Causes: Public & Societal Benefit
Mission: The southern vision alliance (sva) is a grassroots intermediary organized to provide infrastructure, capacity-building, coaching and technical assistance to groups and projects led by directly-impacted communities, with a special emphasis on youth-led and youth-centered programs. Sva supports leadership development, organizing, and base-building programs with a pro-democracy agenda that work for social, racial, economic, gender, education, lgbtq and environmental justice in the us south.
Programs: Ignite nc is an educational fellowship program that works with youth ages 18-30 to build a more fair and just future. The ignite nc fellowship program provides organizing skills, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities to help develop young people into community leaders. Ignite nc trained 96 fellows across more than 12 campuses in 2017.
youth organizing institute is a leadership development program working with youth ages 13-20 who are impacted by education equity issues. Students are trained on concrete organizing skills, connect with intergenerational activists, and learn from other young community organizers. Students in the program lead campaigns that support long lasting positive social change. The program held two week-long freedom school sessions in several counties, training over 150 students from north carolina.
sva's southern community member network provides capacity-building, fiscal support, technical assistance, and coaching for community based organizations across the south. In 2017 sva provided regular support to 17 community partners.
