Mission: The southview elementary parent teacher organization's primary purpose is to a. Continually improve communication between home and school. B. Encourage total community involvement in the learning experiences at southview elementary school. C. Continue to generate funds for the pto in order to purchase materials and equipment at southview elementary school. D. Responsibly manage and distribute pto funds that support and enhance both the social and learning environments at school.
Programs: Line 28 grants to southview elementary - various grants for books, equipment, supplies, services, student field trip busing, safety patrol equipment and training, and artist-in-residence workshop fees. All students benefitted from the enhanced learning and social environment.
line 29 yearbook - a program where volunteers compile a yearbook of students, staff and special events photos for the year. The book is published and sold to students and staff at cost, enhancing the social environment of the school.
line 30 toolkits - a program where families have the option of purchasing school supplies for their student(s) at a slight discount and having it shipped directly to the school. The program is a courtesy to help families and to enhance the learning and social environment.

Room parties - a program where volunteers plan, coordinate and execute three classrooms parties per school year, with games, crafts and snacks. Total expenses = $2267 b. Scholarship - a grant given to one graduating senior from a minnesota isd 196 high school, with plans to pursue a post-secondary education and was a former southview elementary student as selected by a committee through an application process. Total expenses=$2000. All $2000 was the award. C. Rewards and incentives - a program where staff members are reimbursed for the purchase of items or events used to reward or incentivize students to reach an educational goal. Total expenses = $1058 d. Buzz book - a program where volunteers compile a student directory of all students with parent permission. The book is published and sold at cost to student families and staff. Total expenses = $342 e. Bingo night - a fun community event offering free bingo with novelty toy or candy prizes. Refreshments are offered at cost or free. This event is open to the entire community, in an attempt to encourage community involvement in the local school. Total expenses=$509 f. Popcorn days - a program where bags of popcorn are provided to all staff and students just for fun. Total expenses=$282 g. Staff appreciation - a program organized by volunteers, promoting community involvement by providing meals for staff during parent/teacher conference and appreciation days. Total expenses=$368 h. Fifth grade celebration - a program where volunteers plan and execute a graduation party for 5th graders and their families, to celebrate student accomplishments and encourage family involvement in education. Total expenses=$224 i. Spirit wear - a program where clothing items like t-shirts and sweatshirts are printed with the school name and logo and then sold to students, staff and families at cost. This program enhances the social environment at school. Total expenses=$0 j. Birthday bulletin boards - a program where a bulletin board is decorated to display student birthdays in the appropriate month. Total expenses=$67. K. Track and field day treats - a program providing a treat(usually a popsicle) to all students in grades 1st - 4th that participated in their grade level track and field event organized by the physical education teacher. Total expenses=$125. L. Open house treats - a program where refreshments are provided to students and families during fall assessment days and the spring kindergarten open house. Total expense=$51. M. Sunshine fund - a program where greeting cards and gifts are sent to students and their families for specific incidents of death or hospitalization. Total expenses=$15. N. I love to read month - a program celebrating the national recognition that february is i love to read month. Events like reading minute contests, mystery book title games, etc. Are coordinated and executed. Total expenses=$55. O. Friday folders - a program where volunteers are coordinated to fill student folders with weekly communications to go home. Total expenses=$22 p. Box tops - box tops redemption program.
