of the neighboring Pilgrim Community Church, and largely supported by the Church and it's members, the I.T. Bookman Community Center was built on the foundation of a communal need for multipurpose space within the community, with the purpose of embracing the needs of the surrounding Oceanview, Merced Heights, and Ingleside neighborhoods and serving it's residence better. Today, known for its partnerships with the Stonestown YMCA and Department of Aging and Adult Services, the staff at I.T. Bookman Community Center continue to work to develop and manage quality activities and programs targeted to all age groups in the surrounding communities, creating an atmosphere within the Center that encourages positive growth through the use of the facility for civic and private activities and events.

The organization lacks structure in some components and competent leadership. The program is a bit questionable in terms of the motives, results and interests of the children it serves.
